The Flying Wedge Pizza Co. is an anomaly in the pizza industry. Unique and unexpected tastes & toppings make the Flying Wedge the place to go for a great pizza.
I went to Flying Wege on Denman yesterday for a quick bite in between some speed shopping. I was debating whether to go to Flying Wedge, or Nat's New York Pizzeria across the street. Remembering having a slice of good hawaiian months before (someone else's treat), I headed towards Flying Wedge. They had about 6 flavors to choose from and I ordered the "Tropical pig". They heated it up and charged me a little under $5 for 1 slice!! I thought, "Are you freakin' serious?? For one slice?" but decided it was my bad for not looking at the prices first. It wasn't as good as I remembered last time. The sauce wasn't evenly distributed and there was more dough than topping. After eating my slice, I remembered about the great dollar pizza place Uno Numero. Could've had 3 slices for the price of this one.
There were about 3-4 staff working...well, chatting in the back. The table I sat at was pretty filthy. As I put my bag down on the chair across from me, it dragged down some sticky sauce from the table along with it. Then I wondered when the last time they cleaned these tables.
A perk is the small flat screen tv's playing DVD's for your enjoyment as you dine. Yesterday's movie was the Shark Tale. In the 15 minutes I spent here, I never got passed the main menu screen of the DVD because they never pressed 'play'. Remembered the same case the last time I came here too.
I think I'd rather eat at my fav. pizza place as I didn't find the pizza here all that different.
I was fortunate to have received gift cards for two pizzas recently. I tried the standard pepperoni pizza and the Sicilian pizza which were fantastic. I think that Flying Wedge is more for gourmet pizzas. I enjoyed the taste but the price is high given the cost of making a pizza. The location is great if you're looking to get a quick (expensive) bite to eat after hitting English Bay.
I agree with the reviewer below. I was hankering after a slice of pizza and couldn't be bothered walking down the length of denman to my usual ; une numero pizza pizzeria. I walked into the flying wedge instead, after reading about their famous pizza.
I ended up spending almost 6 dollars on a slice of pesto and cheese pizza slice- crazy!!
Who would pay that much?? i had no idea it was THAST expensive.
the pizza slice itself was okay - slightly cardboardy texture. not the freshest.
the staff were not the most attentive either. Basically for all its 100% organic ingredients its not what its cracked up to be. Go anywhere else instead.
