Chipotle Mexican Grill is a casual, quick serve spot offering fresh and tasty burritos, tacos and more.
This popular American chain finally made its way down to the West Coast of Canada. If you’re familiar with the chain, or with Mucho Burrito, then you’re aware of their assembly-line production of the burritos/tacos/etc. Much like Subway, you get to choose your meats, veggies, and sauces that are safely tucked behind a sneeze guard. Thankfully, the line moves pretty fast as they have a staff per “station”.
Carnita Burrito - $8.95 (4/7)
There was nothing special about this, and nothing about it that sets it apart from the others, however, they didn’t grill press it, which made it extremely difficult to eat as everything was falling apart and it ended up being super soggy.
Chipotle also does not have sizes, so if you want a burrito, but aren’t that hungry, you’re better off going elsewhere, or getting something else from this establishment. Though the burritos are massive, we don’t know if we can justify paying $9 for it again.
I've been here 4 times, twice to eat in. The last time I went was Saturday Oct 31,2015. Had a chicken burrito, friend had sofritas burrito. The two staff making the food were not friendly and didn't seem happy to be there. The cashier was also not a pleasant individual. It wasn't busy (maybe 1/2 the seating was taken) and the lineup was only about 4-5 people long. Usually I've gone in and the place is packed, lineup to the door or out the door.
I'm not a Chipotle burrito lover, I'd rather Steamrollers or Red Burrito, plus I find the price at Chipotle to be high and the servings too big.
My main beef this time was the absolute FILTH of the dining area. The garbage: overflowing. The floor, tables, even the SEATS had garbage strewn everywhere.
A staff member sat next to us (in uniform) to eat with his friend who placed a knapsack on the floor. A bottle in the knapsack started leaking to the point that my friend told him there was a huge puddle under it. I mean huge=a 3 ft wide puddle. The friend of the staff member said to him, 'maybe u better get that cleaned up' or something and the staff said his shift was over anyway.
When we left, the puddle was still there.
One staff person did a quick garbage sweep of some tables while we were there but overall, the restaurant was still a pig sty.
Management: happy employees do a better job and treat customers with kindness. Hire more staff or re-organize them. The place is a dump.
I tried this place for lunch today - got a take out of tacos with spicy chicken. Yum! I loved it. Couldn't finish it and was able to share with somebody at work - who also loved it! They don't have a lot of restaurant competition on this block of Howe Street and the place is packed. There was a short line up before they even opened today. Fast, fresh and delicious. I will definitley go back.
The food is good, wish I could order here often but my bank account and intelligence won't let me... I am trying really hard to understand why it costs so much. I know the ingredients are far better than anywhere else but I still can't justify it. I guess now we know why they have it in that specific location...
I suggest Topanga on West 4th sometime.
When you think of Authentic Mexican cuisine, you don't think of burritos, fajitas and tacos....you hope for something more authentically Mexican. Chipotle, however, is a glorified typical Mexican food joint, that serves exactly the basics, we in North America are accustom to - nothing really "authentic" about it.
HOWEVER, just because it's not what I was hoping for, the basics they do serve are tasty, excellent and filling. My favorite would have to be the beef barbacoa, which is succulent and juicy in flavor. That, combined with the common hard shell corn tortilla shell is fantastic. Today, I had the chipotle chicken on soft flour tortillas, which were equally delicious and pretty much scarfed the meal down. Portions are quite large, but since the ingredients are so fresh and delicious, you don't feel like you've overeaten.
In terms of the service, the employees behind the buffet bar are quite friendly, quick and efficient, which makes this a really great fast food place to visit.
Ambiance is nice, clean and modern.
Value is pretty standard at $8.95 per dish. Truly worth it, and the outcome is a satisfied stomach. Although, they may not serve "authentic" Mexican cuisine, what they've got going on is an excellent flavour that makes them the new popular restaurant on the block!
