A little different

When I walked in, this looked like a regular diner, nothing out of the ordinary. The booths was fun to sit in. But the pac man game was a ride through memory lane.

I figured a burger was something, I really wanted to try. It was really good. It wasn't ridiculously big, like other diners, a salad came with it. The Hanover Cure was good as well. Egg was perfectly cooked with the sauce. The potatoes were delicious as well.

Finally, the portabello fries, OMG!!! It was really good and the sauce was very tasty as well. Yum. yum, yum! Athough a little on the pricey side, for me.

I had wanted to check out Fray since it opened and decided to take my Mom there while she was in town and I'm glad I did! I'm not sure what I was expecting when we arrived but we found a cool, casual spot with board games, a video game console in the front corner and a place that feels like somewhere you'd want to hang out.

After perusing the menu for a bit we decided to each have one of their Saturday special cocktails ($5.50) and get a few dishes to share. We ordered the F-bombs, rosemary potato chips, charcuterie plate, mixed green salad and the banana spring rolls for dessert. Everything was really tasty and fresh and I love their focus on local ingredients and suppliers! In hindsight I do wish we had ordered an entree to share as there were a few that looked delicious, the lamb pasta caught my eye but not until we were deciding on dessert. Our server was great, she was super attentive and very friendly. The best and most unexpected part was when we got the bill only to discover she gave us a 20% discount on our food because she said it took too long. I thought this was above and beyond as the food came out in more than reasonable time as far as I'm concerned. Needless to say we let her know how pleased we were with our tip.

As a side note, I noticed that the menu has changed quite a bit and a couple of the dishes we had are not offered anymore, they also serve brunch now too. I will definitely be back!

Small portions, long waits - expensive

Heard Fray was a great quality place - nice ambiance and nice server, attentive
we each dined for $35 each (bill was $70)
portions are very, very small - the portebello fries were nice, but dont' share not much to go around, the burgers are quite small, served with salad...the worst part .... dessert! nice enough flavour, however, tiny tart - so thin and very, very small, the pound cake was ok flavour - not delicious, mediocre at best, and tiny as well

Will not go back because after dropping $35 each, i am still quite hungry - completely unsatisfied! Is there any good reason to hold back so much on the portion sizes? afterall the burgers are already priced heartily enough to fill your customers bellies.

the beer was well priced and cold...the food took a long time to come out; which is interesting and not at all consistent with a burger joint?

Funky Décor, Mediocre Food

My wife ordered a salad and it was unbalanced – too many greens and not enough extras (i.e. cheese and pomegranate). I ordered two appetizers – hot wings and pork sliders. The wings were small and a bit bland – really in need of the dipping sauce. The pork sliders were also not that tasty – again salvaged by the provided dipping sauce.

The décor of the place is excellent -- funky, retro, and chic. Board games are stacked in one corner of the restaurant begging to be played. A tabletop videogame console greets customers in the waiting area. (Galaga, anyone?). The server was friendly and the food came in a reasonable amount of time. I heard the menu was recently expanded to include more share plates and the prices were lowered. Unfortunately, the food we tried was just mediocre.
