Dhaliwal has one side that is a delicious Indian restaurant and the other is a traditional Indian sweets shop.
So far, everything I've eaten from both the restaurant and the sweets shop have been absolutely delicious. They do not make their Indian food overly spicey (I'm sure you could ask for it), and thus it is very friendly to the general public. It is not a completely traditional Indian restaurant either, as they do have some European drinks and whatnot.
I love the samosa - 3 for $1.00 and they are really tasty fillings. These are my favourite samosa I've had so far, of every samosa I've ever tried.
I also love the butter chicken - if you order take out, it is $9.99 (plus tax) but it is quite huge and has lots of chicken breast meat in it. It is enough to serve 3-4 people (or maybe 2 really big hungry guys) and tastes great on rice. Or if you prefer, naan. Mmm, naan!
The sweets shop - if you have never tried Indian sweets before, I suggest you try the one that looks like a rectangular caramel/tan coloured bar. It is usually at the very top left hand corner of the display case that is on the right side of the cash register. The texture is quite unique, and it tastes a little bit like condensed milk and other things. Soooo good! There are some other interesting ones as well, that seem to have coconut in them, and some very interesting spices (similar to those found in Chai).
All in all, come to this restaurant! You will not be disappointed and you will come back for more.
This restaurant was quite wide where 1/3 of the store was a bakery and the other 1/3 was an ice cream shop. That last 1/3 in the center was for dining.
There was no wait and I wonder how they manage to see people go in and out because the restaurant was sectioned off by walls.
In just a few minutes, our server came and handed us the menu and filled our glasses up.
We ordered 3 dishes and one had to be the butter chicken.
Surprisingly, the butter chicken serving did not manage to meet our expectation. The bowl contained mostly sauce and not much chicken but it was made well as compared to the other dishes we ordered Another surprising thing is that our appetizer contained more chicken then the butter chicken. I thought the Naan garlic bread needed more taste and texture but the portions were big.
The service was good as he made a few visits to see how everything was going.
I would go here again, not for their dining food, but maybe check out their bakery or their ice cream.
Good food, not much of a wait. Good service, friendly staff. Nice comfortable family restaurant style interior, with some nice paintings and pieces from India that look nice. Would go again, if I still lived in the area, recommended. =] I haven't gotten anything here that I haven't really liked. When you're done eating dinner you can pop over to the sweets shop next door, where you will find interesting Indian pastries at a good price from friendly, smiling employees. Customer service is great, here. They're friendly and make sure you are comfortable and enjoying your time without being suffocating.
I ordered butter chicken, chilli chicken, 2 naan breads and rice for pick up and the food was great! it came to $26 for everything, and was more than enough for 2 people with lots of chicken breast meat. WAY BETTER than saffron in burnaby which I live near, I wil definately be going back to dhaliwal again
