My new favourite sushi place

I love sushi. When I saw that a new sushi place was opening right across the street I was skeptical since other places I've tried in my neighbourhood turned out to be big disappointments. When I tried Dunbar Sushi out I was blown away. Yes, you can get better sushi in this city, but you'll be paying way more than here. This is the best value I've found considering price/quality. It is my new go-to spot for regular great sushi. Here's what got me hooked on this place:

1) You get A LOT of fish with the nigiri and on the rolls, much more than your average place. It's very fresh and great quality.

2) The owners/employees genuinely care that you have a good experience. Not only do you get the traditional hello/bye that you would at a good sushi place, but everyone comes off as very sincere AND both times I went I was given free appetizers or half rolls (4 piece) and asked my thoughts (I went tonight and my wife and I shared 2 salads, 2 soups and 1 roll for free). Granted, the free appies are probably because they just opened, but still, the genuine caring is great.

3) The sushi chef works hard to make sure you get a really nice presentation. At places of this price range I typically get nigiri that is no more than a medium piece of fish on some hard packed rice. Here the rice is packed much better, a "medium" density, the fish piece is medium-large, and some pieces have a nice garnish on top, a small bit of wasabi underneath, or both. The caring I mentioned in #2 above is reflected in the food.

There is a great variety of non-sushi on the menu as well. I haven't tried any yet so I can't comment there.
My only negative comment is that the tea isn't to my liking. I prefer the puffed rice green tea that is typically served at sushi places but I don't know enough to say whether the kind of tea they serve is appropriate or not. It's not something I'd drink at home, but it's not bad.

Great sushi spot in Kits!

You can't get better than this in our neighbourhood! We've tried every sushi joint in the Kits/Dunbar area and you can't beat the price and freshness of Dunbar Sushi. While I was waiting for our order I watched the Chef work his magic and you can tell he takes pride in what he does. The sushi was placed neatly in the containers and the rolls were rolled with love and care. The Agedashi Tofu was delicious, the fish fresh and the sushi rice well seasoned (something sadly missing in most sushi rice). We'll be back!

Best sushi, bad value

This sushi resaurant has the most delicious sushi I have ever tasted. Even in Japan, the sushi is not as good as the ones her in Dumbar Sushi. Service is also incredible, with the same japanese hospitality you get when you go to a restaurant in Japan. The food and service is all really good, but the value is pretty bad. I only go there once in a while, because their food is very expensive and they have stinky tables (which is common in sushi restaurants) because the wipe the tables with the same cloth and the soy sauce can be sour which makes the table stink. Other than that, epic food so keep it u! :]
