i been to fatburger before so i thought i write a review
i like since they came up here to canada that it gave a retro look and feel of a burger joint
i feel it is overpriced a little bit but i'd pay to have my burger freshly made with all the topping than save 2 dollars and go to mcdonalds
and they have daily specials so its not too bad
FAT TIPS!!!! hahaha
Girlfriend K and I came here 2 nights ago for a burger fix. I expected a good burger from all the hype about this place - both Vancouver and Las Vegas. Going in with such high expectations did ruin it a bit for me.
My burger was dry and bland. If it weren't for the condiments, there would be like eating foam. They did, however, offer seasoning salt at the table, but seasoning on the grill really tastes best. The fries were awesome! Nice and crispy to the last fry. Big points there. I also thought the price was pretty expensive for a basic burger - a combo for $10.
The service wasn't bad, but the girl taking our order had no personality what so ever. Her tone and body language screams "i hate this Job, I hate being here, I hate you". The manager was courteous and greeted people every chance he got.
I gave the ambiance a 4 not only because I love the whole diner feel, but also I felt they made a big effort making sure the eating area was clean - and it showed. The place was almost spotless.
Overall, I was not impressed by the burger here - it lacked flavour and moistness. I'd head next door to Vera's anyday.
The place has a good rep, and I heard about it from some friends, but man, was I disappointed. I had the boring burger, and my wife had the flaccid chili dog. It was just okay. Go to the Pantry if you want a mediocre burger or hotdog, and save some money. Better yet, drive to Rodeo Burger in Surrey and get a truly outstanding meal.
I had a crispy chicken burger w/cheese & fries and a drink; hubby had double burger w/fries & drink. Rang in at almost $30!!! I still can't get over the outrageous pricing for run-of-the-mill, "fast" (pretty slow actually!) food.
Chicken burger was mediocre at best. If I hadn't added the cheese on and asked for a side of BBQ sauce to give it some flavor, it would have been far worse. As many other reviewers have said, stick to Wendy's or McD's for equal quality fare for less than half the price. NEVER again will I waste my $$$ there. Could have had a decent sit down dinner in an actual restaurant for close to the same price.
When I think of Fatburger, I think of a juicy and flavorful beef patty but instead it was just a plain burger, nothing special. There was barely any taste. It seems like I can just buy a patty from Superstore and make one myself. There was no special sauce used. Or maybe it did but I tasted nothing but blandness. I was disappointed, I thought it'll be something incredible but it was just an expensive piece of burger.
One word to describe my Original Cheddar/Bacon Burger: FANTASTIC! I'm not big on burgers to begin with, but after a New Year's Eve hangover, this burger hit the spot. It was excellent! Lots of flavor and the fries that came along with it were heaven. My friend ordered the original fatburger with cheese and she went gaga over it. The portion was just right, and it was worth every penny. In terms of the service, it was okay....this seemed more like a serve yourself type place, so the only thing the servers did was deliver the food to us. Ambiance? Perfect, considering the type of place it was. Overall, this is a burger that must be tasted. People that are hardcore burger maniacs will probably be more critical, but for people like me, this was a great tasting meal!
The thing about this place is that it is forced out of a cookie cutter image of what a burger place should be and than distorted by visions of profit and business motifs. The people who work there are lest than enthusiastic, most of the time, and they are probably all minimum wage, lost in their lives. They should hire more students, who have to flip burgers to make a living, for now..
but. on the actual food. Its horrible, and over priced. The actual burger had no taste, and the fries were alright, but fries are not hard to do well.
Dont go here, boycott it.
The burgers are expensive and not that great.
The fries are not good - McDonalds are better...face it!
Also, I had left my credit card at the cashier and left the restaurant and a staff member managed to charge $100, $80 and $50 on it. When I realized that I lost my card, I checked my online statement and the charges were made there. I went to Fatburger, spoke with the manager - Alan H., and he knew EXACTLY where my card was. He returned it but when asked if he knew what had happened he had no idea and when asked if he would follow up with me, he said that he thought there was no need and all I had to do was contact my credit card company. While that is true, but as a customer, I desire some sort of follow-up or apology. None was given. Also, as manager, at the day's end wouldn't you notice these LARGE, EVEN credit card transactions???
Advice: Go to another place. Burgers suck, prices are high, management is poor at best!
Food:
Terrible. It's not a mistake so many people say "Wendy's is better." We actually did a side-by-side taste test and Wendy's IS better. Which makes me terribly sad for anyone who still eats at fatburger.
Portions are too small. Food is flavourless. Milkshakes are pretty good, but then, so are Red Robin's milkshakes...
Service:
Decent. Not great. But they don't drop water on you and they try not to throw the food at you, so I consider that a good day. Kudos for even being there, guys.
Ambiance:
Well. If you're into that kind of thing, it's okay. But I'm not, so I try not to venture in. We tried FB two years ago and hoped for better, but the taste test idea was what did it in.
Sorry FatBurger, you're just not good.
Vera's half a block down the road is definitely better. This place is supposed to have big and juicy hamburger patties but I only found a small dry one. Perhaps my standards were too high. Everyone who asked me about this, I told them it's comparable to McDonald's.
I'm a big fan of Vera's so I wanted to try the competition just down the block. BAD idea! Burger tasted like it came from Wendy's. It was small and ordinary. Save your money and go to the fast food burger joints. If you want a real burger, stick with Vera's or Hamburger Mary's. Hell, come to my house and I could make you a bigger, more flavourful tasting burger. I was so disappointed with the size (it is called FAT isn't it?) that I sent them an email. What did I get? No response. Didn't surprise me because based on their burgers, they obviously don't value the customer's feedback. Only thing this place has on Vera's is the decor.
I eat lunch at the Denman FB every once in a while (I work just around the corner) and I have never had a bad dining experience there. Burgers are always fresh, hot, good toppings. I have never waited more than 8 minutes for my order. Fries are very good, always hot and crispy. Place is clean, always a fine selection of current newspapers to read. I think on the whole Veras makes a slightly better burger, but the ambience at Veras is non existant, and the service is awful. All in all, Fat Burger is a solid choice.
Have been there 3 or 4 times but likely will never return. Food is less than mediocre, and yet the prices are still up there.
The last time my girlfriend and I went, she had a chicken burger and she said the bun tasted stale, when she flipped it over, there were small blue dots of mould on the bottom. Their burgers are slightly better than McDonalds or Wendy's but at 3 times the price.
If you want a good burger, go a couple blocks west on Denman to Vera's...still pricy but much more justifiable!
I've heard a lot about Fatburger and came to try it with my friend. The decor was very cute.
I ordered the original Fatburger and onion rings. The burger tasted like any other burger. Nothing special about it. Onion rings were quite small and greasy.
The cashier looked miserable and didn't even greet with a smile. She had a scowl on her face the whole time and when she brought the order over to us she simply dropped it on the table, snatched our number, and stalked off without eye contact or a "Here you go." She went back to the kitchen to chat with her friends.
The burger and onion rings were nothing special. I could have had the same thing at another burger joint for half the price and twice the flavour.
The restaurant itself was very neat and cute. It had booths and was designed in a diner style.
It may have been the customer service that turned me off but including the average food, I definitely won't be coming back.
Went there expecting a really good burger. The slogan 'the last great burger stand' makes a pretty bold promise that just didnt measure up. Prices were steep but not unreasonable, and I liked how they brought the food to you instead of vera's style where you have to listen for your name in a noisy restaurant. I got onion rings and the portion was pathetic. My companion got fries and was given a much larger portion... consistency of side sizes was way off.
Burger itself was just ok. tasted fresh but the beef was lacking something. Service was good and the cashier was very helpful, but I won't be running back
For the price of over 5 bucks for a hamburger, I was expecting a huge fat buger but was dissapointed by the portion size and for $3.79 a lot bigger and more onion rings then the skimpy portion that came. The onion rings were tasty but the portion small and the burger reminded me a bit like Wendy's Classic but Wendy's is far better value so I will stick to Wendy's or even Tripple O's for that matter. The restaurant should be called Skimpyburger.
Once upon a time, I believed there was no such thing as a bad burger. Until recently, it seemed true. But visits to both here and Vera's have prooved me wrong.
The food here is obviously the least important part of the business. It looks like a nice homage to old diners. Set up as a fast food joint though. But it took 15 minutes to get my burger. There were no other orders in. I considered leaving but since you have to pay first, I felt trapped.
The burger is dry, bland and flavourless.
It isn't that difficult to make a nice burger. Whoever manages these places should look at fixing them. I'm sure people will start to realise how bad the food is here, and what a rip off it is.
I went to Fatburger because of its reputation, but instead end up with lots of disappointment. First of all, I didn't expect to pay that much for a McDonald style burger, I mean with that price I can go to a full service restaurant. Second, there's nothing special about that burger patty, exept like an aging, dried up, unattractive piece of patty which should be placed in an old age home. In my humble opinion, it's one expensive McDonald burger. Vera's Burger down the road is definitely a better choice.
Finally tried the Fatburger joint on Denman last night after coming back from the beach. I ordered the Babyfat burger and my husband, the BigFat deal. My husband really enjoyed his burger, he didn't find it greasy at all, and it was fresh, juicy and just like a home-cooked burger made to order. I ordered the Babyfat burger, a smaller version of a regular-sized burger and a chocolate milkshake. The girl at the front counter had forgotten to ring up my milkshake the first time round. I usually like my milkshakes thick and creamy, but the milkshake started getting runny right away. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience.
I agree with most of the reviews on Fatburger. The hype's all there but not the food. I had my first and last Fatburger awhile ago and it was not worth the price for what you got. Vera's a better place for burgers...and locally owned too!!!! For that price I paid at FB...I would have had 2 combo meals at Wendy's instead (even Wendy's burgers are better).
