Last night I went to celebrate my 5th aniversary and I was expecting a lot from this place. Unfortunately I left hungry and with my wallet empty. If you just want to have a nice drink, chat with your friends and listen to good music, this is the place. But if you want to have a nice dinner, this is not the place. The food is not good and pricey. I will never come back to this place.
Phoned on a Friday afternoon to make a reservation for that evening - after some 'thinking' (obviously I'd left it a bit late) they said they could get us a table at 6:30 but they had a party booked at it for 8:30. No problem - it was my bad for not realizing they'd book up pretty fast for a Friday night.
From the minute we walked in the door they were SUPER nice to us. Seated us right away, had menus and water to us promptly; did everything at the right time - drink orders, food order; etc. Waiter was knowledgeable about the menu if we had questions.
My friends didn't know abuot the 8:30 'arrangement' so they commented later that they felt a bit rushed at first - personally I love prompt service, so I was delighted!
Food was EXCELLENT. When my risotto arrived my first thought was that the portion was small, but they knew what they were doing - it was perfect; added to that, probably the best risotto I've ever had.
The strange thing was that near dessert, our sevice got much slower. I was a little concerned about having to 'clear out' at 8:30 but figured if they wanted us out, they could make the service snappier! Well, there must have been some cancellations, because we were not hurried at all, and enjoyed a wonderful dessert, and coffees.
(Reading the prior review, I'd have to say that if they want you out at a certain time, then make it clear to them that this is contingent on THEIR service, not your speed of eating!)
Anyway, for us it was a wonderful night. Everyone's food was great; if our waiter had disappeared when we needed him one of the other staff would promptly find him; we were treateded with friendliness and courteousness throughout. Atmosphere was great, too.
And then, even though we left clearly happy with our experience there, they even phoned me the next day to check how it was! Now THAT's service. I'll go back here anytime.
Over the years I have been to Glowbal many times and have found the food to be really quit good. The service has always been snotty, but that can be understandable as the front section becomes more bar like the closer to the weekend you get. OK that said the experience I had last weekend was really beyond the pale. We made a reservation for 7:00 and were told that we would have to vacate the table by 9:00. We agreed and had no problem with this. However we were not seated until 7:30 and our waitress stated that we would still have to leave by 9:00. No apology, just snotty attitude. So we ordered drinks and food and desert. Food arrived at 8:30. At 9:00 we were issued a bill and told to leave. We had ordered desert and it was on the bill. We told our server and she said too bad we were past our deadline; she would not remove it and would not serve it. She added a 17% grat to the bill (nice touch). When I complained to the manger young guy with a mustache, he got surly, so did I and then stated “You Are Banned” from this restaurant. Really the most surreal experience ever. If you want to visit a bar with the pretense of being a restaurant visit this place. But otherwise Ban it from your list.
I went to Glowbal/Afterglow Lounge last night with a fairly large group of friends. Right off the bat, there was confusion with our reservation. The restaurant was attempting to fit three parties of at least 15 people each into their tiny lounge. When our group protested this, as we had made a reservation at least three weeks ago and were told that we would have plenty of room, we were met with arrogance and an above-it-all attitude from the manager. On the plus side, our waitress was wonderful. I felt sorry for her as she had to deal with several put-out customers, and she did it with tact and class. I cannot say the same for the manager. The food was ok - I ordered the satay platter, and I can't say I loved it, but to be fair it was presented well. I just think paying $23 for a few pieces of meat on a stick is a bit outlandish.
