I totally agree with previous reviewer regarding the owners being unfriendly. From my observation, they appeared to be almost ornery, to both guests and staff alike. But if one can overlook their gruff attitude and abrasiveness, the experience is fun. The ambiance reminds me of Italy. The food was good but the brunch prices reflects its quantity. Brunch was approx $10 and for Kits you can expect the quantity to reflect as such. I did appreciate the 2 young servers today who tried their best to be friendly despite the lineups and customers standing around waiting for a table. I was at the front for a good 8 minutes and the 2 owners noticed me but totally ignored, despite multiple eye contact. Instead they decided to play with their grand kid. I would return for sure, but maybe on days when I know those 2 owners won't be there cuz sadly they put a damper on this place.
I'm not sure what to make of this place. We were torn between the much busier Smoking Dog across the street, and this place. We should have gone to Smoking Dog. I really enjoyed the friendly staff who were working there, but the food was just not good. The pizza, advertised as "european thin crust" was really more like tortilla-crust than the typical thin-but-stiff European-style pizzas I have had before. But the taste was OK, dh and I rated it a 6 out of a possible 10. The meatball was very good and very big for the price, but when I asked them to make me a spaghetti with bolognese sauce to go with it they refused. The pasta I ended up ordering (carbonara) was not good at all, oily and bland, and worst of all it had been sitting around for a long time and was crusty on the edges (yuk!). The special, an eggplant parmesan, was extremely mediocre. We will not be back, too bad because we really enjoyed the waitstaff there.
I've lived up the street since before this place opened so have seen all the Staff come and go over the years.
Some really outstanding people have worked here but it doesn't make any difference-the coldness and borderline hostility radiated by the Ownership toward customers and Staff cast a pall of gloom over the place-and it is dark and gloomy in there most of the time anyway.
Personally I get something to go and then leave ASAP and don't even do that much anymore why would I bother?
There are more welcoming places all over the neighbourhood and the food here is nothing special-much of it seems to comes from mixes and frozen goods bought from places like Sysco-almost nothing is homemade.
The Hot Chocolate in particular is detestable, an offence against one's taste buds.
I went to this restaurant to eat. The food was so-so; not totally authentically Italian. The owners seem mean and cheap. They don't treat their staff well in front of the guests. There is a blond lady there who seems a bit rude to the staff behind the counter. Most of the waiters/waitresses keep leaving all the time. High turnover. The food is okay and the service is okay too, but overall... it isn't outstanding.
