Ensemble Tap offers modern interpretations of classic favourites like slow-cooked ribs, fish and chips, sirloin burgers, pulled pork, and steak and fries. Classic techniques add depth and dimension to much-loved Canadian comfort food.
After being thoroughly dissapointed dining at Ensemble, I decided to give a go at Tap, aimed at upscale pub grub.
The ambiance is really strange and odd. It's quite bleak..the layout is very strange, TVs are mounted too high and overall its just plain odd. If you're inside you'll see a lot of people look in, and then walk by. It needs a bit of a facelift, some colour, some plants...something...if you go you'll understand.
The beer selection is ok...it's definitely not all its hyped up to be. I mean I do like the fact that they're supporting Canadian breweries, but really? Howe Sound and Big Rock? Why not approach Whistler Brewing or Storm, i.e. a brewery doing some different. Oh well.
I ordered the full rack of ribs to share. They were beautifully cooked. The sauce...well...it was BBQ sauce...signature? well you could sign John Doe, but the meat was very nicely cooked and unlike Ensemble the portion size was generous and provided good value.
Sides: A bit of an afterthought. WAY too much butter within the cornbread batter, and the slaw was nice and sharp and acidic but very one note. Even some chopped parsley would have brought it way up.
Looking around the rest of the plates looked nice coming out and everyone seemed to enjoy their food.
It didn't blow me away but I think a certain owner is trying to improve and moving in the right direction

Had a great night out with some friends at Dale's new restaurant. They do a beer focused menu with some delicious pub fare, super impressed! The wings were incredible, better then Pnom Penh and the burger was definitely the best I've had in the city!! We watched the Canucks game there and the entire room was on fire with hockey fans. Will definitely be back for another game! Server was super cute and had great beer recommendations, first time that I had a "Saison" and fell in love with that Belgian style. Casual AND independent, go figure there is someone doing what the chain maniacs are doing but better! Keep up the great work and welcome to the neighbourhood!
Could have been better - but, then again, it's a sports bar. Had the fafael vegie sandwich with fries, and the popped prawns. The sandwich was fairly tasteless - no flavour that I could detect - but filling (not in good way - who wants to get full on something so bland); on the other hand, the fries were pretty good and the prawns were excellent.
Service was attentive. But, full marks, for all the HD TVs, no doubt a sports watching paradise.
