Gigi's offers Italian and Greek cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. Large menu available for take out and delivery.
My boyfriend and I ordered the vegetarian classic pizza with bacon online. We also gave instructions to come to the back door when the pizza arrived. Upon arrival, the delivery man totally disregarded the instructions and came to the front door waking up the tenant in the upstairs loft. Why bother putting a "special instructions" box if it will only be ignored.
Back to the excuse that was supposed to be pizza. First of all, the pizza was completely unpresentable and looked as if a chimpanzee had cut it...or else a blind person with their mouth. All the slices were uneven and different sizes. Secondly, the "bacon" that we ordered was replaced with tasteless ham.
Everybody knows that the cheese makes the pizza. But this pizza, I swear, was made with processed cheese slices. It tasted so bad and artificial. That makes three strikes and I will never call Gigi's Pizza again! Do yourself a favour and order from someone else.
Me mates and I ordered baked pasta, seafood pizza, greek salad and tiger prawns.
The baked pasta was an incredible deal. $10 for that amount of pasta is definitely a solid score of 10/10.
The salad was enough to feed a dozen of rabbits.
All but the service was good.
The delivery driver had an attitude...
Besides that, all was good.
I came back for some much-missed Baked Spaghetti recently and am sad to report that it's no longer as spectacular as it used to be. However, the pastas here are still a great deal at under $10 for a large order - just don't get the Greek dishes which are highly overpriced.
Baked Spaghetti, although not as great as before, still tastes good, but they are getting very sloppy and careless. Onions chopped into the sauce are of various sizes - had some the size of quarters!
Still a good place to go to cure late night hunger pains.
I ordered a pizza tonight for delivery. $24 for a large pepperoni, beef, green pepper and pineapple.
It arrived within half an hour and I didn't have any issues with the delivery person, as other reviewers have. The pizza was piping hot. The crust was crispy, but flopped under the weight of the toppings. I can't say I'd get that topping combination again.
There is plenty of cheese, but it seems too melty and transparent to be real. The more I ate the pizza, the more I kept thinking about fake cheese. It grossed me out and I could only eat 2 pieces.
I would love to hear if other reviewers think that they use fake cheese. For $24, I deserve real cheese! I would never eat a disgusting fake cheese pizza by choice. I won't be ordering from Gigi's again.
On our order tonight was the Halibut bites, Chicken wings, Pizza, Cheesecake and Baklava.
Cheesecake and Pizza tasted ok but nothing you would go to a restaurant for. I could have made a much more impressive Pizza at home in the time it took to order this one and the cheesecake bought in a box at your local supermarket is of the same quality (only you will afford an entire cake for the price of one slice from Gigis). The Chicken wings were poor quality and the Baklava tasted unusual. I'm not sure if it was still good to eat or not. The Halibut bites are literally 'fish fingers' or the equivalent of Chicken nuggets with fish flavor in place of chicken flavor. Something that would be truly impressive if I was 5 and had no idea what went into food or how much better real foods tasted.
All in all this is the sort of meal you would expect to pick up at a service station in the middle of no where on a lunch break in a long road trip. The total cost of our dinner tonight was $65. I would rather have cooked for myself and won't be ordering from Gigis again.
There are only a few options for late nite dining in the city. In the mount pleasant area this is prob the only option for greek/pasta. The food is hit and miss esp for lat nite. More often it is a miss. Fair to assume it isnt the easiest job of making great late nite food. Hence look around the city, there arent any/many options. Too bad Gigi's misses too often.
Looking at the previous reviews I would probably have not eaten here.
But all I can do is speak from my own personal experience.
A work colleague and I called in for a quick lunch..........pricing made it a steal.
To be fair I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
I had the lasagna and my friend cream pasta, both of found it to be tasty and a decent portion.
With a couple of beers under $25. That's value.
Went there for dinner with family, ambience was nice and clean with an old vibe ala Spaghetti Factory.
I had been there once before and the ribs and steaks were superb. This time I brought the parents along but they got too excited and order tons of other stuff but only had 2 half orders of ribs. *sigh* But here goes..
Kalamari & Zucchini : Great! The batter is an even thin layer so they were crunchy but not too oily.
Pizza : We had 1/2 seafood special and 1/2 Everything special. Lots of ingredients, taste good, and yes it's too loaded to support itself. Dough is very good, no oil dripping like other pizza joints.
Ribs : It was a Ribs/Pasta combo, they use the smaller sized baby back ribs and they are soooo good. Flavourful, cooked just perfect with the tips approaching the crunchy side, juicy throughout and nothing is burnt. Better than other places which used bigger meat sections, and the middle would be dry / parts with no flavour / areas being burnt.
I would choose these guys over Applebee's, and Montana's.
The Pasta and Wings were ok, decent portion and taste.
Baked potato & Salads : Like some other reviews here have said.. a bit bare.
I will go back again, and will save my stomach for the Ribs and Zucchini and Kalamari. Plus I'll be trying the steak. Pizza will be on the table if there's a big group, but otherwise sorry, ribs come first.
Oh and the prices is not too bad.. $16 for ribs and pasta combo I believe. Services is good, nothing to complain about. (pissing rain last night and the restaurant had only 4 tables plus some take outs.)
We have dined at Gigi's on numerous occasions and have yet to have a bad experience. The food quality is consistently high and the portion size is adequate. The price is reasonable although I noted on our last visit that the prices had risen from the previous visit. This of course reflects the diminishing purchasing power of the fiat currency and is not a reflection of unfair pricing on the part of Gigi's per se. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is appropriate. Another plus of this restaurant is the fact that the dining room stays open late into the night, long after many other local establishments have closed.
I ordered delivery tonight, the kalamari was good as always, pizza was pizza - it's fine. This was the 2nd time I've ordered their roast lamb, and I told them when I ordered how terrible it was last time but I would try once more. Well, geez, it was 2 bites, literally, 2 bites, I would have done better with souvalaki!!! $18 for that! I will never order from them again.
We ordered pizza from Gigi's and I must say it was a fantastic pizza. The service was slow as molasses but the end result was a good ol' fashioned pizza like I used to have when I was younger.
I'm sorry for the fellow below who got grinded for a tip. That was unfortunate. Hope Gigi's gets their delivery situation ironed out.
I've been eating pizza at Gigis on Broadway since the late 1980's. For many years it had, for me, the best pizza in Vancouver. In recent years, though, the quality of the food has slipped. Often the pizza comes out with a very soggy crust. I always ask that it be done on the well-done side, and when I do that there's no problem.
I remember when I found out how long it takes to cook a pizza (8 to 12 minutes), I was absolutely shocked. You never -- NEVER -- get it in less than 30 minutes, even if you're the only customer there. That's a constant source of frustration. Sometimes I phone the order in from my car, so that it's closer to being ready when I get there.
The serving staff though are consistently great, friendly, and helpful. But I think ownership/management needs an overhaul. The 80's are over. The neighborhood has changed, and the qualities necessary to thrive have changed too. They don't seem to get that.
Service was verrrry slow. I realize there was only 1 server, but only 1 other table was occupied when we came in. The server was very friendly and polite and topped up hot water promptly.
The food was okay, nothing great. I had baked spaghetti with mushrooms. My daughter was not too impressed with the pizza, she would have preferred Pizza Hut. The washroom was in back by the storage room, the whole area was not very clean and there was a bad fish smell. The kitchen was not clean either from what I saw, if I'd seen it sooner we would not have eaten there.
Sorry we will not return here.
My boyfriend and I love going to Gigi's especially late night. The food is always good and the servers are always friendly. Love the garlic bread and the baked lasagne is excellent. The shrimp salad and the spanakopita is great too. Thumbs up!
I went to Gigi's recently with my fiance and had the chicken and spaghetti special (he had pizza). I was impressed by the portion size and also the wonderful flavour of the BBQ chicken. There was so much food that we split it and I still had to take some home. Pizza was great too.
Service is pretty good. The food came quickly and the prices are also reasonable. If you are craving tasty Italian, in my opinion this place delivers the goods.
My boyfriend took me here for dinner because he said that their pizzas were pretty good. We went there at 6pm and the place was empty; we were the only ones there. We had baked lasagna and a small pizza. I liked the lasagna more then the pizza. It had a special sauce that was more sweet then salty like other restaurants which made it taste a bit better. There were two sizes for the pasta, small and large and we figured to order the large since we were going to share. It wasn't very big but was filling none the less. The pizza was decent, but I would've just preferred pizza hut pizza. It wasn't greasy though which was probably the only good part of it all. The service was pretty good as it should have since no one else was there. Not much of an ambiance, it could use a renovation. Not sure if I would return.
The first time I ordered, it was amazing. The next time the pizza arrived cold, fine I'll just warm it in the oven. The third time I ordered it was cold again and they got the drinks wrong. Fine, now I'll call and tell them. I call and the "manager" tells me they'll credit me for my next order. I order the next time and they tell me that they won't give me the credit. I even went down to ask for the manager (also the owner) and explain the situation and how much I had loved their pizza and constantly told people about them. He said it was out of his hands.
They once upon a time were the best local pizza joint, now....don't even bother, they don't give a damn about their customers.
I had ordered food from gigi's on Broadway March 7, around 12 a.m. I have ordered food from them many times, but this time was by far the worst food I have ever gotten from them. I ordered a order of wings, which was fine, and then i ordered SIDE shish kebob. When the food arrived at my house, the total was 40.47, which was a bit high. I paid for the food, and proceeded with getting my meal prepared. I looked over the receipt, and realized that they had charged me for the full meal of the Shish Kebob which was $17.95. I called GiGi's back, and told the employee on the phone my situation, and she put me on hold for a good 5 mins. I hung up, shrugging off the problem, even though I was kindda pissed that they messed up my order.
THEN, I went to go and serve my food onto a plate. I opened the lid to the container that had the shish kebabs in it, and was repulsed by what I saw and smelled. The mushrooms that they added were BLACK, and Burnt, the meat was soo hard to chew, and was OVER seasoned with oregano. the rice smelled old, ALTOGETHER, the meal was nasty!!!!
i called back GiGi's, and asked to speak to the manager. i told him what was wrong with my food, he claimed that they have always prepared their food like that, when I have been ordering from them for over half a year!!! He asked me what I wanted him to do (sarcastically),and pretty much didnt give a rats ass about his poor service, and BAD, BAD chefs. I was soo mad, and still am.
i would have had a better meal if I fried an egg, and made some toast.
A waste of money, this is my last time ordering from there, and I would strongly suggest other to go to a McDonald's drive through before ordering from here!
And the delivery man, is a dick!
I've been a regular patron of Gigi's but after tonight's debacle I will never order from them again. The driver arrived with a malfunctioning debit machine (I had told them I was paying by debit when I ordered). We spent 25 minutes in the hallway of my apartment as he made futile attempts to process the transaction by both debit and credit card. He offered no solution to the problem except to ask that I come out to the curb (in my long johns!) to get a credit card slip. I finally called the restaurant myself in frustration - he hadn't thought to do so - and the manager told me, and I quote: "What do you expect me to do about it? Sometimes the debit machine doesn't work!" He then talked to the driver - on *my* cell phone - and refused to continue the conversation with me when they were done - as it turned out they were putting my VISA payment through on the phone without my knowledge, but I didn't know any of this because they were speaking another language.
By the time the order was processed - about a half hour later, and with a trail of cancelled transaction slips that I'm going to have to reconcile against my bank and credit card statements - the pizza was cold and inedible. When I called back to speak to the manager about it he I could not believe how incredibly rude and insulting he was. As far as he was concerned it was not his problem, it was not his responsibility to do anything about it, and if I didn't like the food I could wait for the driver to come back and pick it up. I am a very pleasant a patient person in situations like this and I have never, ever been treated this way. Eventually I demanded that he reverse the charge on my VISA. He hung up on me.
The driver still hasn't returned, I've been charged over thirty bucks for food I couldn't eat, and I have never in my life been spoken to so rudely in a retail/restaurant context as I was by their manager. They've lost my business permanently.
Went here for the first time on a Friday night for my girlfriend's birthday. When I arrived the waiter asked us if we wanted anything to drink. A few people ordered some cocktails, I ordered a water. He managed to get one drink right, couldn't remember who's drink was who's and mixed one drink up entirely. I didn't get my water 30 minutes later, AFTER the cocktails came. Great...
Then we ordered. Three of us ordered dishes that come with salads. He managed to forget to bring two of them even though he asked us all what kind of dressing we wanted.
The mains came after about 20 minutes--everyone's except mine that is. I politely asked the waiter when my food was coming. He said he'd go check (note that I had to ask, as we did for the salad) since he didn't notice (note that the restaurant was still empty and the only table he was waiting was ours). He came back again and told me that he'd written down my order but forgot to put it in the computer. So I sat there while everyone else was eating with no food. Great.
I will never go here again. Highly unrecommended. The food was actually decent, but pricey. You could do much better and some other hole in the wall joint.
