Gaia is a small Mediterranean bistro located on West 41st in Kerrisdale.
Having read all the favourable reviews, I decided to try this place, especially since a Hungarian friend of mine had a Hungarian Goulash Soup there the previous week and said it was the best Goulash he had ever had. Unfortunately, the Goulash Soup is no longer on the menu, but they had another soup that was supposed to be somewhat similar (forgot the soup's name), so I ordered that. Wow! That soup was awesome, one of the tastiest soups I have ever had. Everything else that followed was superb -- fresh and delicious, and well presented. The prices were reasonable too. I've got to go back there again soon!
I walked into this restaurant for a "quiet" birthday lunch with my wife and was mildly astonished to discover a dozen of my friends waiting for me. Gaia pulled out all the stops. There were so many things on the menu that looked delightful I had a hard time choosing. I finally decided on something African, with fire-roasted vegetables, eggs, feta, and pita, that I can't pronounce or remember how to spell. Not only its name was a mouthful - so was the dish itself. It was divine, and the finest meal I'd had in a long time. There was only one waitress for the entire restaurant...but she was skilled enough that we began to wonder if she were actually twins. I'm afraid we kept her and the kitchen staff busy, but they didn't seem to mind. The meal came complete with cake and sparkler, which none of my friends claimed responsibility for. I only found out after the fact that it must have been on the house. So, to the fine people at Gaia - thank you! We'll be back.
Having spent a couple of freezing cold hours wandering around Kerrisdale I was pleasantly surprised to happen upon this unassuming restaurant.
Once Turkish apple tea had defrosted my fingers I tucked into a hearty and delicious plate of the Moroccan Style Chicken. I couldn't resist the selection of desserts, so I opted for the pear tart which was phenomenal.
I will definitely be returning to sample all the other gastronomic delights on the menu.
I went with my boyfriend this evening after hearing good things about this place from friends who live nearby.
I took one of the specials of the day : the Lamb Osso Buco which was outstanding, the vegetables and sauce that came with it were delicious and the meat was so tender....
My companion took the other special which was the Chicken Ragu which was very nice as well.
for appetizer we shared the Hummos Plate which was really tasty and generous, came with lots of olive oil, pine nuts, hard boiled egg and grilled pita bread.
for dessert we shared the pear tart which was very good.
Prices are very reasonable and the value is great
We will come back for sure and will recommend to all our friends.
we went on Friday evening for dinner at Gaia after hearing good things about this place from friends.
we got on the house some small salads (mushrooms, Beets& Mint and Cabbage & Tomatoes)
the food was outstanding, we had the Beef& Spinach Kifte which are 3 "Mediterranean meat balls" (nothing like the meat balls you get with spaghetti) served on mashed potatoesa and topping of grilled eggplants.
We also had the chicken shawarma plate which comes with oven baked potatoes and some salads (Hummus, Carrot Salad and Taboule Salad). The salads with no exceptions were absolutely delicious and the shawarma nothing we had before in the lower mainland.
As someone who travels a lot to the Mediterranean area I can say that it brought me the real flavours and spices of this area, everything was fresh and tasted authentically great.
we have 2 small children and they enjoyed both the food and the facility which includes some toys and painting books.
for dessert we tried the home made almond cake which was very nice and we were surprised with the quality of this pastry as we didn’t expect this to be as good as the main courses as this is not a specialized bakery.
the service was very good and attentive, ambience is casual, relaxed and kids friendly
we will definitely come back and recommend it to others!
Few days ago i went with my wife and 2 kids to have a nice dinner in this freezing weather...
First of all I liked the fact they have some toys for the young children to keep them busy.
We started off with the Goulash Soup which was awesome so flavoury and warming
Also had the Hummus plate which was superb, comes with olive oil, pine nuts and hard boiled egg as well excellent pita bread, this really reminded me of the time i lived in the middle east.
for entrees we had the coq au vin accompanied with linguini pasta and vegetables, this was really exceptional, together with that the chicken shawarma plate that is served with Taboule salad, carrot salad and potatoes.
Pear tart and Turkish style tea were an excellent way to finish off this diner.
The value is great ($11-$15 for entrees) and $6 for the soup.
Service was very good and attentive
