Inexpensive, delightful

Early morning hunger pangs called and so I brought my mom here before she started making breakfast. I've passed by here countless times before but finally giving in and it was made all the better when I found out they do accept non-cash form payment, always a plus.

Amongst the crowd of mostly early morning seniors, the room itself wasn't over the top. It was certainly better than a lot of places but still mundane and spartan.

We ordered quite a few dishes off the order sheet for the two of us - all the dim sum standbys. Portions are plentiful and the price can't be argued. The quality is there too given the prices but I found the taste to be milder on nearly each dish (even the soy sauce poured over the rice rolls were mild), but likely to coincide with the throngs of asian seniors eating here and their milder palettes. Not a problem.

Service is another usual suspect whereby minimal service is provided, but they are quick to respond to callovers.

Seven tasty dishes for $24, can't go wrong here.

We went to this restaurant for dim sum last week. The food quality is better than we expected. We waited for an hour for a table because we didn't make any reservation though we wondered if it would make any difference to reserve a table. Even though they were busy, the waiters were polite and efficient. The tables are crowded as they tried to set as many tables as they can. They advertise $2.75 for most items which is very reasonable for the quality of their food.

I have eaten here a few times and enjoyed it. However the restaurant can get very busy and then service becomes mediocre...try to get someone's attention! The dim sum menu is on the table, no push carts here, although a small menu, the classic Cantonese dim sum is served well. My friend is obsessed with eating chicken wings at a dim sum joint and I usually suffer the indignity of eating sub standard food(since he's my chauffeur, I humor him); however I must admit that the wings are pretty good here. The dumplings do not try to outsize other dim sum places(some places make gigantic dumplings to impress you). Parking is tough, a small lot in the back and Hastings Street to contend with. The overall quality is good enough that I keep coming back. It's better than the Pelican and close to the Happy Valley, plus the prices are decent. This restaurant is a keeper, just be forgiving about the slow service(sometimes).

For a typical Dim Sum place, it grows on you.

For some odd reason, each time I have Dim Sum here, I find myself more and more satisfied with the food. By placing an order, instead of being served from a cart, I find the food hotter, fresher and tastier. I have yet to come across an item I didn't like.

As for the service, It's par for the course. As with most dim sum places you'll need to flag staff to get attention.

Value wise, you find most dishes to cost $2.75 while the special dishes are $3.75 and up. (cheaper than Pelican down the road)

Thumbs up.
