Went for a coffee and dessert on sunday afternoon. Coffee was good but ordered Tiramisu and it was not good at all. It was frozen and was told by the server to let it warm up on the table for about 5 mins. Waited for 15mins and was still frozen inside. Took it back and she warmed it up in the microwave so now the was not good at all. They would not refund my money. What a waste of $5. Will go for coffe but don't order the dessert.. Better to go to Milano coffee which is just around the corner.
I have been a few times - usually late night, after dinner at one of the many great restaurants in Gastown. And I must say the Barista (at least the guy who works there on Sat night; I think he owns the place or is a part-owner) is simply great.
I asked for a coffee and got to chatting - he explained the process (clearly the guy knows his coffee) of making that perfect cup of coffee. And he made me a great cup of coffee. Actually he made me two - the first didn't turn out right (to his critical eye, though it looked perfect to me), so he tossed it out; and made me another. Great service, great coffee.
Recommend it highly.
Visited this location around 2:00pm on May 6th. I ordered a small hot chocolate, sat down and did some research on my laptop. Got up to ask for the bathroom key and was told it was for customers only. I explained I just bought a hot chocolate and had been sitting there in plain site for 45min or so.
After using the restroom, the same employee chased me to the door calling me a liar, that I was not a customer. I then got the attention of the girl who took my order who then had a talk with her to tell her otherwise.
What business acts this way to its customers?
Coffeebar located in beautiful Gastown and the exterior and interior of the actual place is very pretty. I love the logo and the bold, minimalistic signage. The place is well let and the music is always very good. The price of the drinks and pastries is similar to the pricing of Starbucks drinks and pastries, so it doesn't really come as a surprise when you're looking for what to order off the menu. I usually have the tiramisu. The first time, it was ridiculously creamy and lovely but the second time, the pastries' edges were hard. Neither did it look very presentable-- it looked like it had been sitting unrefrigerated all day (I came in the afternoon.) The hot chocolate and earl gray is absolutely superb. They really could use work on their latte art-- there's never really a comprehensible leaf on the drinks they've served me and my sisters' drinks. Also, I've had the same cashier serve me twice and she never smiles. It would be such a great addition to the whole experience if she at least looked happy to be in such a great coffee shop.
