We dropped on by for game 3 of the Canucks, expecting to be mostly underwhelming. A pleasant surprise upon entering - a definite local pub feel. Not pretentious, a lot of the patrons seem to know each other and the staff working there, with quite the buzz going around. Even the decor is of that typical pub charm, though I do agree that the televisions are somewhat poorly placed, and a 2-3 television sets could be replaced with bigger units. Our table was right next to a load beam in line with the closest tv, though with a little maneuvering we worked within the confines.
The menu is varied with lots of choices, nothing fancy. The team platter was a mixture of finger foods, with the wings being my favourite, with a lovely, crispy coating, though they were plain, which is a big draw for most. The calamari rings were a nice mellow yellow and tender. The Caesar salad was large, easily suitable as a meal. The only miss I felt was the poutine, which used shredded cheese instead, and was buried under a mound of fries and gravy. I was pleasantly surprised to know that they mix their Tom Collins with lime juice instead, so I'll definitely be ordering those as much as I can when I'm here. Another plus, they freeze the glasses which many pubs don't do.
Service is good, with the waitresses tromping back and forth, and busy topping up beverages and clearing plates as necessary. While we didn't get a checkup with our food our waitress hit everything else on the head, making sure she kept our whistles wet. The staff even did door prizes in between periods - a nice "neighbourly" touch.
Not the greatest, but far from terrible. Thoroughly enjoyable, we'll definitely make future appearances.
The Elephant Walk Pub's strongest suit is most definitely its wait staff. The small group that I was with on a relatively busy Sunday night was well tended to not only by our own waitress but by the whole staff. Drinks were free-flowing and there were never empty glasses or pitchers sitting on our table. A great sign of a wait staff that is alert and partying attention as well as a hard working bar staff.
Thanks so much, will be back for the playoffs.
My friends and I have made this our go to bar. They have wings for $4/pound (12 wings) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. I'm pretty sure every time I've gone they've had pitchers of Kokanee on special for $11.95 as well.
The overall feel of the bar is of a very low-key, friendly one. Nobody here is pretentious and everybody is there to have a good time. The atmosphere during the Canada-Russia game during the Olympics was unforgettable as well. They have a number of large TVs but don't have HD programming as of now, hopefully this is something they'll move towards. There's a pay to play pool table and on Wednesday nights they have Music Bingo, which is definitely something you'll have to try.
I came here last week for a dragonboat fundraiser. I was very much disappointed with the food - however I do have to give them props for value. Cost of fundraiser ticket was a mere $12 and with that, you get a burger (chicken or beef) and a glass of wine or beer. With that said, I didn't expect high quality anything.
My beef burger came with a nice big patty. I'm not sure whether these patties were from frozen or made fresh, but it tasted more like a bland meatloaf with bread crumbs as its number one filler ingredient.
The main disappointment was the wings. Luckily, it was on special for Wednesday, otherwise, I can't see anyone paying the $7.50 for an order. The wings were obviously pre-deep fried and the flavouring drenched afterwards. I love wings, but I couldn't even finish less than half of the two orders. They just didn't taste fresh.
The service was something else to talk about. Even with a full house of people supporting the dragonboat teams, our server was still very calm and social. Through the hectic crowd, she still managed to smile and provide excellent service.
Went here to catch the game and the layout is not very good. The TV's seem small and old versus the newer pubs/restaurants and the layout of the place does not allow a few tables to view a TV. I would think the view lines would be most important for pubs as this is why most people go. The food was pretty good, tried the yam fries and souvaliki. Seems like the menu has a lot to chose from. Service was quick and friendly. Value is average for a pub. Would probably not return here to watch a game.
This is a solid pub and it's a little nicer than you'd expect on a drive by. Very friendly staff and good specials make this place a great low-key option for the next Canuck game.
The food is traditional pub fare done right. Don't leave valuables in your car around this place.
The cold beer and wine shop is convenient.
I like this place because they're usually very accomodating for large groups. I recently went here with a group of 20 and we all sat on the patio. Server did a good job considering we were all pretty rowdy. I had the clubhouse with yam fries and it was decent, but I wasn't a fan of the pink sauce they put in the sandwich. My one peeve is that you always have to squish through a gauntlet of chairs to get through to the stairs that lead to the bathrooms.
Also, music bingo wednesdays is the best thing ever. LOVE IT. Not sure if they still have this? If not, they should revive it.
Nice place to come grab a beer (or four) and relax. Good stuff on tap. Not spectacular food, but still decent. Place isn't chic or cool or contemporary or anything, just looks like a regular pub. Waitresses are super nice, especially when trying to settle large group tabs (thank ou thank you thank you). But my one complaint is that the tables are sometimes a little sticky.
