Displace Hashery is a beach Bar in Kitsilano, featuring a fun and inventive fusion menu, lunch and dinner and an amazing draft beer, bottled beer, and cocktail selection. Displace has 125 seat inside and 80 seat south west facing patio.
I was in the area with a group friends and we were looking for a place to get some beers and food. At first the service was a bit slow. I noticed the server talking a lot and didn't seem to be in a hurry to get our drinks and take our order. We decided to share a few starters ordering the pork belly sliders, spring rolls and fish tacos. All three were amazing. We were expecting regular bar food and would have been fine with it but the plates were unique, fresh and extremely delicious. It was a pleasant surprise. I'm looking forward to coming back and tasting more of the menu.
I have been to Displace a few times and the food is absolutely AMAZING. They have continued to improve on their menu since their opening. They have changed the calamari and it is absolutely delicious now. The last time I was there we had the 3 course holiday special menu and were not disappointed. Our server was Kali and she was great. She was attentive and on top of everything. Our water was always filled, dirty dishes were cleared right away, and she was very friendly and efficient. I would and do recommend Displace to people that want to have great food for a good price in a comfortable place.
This is a must if your in the Kit's area, food is delicious and the prices are great. try the calamari and the organic beef burger! For $6 our picky son gets the mac and cheese and if mom and dad don't finish it off there would be plenty of left overs. I really enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and the kareokee on friday nights. Definitely check it out! It's refreshing to find a restaurant that actually makes good quality food, at very reasonable prices. I will be going back and bringing friends.
Few of us went down to Displace for the Stanley Cup finals Game 1 last night and we loved it! It was jammed packed and had a great atmosphere!
We've been here when it was Nevermind and the difference is night and day. It's so much brighter, the food was excellent and very affordable, and the service was outstanding.
We will definitely be back for Game 2!
Girlfriend and I went here on the weekend. It has big open windows and beautiful decks.
The atmosphere was fantastic.
The relaxed and comfortable atmosphere was only outdone by the food.
We had the veggie poutine, buffalo burger, crab burger, and some fish tacos.
xcellent.
Our server Tim was intelligent and attentive.
He brought extra water before we asked and made a point of being around when we needed anything.
They even tested some food out on us, pineapple wrapped in bacon. Delicious.
One of the owners, Mo, came by and introduced himself. Talked with us for a bit and made us feel welcome. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I had been to nevermind a few times. A dark and dingy place. This is well lit and comfortable. I loved it.
I've heard of gluten-free beer, but man, I could really use some of that new "glutton"-free beer that the previous reviewer spoke of! ;-)
"What a great experience! When I walked in I felt like I was back in Australia at a pub by the beach. The waiter was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was great, felt like I was on vacation, great chill music, not pretentious just relaxed and positive vibes.
The prices were great and the food was delicious, I'd recommend the crab cake burger and the poutine! We also tried a glutton free beer which was really different, very refreshing and enjoyable...we've been looking for glutton free beer at every beer store since then!
Will make sure I have more time to spend there next time, great place to spend an evening with friends."

A group of us attended Displace last Friday for the Canuck's game. We should have realized something was amiss when there were plenty of tables still available at 5:30 p.m.
It had been years since I was in Nevermind (the pub before Displace) and it appears that nothing has really changed. It is still a dump. The "pictures" on the wall were pieces of paper--not even posters, the women's washroom smelt like an outhouse, and the service was non-existent.
Our server was slow and lacked knowledge of the menu. When asked about specific beers they might have, her response was that "she didn't know, but they had lots and lots of bottled beer." The menu was deceiving. I thought I had ordered an appetizer of calamari, but what I received was a bowl of onions and peppers and a 1/4 cup of calamari hidden below. A friend ordered an avocado salad, but received a green salad with a little avocado in it. The funniest meal was the sliders with the extra condiments. The condiments, for $6, included Kraft cheese slices cut up into 1" squares and Thousand Island Dressing. I'm not sure if they were trying to be ironic in the preparation of the food or were just cheap, but I wouldn't eat there again.
Another telling sign of how bad this place is is when the game was over, the place emptied out...that is, until their computer system crashed. Then our slow server appeared to be the only server capable of using a hand held calculator while the rest of the servers just kept telling her that other tables wanted to settle their tab. We eventually guesstimated our bill and, hopefully, didn't leave a tip, then left.
Quite frankly, I think Michael Buble, Mike Reno, et al., should be embarrassed to have their names associated with such an unprofessionally run, dump of an establishment. I would not recommend this place to anyone!
