Chronic Tacos is an American franchise restaurant originating in California specializing in tacos with fresh salsa.
This place just opened recently, and I am so excited to have a Mexican place in Kits that is this good at this price where I don't have to have to tip a waitress. I know, I'm cheap, but I like to just order,. eat, and not sit around too long. I just hope they keep up the quality of this food and these portions for as long as I go here. I don't know if will stay this fresh and tasty, but I sure hope so because I'm hard on the restaurants in Kits. I highly recommend this place as so far so good!
We recently tried this place for the first time with some gift cards we had purchased from a charity silent auction. When walking in this place the seating area is pretty basic...though your not there for the pretty ambiance. We ordered a grilled soft shrimp that had a good helping of shrimp, 2 deep fried fish and chicken tacos. You then get to add whatever toppings you would like. They have different names for the topping combos. The guys working there were helpful and friendly. After learning what the topping combos were we will be ordering like chronic taco pros next time! The tacos were yummy and filling. Another person who was there ordering remarked to us if this is your first time here, it won't be your last...I know he is right!
I mainly go to the Chronic Tacos on West 4th & Burrard, but have also had lunch at the (very different) Gastown location at Water & Carrall which is also very good (and DineHere incorrectly lists as "no table service").
The food here is fast, cheap and reliable, and the young staff really takes care of you (especially their numerous regulars). Discount days are Mondays (burritos) and Tuesdays (tacos).
Not much to the tables or decor, but it's still a cool, casual place to hang out for 15 or 30 min while you fill up.
TV monitors used to show great surfing videos but lately have trended towards more generic sports stuff, which is OK. (I guess many places have lost their default Canucks broadcasts.)
My favourite dishes here are probably the grilled shrimp and grilled fish tacos - fresh and delicious.
I recommend avoiding the nachos, which are pretty boring.
They are licensed, too, so if you want to wash down the food with some Mexican beer, you can add that to the fun.
Also a great location for pre- or post-movie at 5th Avenue Cinemas around the corner and up the block.
