Sloppy Spaghetti
By epicurious of Burnaby, BC (507 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 5:12pm [Dine in]

I came back for some much-missed Baked Spaghetti recently and am sad to report that it's no longer as spectacular as it used to be. However, the pastas here are still a great deal at under $10 for a large order - just don't get the Greek dishes which are highly overpriced.

Baked Spaghetti, although not as great as before, still tastes good, but they are getting very sloppy and careless. Onions chopped into the sauce are of various sizes - had some the size of quarters!

Still a good place to go to cure late night hunger pains.

I will never order Pizza from this establishment again.Spent 55.dollars Friday night on 2 pizza's and a salad,I received two cold pizza's and one that was basically cooked on top and uncooked underneath.Called to basically complain and 45 minutes later a replacement arrives that was cold and and just as un cooked.I had to start my oven to finish cooking the pizza.I will never again buy pizza from this joke of a restaurant and I advise people to stay away, the food is gross.w.Dinner ruined !!

An option for late nite dining
By LordofFoods of Vancouver (55 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, March 28, 2008 - 1:02pm [Dine in]

There are only a few options for late nite dining in the city. In the mount pleasant area this is prob the only option for greek/pasta. The food is hit and miss esp for lat nite. More often it is a miss. Fair to assume it isnt the easiest job of making great late nite food. Hence look around the city, there arent any/many options. Too bad Gigi's misses too often.

We have dined at Gigi's on numerous occasions and have yet to have a bad experience. The food quality is consistently high and the portion size is adequate. The price is reasonable although I noted on our last visit that the prices had risen from the previous visit. This of course reflects the diminishing purchasing power of the fiat currency and is not a reflection of unfair pricing on the part of Gigi's per se. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is appropriate. Another plus of this restaurant is the fact that the dining room stays open late into the night, long after many other local establishments have closed.

Lunch was Only Okay

Service was verrrry slow. I realize there was only 1 server, but only 1 other table was occupied when we came in. The server was very friendly and polite and topped up hot water promptly.

The food was okay, nothing great. I had baked spaghetti with mushrooms. My daughter was not too impressed with the pizza, she would have preferred Pizza Hut. The washroom was in back by the storage room, the whole area was not very clean and there was a bad fish smell. The kitchen was not clean either from what I saw, if I'd seen it sooner we would not have eaten there.
Sorry we will not return here.

I ordered delivery tonight, the kalamari was good as always, pizza was pizza - it's fine. This was the 2nd time I've ordered their roast lamb, and I told them when I ordered how terrible it was last time but I would try once more. Well, geez, it was 2 bites, literally, 2 bites, I would have done better with souvalaki!!! $18 for that! I will never order from them again.

nothing special

Submitted Tuesday, April 8, 2008 - 12:24am [Dine in]

My boyfriend took me here for dinner because he said that their pizzas were pretty good. We went there at 6pm and the place was empty; we were the only ones there. We had baked lasagna and a small pizza. I liked the lasagna more then the pizza. It had a special sauce that was more sweet then salty like other restaurants which made it taste a bit better. There were two sizes for the pasta, small and large and we figured to order the large since we were going to share. It wasn't very big but was filling none the less. The pizza was decent, but I would've just preferred pizza hut pizza. It wasn't greasy though which was probably the only good part of it all. The service was pretty good as it should have since no one else was there. Not much of an ambiance, it could use a renovation. Not sure if I would return.

I had ordered food from gigi's on Broadway March 7, around 12 a.m. I have ordered food from them many times, but this time was by far the worst food I have ever gotten from them. I ordered a order of wings, which was fine, and then i ordered SIDE shish kebob. When the food arrived at my house, the total was 40.47, which was a bit high. I paid for the food, and proceeded with getting my meal prepared. I looked over the receipt, and realized that they had charged me for the full meal of the Shish Kebob which was $17.95. I called GiGi's back, and told the employee on the phone my situation, and she put me on hold for a good 5 mins. I hung up, shrugging off the problem, even though I was kindda pissed that they messed up my order.

THEN, I went to go and serve my food onto a plate. I opened the lid to the container that had the shish kebabs in it, and was repulsed by what I saw and smelled. The mushrooms that they added were BLACK, and Burnt, the meat was soo hard to chew, and was OVER seasoned with oregano. the rice smelled old, ALTOGETHER, the meal was nasty!!!!

i called back GiGi's, and asked to speak to the manager. i told him what was wrong with my food, he claimed that they have always prepared their food like that, when I have been ordering from them for over half a year!!! He asked me what I wanted him to do (sarcastically),and pretty much didnt give a rats ass about his poor service, and BAD, BAD chefs. I was soo mad, and still am.

i would have had a better meal if I fried an egg, and made some toast.

A waste of money, this is my last time ordering from there, and I would strongly suggest other to go to a McDonald's drive through before ordering from here!

And the delivery man, is a dick!

Went here for the first time on a Friday night for my girlfriend's birthday. When I arrived the waiter asked us if we wanted anything to drink. A few people ordered some cocktails, I ordered a water. He managed to get one drink right, couldn't remember who's drink was who's and mixed one drink up entirely. I didn't get my water 30 minutes later, AFTER the cocktails came. Great...

Then we ordered. Three of us ordered dishes that come with salads. He managed to forget to bring two of them even though he asked us all what kind of dressing we wanted.

The mains came after about 20 minutes--everyone's except mine that is. I politely asked the waiter when my food was coming. He said he'd go check (note that I had to ask, as we did for the salad) since he didn't notice (note that the restaurant was still empty and the only table he was waiting was ours). He came back again and told me that he'd written down my order but forgot to put it in the computer. So I sat there while everyone else was eating with no food. Great.

I will never go here again. Highly unrecommended. The food was actually decent, but pricey. You could do much better and some other hole in the wall joint.

Sloooooow delivery, especially during busy hours, best to wait till after the dinner and bar rushes. These guys use real, unprocessed, grade A cheese here people, that means gooey goodness. Most other food's so-so. Mmmm buffalo wings & luv the jugs of beer for $12. The servers are great, slightly quirky, they're open til like 4AM and they never seem cranky. That's mostly when I'm in, the food may not be gourmet, but between Main and Cambie, on the way home from a late night, I'm totally greatful these guys are still open. Cozy place to wind down the evening.

Fake cheese?
By i ate it of Vancouver (13 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, August 20, 2010 - 6:19pm [Dine in]

I ordered a pizza tonight for delivery. $24 for a large pepperoni, beef, green pepper and pineapple.

It arrived within half an hour and I didn't have any issues with the delivery person, as other reviewers have. The pizza was piping hot. The crust was crispy, but flopped under the weight of the toppings. I can't say I'd get that topping combination again.

There is plenty of cheese, but it seems too melty and transparent to be real. The more I ate the pizza, the more I kept thinking about fake cheese. It grossed me out and I could only eat 2 pieces.

I would love to hear if other reviewers think that they use fake cheese. For $24, I deserve real cheese! I would never eat a disgusting fake cheese pizza by choice. I won't be ordering from Gigi's again.

We ordered pizza from Gigi's and I must say it was a fantastic pizza. The service was slow as molasses but the end result was a good ol' fashioned pizza like I used to have when I was younger.

I'm sorry for the fellow below who got grinded for a tip. That was unfortunate. Hope Gigi's gets their delivery situation ironed out.

Went back here for pizza and kalamari. As usual, the food was very good. Food and ambience here is better than that dark dungeon called Martini's located a few steps over. I have no comments on their Gigi's delivery because I don't use it. Look at the reviewer and see how many and what type of restaurants they review. I

I went to Gigi's recently with my fiance and had the chicken and spaghetti special (he had pizza). I was impressed by the portion size and also the wonderful flavour of the BBQ chicken. There was so much food that we split it and I still had to take some home. Pizza was great too.

Service is pretty good. The food came quickly and the prices are also reasonable. If you are craving tasty Italian, in my opinion this place delivers the goods.

Bland!
By Prettyeasygoing of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Saturday, July 26, 2014 - 11:53pm [Delivery]

I definitely would never eat there again. Bland , and over priced for what you get....I ordered cheese bread, it was just bland mozza on a hot dog bun, dry ribs had no seasoning, and super dry because they were over cooked and it was 7$ for a hot dog bun with not even any flavor? Rip off....Pizza was par at best.... Ended up throwing most of the order out.

It's Food at 3am, what more do you want?

Let's be honest, nobody ever orders from Gigi's for the food. You order Gigi's because you're 9 beers into a bender or 3 hours into a graveyard shift and nothing's open and the idea of a 7-11 hot dog makes you lose your appetite. The fine proprietors of Gigi's are of course aware of this situation and have come up with a clever scheme of delivering nearly anywhere and charging you literally all your money. Bearing this in mind when you finally throw up your hands and order from them at some god-forsaken hour will save you a great deal of frustration.

The food is nothing to write home about: somewhere between the cheese apparently sourced from a chemical factory and dough that's so fermented you might not want to consider driving for the next hour or so, you're in for a greasy experience barely a notch above a frozen pizza. Should you decide to engage in a number of complex wire transfers with your Swiss bank account and spring for the Greek food, you're in for a slightly better experience where passable roast lamb meets un-fuckupable roasted potatoes and tzatziki that would taste good on anything.

The service? Don't expect any. Gigi's is there to serve your 2am drunkhungrys, not give you a smiling experience. Sometimes things go really bad though, like they take and never deliver your order. Should this happen, make sure you call back before half an hour before closing time, or they will refuse to pick up the phone and you'll have to fend for yourself. You'll curse them, rage, and promise to never order from them again...untill it's 2am and you're hungry again.

All in all, if you manage your expectations, Gigis might just save your evening with edible pizza delivered right to your doorstep, which is more than most chains in this city are willing to do.

Probably not what it used to be....

I don't really remember ordering pizza from Gigi's long time ago...maybe in the old days this place was good. I used to order from Trocedero's, Little Billy's, etc both on Nanaimo St. years ago now, but Troc's is still there and might I just add not as good as the old days.
I was craving a large pizza to go....I ordered the Gigi's special with everything except easy on the sauce, extra cheese and pineapple.
I saw only oriental people working there...making pizza...place seems to smell just a bit when I walked in and the waitress had her hair down...but it was too long and that really grosses me out a lot.....
tie your hair up even if your not in the kitchen...still....be a little more representable.
I don't know how it was way before but I know a friend of mine orders from there and she seems to like it.
When I took the pizza home later on that evening....first thought was....where is the pineapple and the other toppings...they were there but it didn't look like it at first....skimpy...cheap cheap cheap.....
Taste was good but...a little more toppings and the place needs to be renovated. Tie your long long hair up. Make the Kitchen noticeable...where people can actually see the cooks and see how clean the place can be.
I hope it is clean in the back and that grosses me out also. But....when craving a pizza, what do you do...right?
Next time, just make my own pizza dough or buy it from a Italian bakery and just make it at home...where you know it's clean and lots of toppings, as much as you want!

Fake Cheese Strikes Again
By nowme of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, October 21, 2011 - 11:22pm [Delivery]

My boyfriend and I ordered the vegetarian classic pizza with bacon online. We also gave instructions to come to the back door when the pizza arrived. Upon arrival, the delivery man totally disregarded the instructions and came to the front door waking up the tenant in the upstairs loft. Why bother putting a "special instructions" box if it will only be ignored.

Back to the excuse that was supposed to be pizza. First of all, the pizza was completely unpresentable and looked as if a chimpanzee had cut it...or else a blind person with their mouth. All the slices were uneven and different sizes. Secondly, the "bacon" that we ordered was replaced with tasteless ham.

Everybody knows that the cheese makes the pizza. But this pizza, I swear, was made with processed cheese slices. It tasted so bad and artificial. That makes three strikes and I will never call Gigi's Pizza again! Do yourself a favour and order from someone else.

Incredible food, lousy service

Me mates and I ordered baked pasta, seafood pizza, greek salad and tiger prawns.
The baked pasta was an incredible deal. $10 for that amount of pasta is definitely a solid score of 10/10.
The salad was enough to feed a dozen of rabbits.

All but the service was good.
The delivery driver had an attitude...

Besides that, all was good.

Not worth the expense

On our order tonight was the Halibut bites, Chicken wings, Pizza, Cheesecake and Baklava.

Cheesecake and Pizza tasted ok but nothing you would go to a restaurant for. I could have made a much more impressive Pizza at home in the time it took to order this one and the cheesecake bought in a box at your local supermarket is of the same quality (only you will afford an entire cake for the price of one slice from Gigis). The Chicken wings were poor quality and the Baklava tasted unusual. I'm not sure if it was still good to eat or not. The Halibut bites are literally 'fish fingers' or the equivalent of Chicken nuggets with fish flavor in place of chicken flavor. Something that would be truly impressive if I was 5 and had no idea what went into food or how much better real foods tasted.

All in all this is the sort of meal you would expect to pick up at a service station in the middle of no where on a lunch break in a long road trip. The total cost of our dinner tonight was $65. I would rather have cooked for myself and won't be ordering from Gigis again.
