crepes, panini, soups
I found myself walking down Commercial Drive in the rain (per usual) and looking for somewhere to alleviate my heightening hunger.
Cafe Deux Soleils was monster busy, and I didn't want to spend 15+ bucks at Wazubees. After walking for roughly ten minutes and getting soaked from the rain, I was ready to just give in to pizza and go home early, but then I noticed the Euro Bakery Cafe (Commercial Drive, between Grant & Kitchener).
I walked in out of the rain to a small, warm, empty cafe, and normally the absence of people would discourage me from eating there, but the place looked so nice and inviting, and that was good enough for me to give it a chance (that and it's very fair prices).
I ordered the basic two egg breakfast for 5 bucks and a regular latte for 2.75, then sat down to write this review. My latte was ready first, and compared to most cafe's, it wasn't much to look at, but thankfully looks don't mean a thing because that was one heck of a solid latte. I continued to write, and before I knew it, my food was right in front of me and I was blown away! Here I was expecting a shabby greasy spoon style meal, then this gorgeous spread shows up, the presentation was fantastic, but could something that nice looking really be as good to the mouth as it was the eyes? Short answer is YES.
The eggs were cooked to perfection, and similar to many restaurants they weren't pre-salted, but they were so tasty that they didn't even need salt (but I made sure to add a pinch just for good measure). The hash-browns were also very good, and you could tell that they were masterfully hand made (I asked for extra potatoes in place of meat because of my vegetarian handicap). The final touch was toast, and it wasn't just any old toast, it was high-end multigrain bread, two huge slices which left me very content after finishing my meal.
In conclusion, the Euro Bakery Cafe is excellent! Well prices, high-quality healthy ingredients, an extensive menu, and sure to please anyone. They also have free wireless internet with which they have youtube videos playing on a computer near the till, so if you get bored, you can just zone out to flashing pictures. My entire meal was under 10 dollars (including tip), and in my opinion, this place is the best breakfast/brunch cafe that I have been to in the 'couve, so go give it a try.
