If you are looking for decor and ambiance, Flowers Cafe will not rank well with you. But if you can handle dining near some 'colourful' characters, and don't mind the somewhat dilapidated surroundings, you will be treated to a delicious burger and fries that couldn't come at a better price.
I heard about Flowers in a newspaper article in which the author searched out the city's best burger value in response to the creation of the $30+ burger's in town (Feenies I think?). This intrigued me enough to try it out.
The price of a double (yes double) bacon cheeseburger made from a homemade patty, with homecut french fries, is only $5 (recently upped from $4.50!), taxes included.
The burger patty is very good, in my opinion much tastier than the bland variety they serve at Vera's. They keep it simple with toppings - a small amount of lettuce, tomato, and mayo - if you're looking for tons of toppings you won't find it here. However, the simplicity seems to work well for the burger.
Perhaps the best part is their home cut fries, freshly made to perfect crispness. These are as good as any in the city.
The staff/owners of Flowers are also friendly and quick to take your order.
Conclusion - if you can handle the surroundings, or just want takeout, Flowers is excellent, if not the best value burger in town (that I've found). There have been a number of write-ups about Save On Meats burger but Flowers actually has them beat - better burger and I think $1.50 cheaper.
i've been having the same burger for the longest time. the owner, flower, actually owned the little cafe in the back on save on meats for a handful of years before opening this one.
the menu has been pretty much the same since the save on days. her burgers have always been amazing.
If you dont mind the area and dont have bladder problems ( avoid washrooms) it's quite the find for a really good burger for the price (biggest one with mushroom bacon and cheese for $5.50 i think)
