Small hole-in-wall cafe serves tasty Indian dishes of curry, butter chicken, tikka, etc
best butter chicken in town. Better than Tandoori King or the others I've been. Creamy sauce and tender chicken. The room is simple and nothing much, the service adequate for a small diner-ish place. But the butter chicken is GOOD! I am going again tomorrow cannot wait. Inexpensive so great for lunch. Closes at 7 pm so ok for dinner pick up as well.
You could easily walk past this place, never know that they serve some pretty good indian food. A first glance, it doesnt look like an indian restaurant... looks like a little greasy spoon/cafe. And its in a low profile location, so it's customers are mostly local residents and office workers.
The menu is fairly small.... chicken curry, lamb curry, butter chicken, chicken tikka, samosas.... most served as combos, with basmati rice, a piece of roti and small green salad.
The salad is unremarkable, but the butter chicken and the curries are quite good, especially for the price.
easy to walk by, saw the reviews and was craving butter chicken. The value is great as the portions are really large. tasted amazing, except the quality of the chicken left a little to be desired. would have been better with just chicken breast, not the entire chicken. would recommend it for lunch, but wouldn't recommend anything with Chicken. The vegetarian dishes are probably the best way to go, and would be delicious. ambiance is really low budget, but as I took it to go it didn't really matter
After hearing about this place from a few people, I finally got the chance to eat there yesterday! It looks like a regular cafe, but surprise - tasty Indian food can be had for about the same price as McDonald crap! For about eight bucks, you can get a plate of butter chicken with rice, naan, and a salad with mystery dressing. It's a pretty hefty portion, too! The samosas are good - 2 meat ones for $1.50, or two vegetarian ones for a buck. They also have curried lamb, chicken tikka, and other Indian dishes. I notice some Greek dishes on the menu as well - souvlaki, gyros, etc. I'll have to give that a go next time....if I can keep from ordering the butter chicken again!
I noticed that the place was fairly busy over lunch hour - there are only about ten small tables inside, and one outside. There is a TV for your viewing pleasure as well.
Never judge a book by its cover!
You will get a good, fresh curry here. Nice thick sauce, plenty of meat and very tasty.
I have tried many curry houses in Vancouver, just about all have disappointed at best, dehli belly at worst (check out reviews for Indian Fusion and Mumbai Massala - excellent curry at the former, good curry at the latter), but this wee place is just the ticket for those lunch-time curry cravings. The lamb curry is particularly good.
Check it out.
