Small takeout-style, donair place on Commercial drive with very limited seating.
My husband was after some donair for dinner and though he asked for another place further down the drive (closer to the skytrain, can't remember the name) I felt the sizes were a bit small and lacking on the fillings so i decided to try Donair Town.
I was interested to see the large menu board with various filling options as well as plates and mixed donairs (want chicken AND beef?) I decided to go with the Lebanese option for our chicken donairs. Choice of white or brown pita pocket was nice, hot sauce looked like it was made with ground chillies and was a paste more than a sauce, which seemed more authentic to me. All the usual suspects were there, hummus, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onionm tabouleh, and sauces (garlic, tzatziki). The chicken itself could've done with a little more seasoning but was nice and moist. The vegies all looked nice and fresh and the place itself looked pretty clean. No atmosphere but our plan was to eat at Trout Lake so that wasn't an issue.
Service was friendly and they do have interac which is helpful (some places on The Drive do not). All up for 2 donairs and 1 can of pop the bill came to around $13. Pretty good for a tasty and filling meal. I would definitely go there again and perhaps try one of their plates or a mixed donair.
I happened to be driving by this place and had a sudden craving for a donair so I decided to try it. Upon entering, I see the sign on the outside for their special donair for $2.99. Why not?
The guy behind the counter was by himself and everytime he handled the cash, he washed his hands and put on gloves to make the next order so that was a really good sign. I am amazed at how many takeout places don't wash their hands properly, this is really important to me especially with flu season upon us.
I ordered the chicken special donair with all the toppings. I must admit, it was pretty tasty. It was a little greasy though, especially at the end. The wrapper it came in had a about 2 or 3 tablespoons of it collected in the bottom. But better there than in my stomach, I guess.
Anyways, I would definitely hit this place again. Especially for the price, $2.99 is ridiculously cheap.
