Coffee shop on Commercial Drive and 2nd Avenue
I've been purchasing coffee from Continental since 1993.
When I moved to Calgary in 1994 I had to order it and they were always so quick to mail it to me.
I've been in Montreal now since 2000 and I still order it. It's my "house blend" and I love it.
Can't find a better coffee anywhere.
I count myself very lucky to live so close to such a fantastic coffee shop! I agree with most people below - their mocha's are to die for, iced or hot, but their regular champagne blend coffee is also fantastic! smooth and creamy, never bitter. The line isn't exactly letting you RUN through, but what do you expect... they only have one espresso machine! I agree that their baked goods don't have a huge range.. however you should try the almond pastry with the powdered sugar. What? You don't see it? That's because they sell out before noon. Get there early in the day and try one - they're amazing. The staff are a delight, always looking out for the customers, and so super friendly. All in all, I don't like going to any other coffee shop, if I can avoid it.
Love the concept--chocolate whipped cream topping a hot chocolate--now we just need to drop in a piece of dark chocolate truffle to melt inside for even greater choco enhancement. That aside, I found I am actually interested in their refreshing iced chai much more so than the hot chocolate.
Great friendly service and a fairly busy cafe--difficult at times to find any seating, but then again, I usually like it to-go.
Everytime I come to Continential, there is always a line up. Since then I stop coming because of the lack of time I leave myself to buy a hot chocolate. I come in everytime I off to work, just to make life better for me. I love this place.
The food: It's great! I love their hot chocolate. The whipping they put on the drink itself is a idea everyone should have. I was hooked when I first was given my first HC.
The Service: Sometimes slow, when there is one coffee-maker personnel, but other times there is three or four behind the counter and other times the line disappears with a blink of your eye.
The Ambiance: Wonerful. Small little nook to read your newspaper while you sip you HC or coffee. The picture on the wall give it a warm feeling and the lighting isn't too noisy. they updated the outer part of the store. It more modern.
I like Continental. It's great and I've even introduced it to more people! They love it and I recommend it to all!
My other favorite coffee spot on the Drive (the other being Calabria). Serves excellent coffee and superlative hot chocalate. The food is ok, but for me the real delight is in the coffee. Quite small and cozy.
I personally loved this place 12 years ago. It has changed alot.
Depending on who makes what....I love their mochas and whipped cream.
My cousin who complains about everything agreed that their mochas are pretty good.
Its family owned and has been there forever. I dont mind the line ups. Its too bad they dont add more snacks. Great service and advice on coffee contractions.
I have tried espresso and latté’s around this fair city for many years and I always come back to ‘The Continental’, no matter how far I stray. At $2.75 for the 'best latté in town', it is certainly worth the trip.
Nestled at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Commercial Drive, the scenery is as interesting as it is diverse. Commercial drive is already a thriving multicultural street and one can spend many an hour 'people watching' or just soaking up the vibe and catching up on the latest news. If you are really lucky you will catch the odd soccer game or hockey game, which is especially exciting during “World Cup”, “Champions Cup” or “Olympic Games”. On Sunday mornings the ‘scooter brigade’ used to show up for the weekly ‘outings’.
It’s quite possible to sit down at a table with a complete stranger and strike up a conversation. The people are just genuine and company easy going.
I haven't tried the chocolate but will have to try it now. I'm not a real coffee drinker (ie. only drink iced cofees, frappaccino's, etc) but they've got awesome cafe mocha (with the chocolate whip cream of course). And their prices are awesome; you can get a double for about $3.60.
If you're ever on Commercial, you need to drop by!
they're not in a hurry to serve anyone here, so even though you might be 2nd in line and there are 2 staff behind the counter, expect to wait 10 min to get your order taken. The capp is a respectable 6/10 in my opinion, but they carry on like they are doing you a favour by serving you! I so wanted this place to be good, and I wish it was. I would go there all the time. But I consistently had the same experience. sorry guys.
Our Coffee Ring has been buying Continental's fine coffee in bulk for many years and we are very happy with the great taste, great prices, superb freshness and top service. We phone our order in - usually around 25 pounds of various types of beans every other month - and within a week of talking with the friendly staff, our order arrives in the post office. I can tell by the aroma that it is in. I did visit the cafe in Vancouver several years ago to meet the staff and found them most obliging. The place was clean, charming and very busy.
I am very happy to reccommend Continental Coffee and their staff as a resource for great coffee and service.
Found this place accidentally - walking down commercial I suddenly had an overwhelming urge to check my email...
Found the coffee to be great and very affordable (double latte' for under 3 bucks?!?!). Asked for some directions and information the barrista/cashier while my latte was being made and - not only was he happy to help - he had great information and suggestions (not to mention a smile on his face and a great attitude:)
And last but not least - when I asked where I could connect to the 'net he said, "do you have wireless? we have service here".
I asked if I needed to pay and he said, "you can if you want - but it's free".
Wow, what a great place!
This cafe is seriously the WORST cafe in Vancouver. Did your fat-o-meter not click in??? The coffee is atrociously horrible - do you know how many times they re-steam milk there for a latte? Health regulations should close this place down! Huge staff turnover! I once timed an espresso there - SIX SECOND SHOT… the owner obviously hasn’t a clue about coffee. This place is not worth a visit. The service sucks and it mainly caters to yuppie folks that don’t care if their coffee is served from a toilet as long as it looks trendy from the outside. I am quite stunned that anyone would there. Awful awful awful. Save your money and hit up Terra Breads on 4th… or better yet bake the scones yourself with margarine and brew some President Choice coffee and it will still be better than the crap they serve here.
I've been here a few times. There's always a bit of a lineup since it's a pretty small place. They do the organic / fair trade thing, which is always a bonus. Soy or Rice milk can be substituted for I think 25 cents; cheaper than Starbucks. I had a double soy latte and my girlfriend had a soy chai latte - both were excellent. There's really nothing in the way of baked goods that look appetizing... Some hippie cookies and biscotti. Doesn't matter, I just go for the cheap latte's and mochas (also cheap and amazing - they make their own whipped cream, a nice touch).
