Mexican food specializing in authentic Tacos.
This is truly a Mexican restaurant setting without the price of an air ticket. The one-man show starts at the door with the greeter, owner, waiter, cook and dishwasher. The sparse furnishings, colour TV playing Mexican soaps, large Mexican flag, reproduction photos of the Mexican Revolution, odd pots/crocks and Mexican Souvenirs (made in China) lined the walls.
To further the authentic experience, while in the middle of our meal, in clamor three tow truck drivers dress in black, Motorcycle boots and the two larger fellows had their “colour patches” on their leather jackets. OK…ah.. where is Clint and the “Fist Full of Dollars” when they’re needed the most?
We spoke in hush tones until the smaller gentleman (5’10” and about 190lbs) broke the ice by proclaiming that this is a “good eats restaurant”, similar to the ones in Mexico. I couldn’t remember whether his experiences in Mexico were for pleasure or a forced holiday. He did say he was there for several years. And he’s here at the Chilo's Taqueria to widen his companion’s dinning palates. One companion wanted to eat his tacos with a knife and fork. Who am I to surmise that grease could cause slippage on an lead pipe?
Lucky for me, I agreed with him that the food was “down home good!”
Our table ordered individual tacos filled with prawns, beef flank steak, tongue, spicy pork and vegetables (about 16 or 17 pieces). Also had the house soup to share, sodas and a rice drink. This fed the three of us adequately. All this for $35.00 including T&T. The price paid, sans tacos was worth the admission and theater.
