Dim Sum was Hot, but not that tasty or Substantial
By aquadl of Vancouver (39 Reviews)

Went for Dim Sum yesterday.

The place was clean and choices were hot & steamy. The service was decent.

But I do have some concerns, as I have been to many dim sum places before.

(1) the Pork Siu Mai did not have much pork, but lots of doughy filler - tasted bland and weird.
(2) the Har Gow was quite small and the skin was really thick
(3) the Beef Balls had no taste
(4) The Cha Siu Bau did not have much filling and tasted ike nothing
(5) Spring Rolls ... were good, but very small

Even though the cost was $2.75/plate ... given the above comments, the value was not there.

Will I be going back? ... lets just say there are lots of other places that I don't mind paying a bit more and the quality is better.

Mother's Day Dinner

Came here for mother's day dinner w/ a party of 4. We come here occasionally but haven't for a while so this was a nice change.

Food: had the combo w/ 3 dishes, rice, comp quail and soup. really enjoyed this one dish w/ shredded chicken, crispy wonton shell shavings, jellyfish, and sesame seeds. very tasty! everything else was alright...it was the chicken dish that kept calling my name all nite tho.

Service: fairly fast and efficient, nothing more, nor did we expect anything more from a chinese family style restaurant.

Ambiance: nothing special. family oriented so it's loud and crying children are to be expected. considering it was mother's day i was expecting it to be packed and was even afraid we werent going to be able to make reservations, but at any given time during peak hours it was only 50%-75% full.

Overall: i'll come back for a family style dinner. there was 1 round table that was seating 13ppl!! and i'll be sure to order the chicken again!

$2 dim sum
By Maverik of Yaletown, Vancouver (16 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, September 4, 2006 - 2:38pm [Dine in]

I've been seeing their roadside sign '$2 dim sum lunch special', I finally decided to try out this Labor Day morning.

The sign is permanently outside, so I made sure they're offered on weekends and holidays. Yes they are. Everyday betwen 10 and 3, all (most, actually) dim sum plates are $2, and lunch dishes are $5.

The service was average for Chinese restaurants, but I liked the table with real clean table cloth, which is not often the case for budget Chinese restaurants.

As I filled out the order on order form, I noticed the wording 'All dim sum are $2 each, except large are $3 each'. Beside the items, I only saw sizes written in Chinese only, so I checked with the waitress. She said anything with 'special' beside it, it's $3, and all others (small, medium, and large) are $2. I'm glad I read some Chinese! I ordered shrimp dumpling, chive dumpling, squid steamed with black beans, and seafood siu mai. The seafood siu mai happened to be the best of all, generous chuncks of shrimps. The other dishes were....okay for $2.

Then time to leave, I noticed she charged me a pot of tea for 50 cents...not a big deal, but I don't like when budget Chinese restaurants do that to me. It was after noon when I left, and the place was packed.

I'll probably be back if I'm in the mood for budget dimsum and don't want to drive long.

Pretty Bad Service

So, I just came back from this restaurant... the food was really delicious although the chicken could be improved. The chicken was dry and very boney, not much meat. Also the service was really slow, took them 30 mins to deliver our first dish... when another table which came in AFTER we did.. go their meals already... So as it progressed, the waiters ignored us, when we asked for a knife for our grandfather. The workers didn't seem very cheerful, always seeming upset. Half way into our dinner service, that table I talked about earlier, were done their dinner service, and received desserts really soon. At the end of ours.. it took them another 30 mins to bring out the desserts, also they had nothing left which had any interest for us, talk about having items in stock for ALL customers. Overall I never want to come back to this restraunt.. they didn't deserve the tip my aunt payed. I'm disappointed with this restaurant.

you guys, this restaurant is just like urban buffet , their main interest is on tourists, so don't complain about their food, they are just trying to buy the cheapest materials to feed up those tourists. They have bond with tours and they don't really care about the taste of their food. I lived next to this restaurant, and the thing I know about this restaurant is that it's not a clean place, the menu is bad bad bad, but the desert is pretty good, I like the mango pudding they made..

fourseas restarurant = great dessert + fine food

Alright, I have not dine in this restaurant for over 1 year now but i hope this experiece i have had has still not changed one bit. First off, the dessert IMO is the one of the best desserts i have ever eaten. It is free from a 3 dish combo or any dish combo. This means you order 3 dishes from the menu, get unlimited rice, a big bowl of their soup of the day, and dessert depending on # of people. Now, the dessert they serve is either mango pudding or the steamed white egg (you know what i mean if you can read chinese :D). Now holy smokes, the steamed white egg dessert is truly an inspiration to mankind. The egg white with the right amount of sugar and milk is steamed in a small cylinder. Let me tell you, you have to try that out. It is piping hot with a hint of ginger which really kicks it up a notch. Now dishes I would recommend are the pepper pig stomach tip stir fry and their special fourseas tofu. You will thank me after trying these dishes, but i have had times where they did not entirely cook the dishes the right way so watch out.

The service is alright, with ur casual ordering and yes sir no sir.

The dishes itself take no time at all but the steam egg white dessert may take u some time, but it is well worth it.

The look of the restaurant will not give u an amazing feeling, with it's side mirrors and such but that should not take away ur appetite.

Overall, if your a handyman who wants to try some good chinese cusine with the family, try it...
