I must have caught them on a good day, because my experience was pretty good - unlike the other reviewers.
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm in the half-empty restaurant and had a good pick of seats.
I ordered the Full House, which is the regular breakfast fare sans the meat. The bf ordered the special - breakfast enchilada and an order of their "Huge" blueberry pancakes.
Pancakes were good - not as light and fluffy as some I've had before, but still good. The enchilada was reported as yummy tasting, but needed more sauce. My breakfast was okay. The hashbrown potatoes were delicious as was the marbled rye, but my eggs were cooked in a pool of oil. I wasn't expecting awesome, but all the grease kind of turned off from finishing it. At least the grease was clear and not brown from using old oil.
The meal was an okay deal at $30 for 3 dishes and 2 coffees. The Full House breakfast was worth it at $6 for a heaping portion.
Service was really really good. I wasn't expecting based on some reviews from here. I didn't catch our server's name, but she really was excellent.
I'd return next time, but maybe not before trying some other options on the drive first.
I have been to Fets many times over the years and it is still my favorite of all the breakfast places on the Drive. I especially love the bacon and the multigrain toast they serve, and they even have marble rye if you like that too. Their hashbrown potatoes are fantastic, cooked with lots of onions just the way I like them. They also do a lot of different kinds of pancakes, and I love trying out the specials (such as the orange / cinnamon pancakes which I'd love for them to make permanent on the menu).
I've only had one bad experience there with a server, many years ago, which the manager overheard and dealt with immediately. Otherwise, the service has been pretty good, even when they are busy. I try to go at times that are not so busy, because the tables are quite close and I like to have a bit more personal space.
Personally, I don't care for the atmosphere, as the murals and decor feel a bit dated, but they play lots of great music and if they keep the decor, it will only get kitchier and kitchier, which will be fun again in the future.
I definitely go for the food, which never disappoints.
fets is a cute place. I love there burgers! The patio is great on a sunny day with a delicious burger and nice ice cold beer. The service could be better and it could stop potential customers from coming again. They just neeed to smile and enjoy what they are doing. They have great food to offer so that should make it easier for them. A place you have to try for yourself!
I'd been craving a really good burger for awhile. In fact, I started making mental plans around 72 hours before I ordered my burger at Fets. "I am gonna order a burger at Fets...and it's going to be awsome!" That's the thought that kept running through my mind.
I ordered the classic burger. I was all i could have asked for. De-freakin-licious! Honestly I don't know why one would go anywhere else on the drive for a burger.
The service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Perfecto. We were also treated to a nice converstaion with the lovely owner.
I am already looking forward to my next visit. I'm thinking JAMBALAYA. Hmmmm...
stumbled upon the only Olympic party on the drive during the opening cerimonies. WHAT A BLAST! the place was packed we got the last table and settled down to watch. I ordered the halibut and chips, it was panfried perfectly with a herb butter, i got fries and salad with it. It was outrageous! My sidekick had a smoked salmon pizza, yummy. can't wait to go bck for olympic hockey. GO CANADA GO!!!!
I've been to Fets on numerous occasions, and have always had great service, and awesome food. I'd have to say the cobb salad is by far , the best I've ever tasted, along with the jambalaya, which has the perfect spice to it. All of the food I've ever had here has quite fair portions for the price you pay. Also, the servers are always on top of it, and a fair bit of them are quite attractive. To be honest, I have no idea how anybody in their right mind could post an ill review of this place.
I've live on Commercial Drive for many years. Let's be honest, Fets is not gourmet cuisine. If you want a good burger they certainly deliver.
It's kind of a funny looking spot. There are lots of pretty cheesy murals of classic rock n'roll icons. I've had breakfast there as well, It was OK.
Burgers and beers. Do it. That's it.
Eat dem Burgers.
The server never approached us to take our orders, but manager who was extremely rude and unpleasant yelled at us for not ordering food! He seemed atigated and took it on the customers. Never seen anything like this before.
The concept of customer service and common decency are non-existent in this place.
Moreover, the food was extremely bland, and badly cooked (either burnt or undercooked).
An experience unparalleled in its horrific nature during my 9 years in Vancouver!
Hmm Fets. Well, the paintings on the walls were really neat but the tables were a little too close together. The food was decent - I had the eggs benny which was good but the portion was a bit small.. (more hashbrowns needed!) and my partner had the chorizo hash, which was decent. But we had a dark haired server that had a total attitude. Very sour. A downright total bitch. Someone who should definitely not be serving! This unfortunately made our experience very disappointing and we will not be returning.
My daughter recently took me out for Sunday Brunch, we decided on Fets. Rather than having my usual burger, I opted for a Spinach and Feta Omelette. Bad choice! The omelette was flatter than a pancake; it basically took up one side of the platter it arrived on. The spinach leaves were laid out inside of the omelette, a bit of feta cheese sprinkled throughout. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't omelette's supposed to be light and fluffy, instead of flat and brown (on the bottom side, not the presentation side). It was definitely overcooked. To make matters worse, we waited for over 1/2 hour for this flavourless meal to arrive. The toast was saturated with butter .... yuck!!! This used to be a favourite spot, but not anymore! Never going back!
I went with some friends for the world cup soccer final. I was very very impressed with their organization for this special event. There was a line of people all the way up the block before they even opened their doors. A guy came out and took names of everyone and party size. He made sure you were actually standing in line before allocating a seat for you. Then he arranged all the seats and tables and grouped up smaller parties so that all seats were filled. He did this very fairly.
Beyond that, the omlette breakfast I ordered was outstanding. I was very happy with it. The server however was missing in action. Granted, they had to process an entire restaurant of people as soon as the doors opened, but it took 1.5 hours for me to actually get my food! Lucky I was there for 3 hours and didn't mind too much. But there was no customer turn over in that 3 hours (everyone was there for the game), so you'd expect to get some decent service after the primary rush. Nope. I saw the server twice in the entire 3 hours I was there.
Anyway, I have to respect them for how they handled the event, they didn't pressure people to leave or even to order more (not like I could have if I wanted to), and the food was quite good. I'll definitely go back to try them on a regular day.
