Cheesecake Etc. has been a Vancouver landmark since 1979. Open seven nights a week between 7:00 PM and 1:00 AM. It has a cozy interior and a small but focused menu with cheesecakes, teas, and coffees.
The cheesecake is good, not too many variety. The texture is especially soft, different from traditional cheesecake. There were only three waitresses, none of them paying too much attention to the customers. It was difficult trying to get their attention when asking for the bill. In summary, there are better cheesecake places.
Beware singletons, if you thought it was safe to walk into Cheesecake Etc. for just a slice of benign cheesecake, you thought wrong. I went with just a friend and it was Awkward Central. You're better off to somewhere family friendly like True Confections.
I can BUY cheesecake like their's at the grocery store. It's ridiculous how unattentive the servers are as well.
Cheesecake Etc. has been in busy quite a while and it is usually busy.
Over the years, I've seen a slow, but small decrease in the texture and taste of their cheesecakes. Sometimes they can be a bit cold because they've been in the freezer for too long and they haven't fully defrosted or sometimes they can be too hard or not soft enough. Also, the size of the cheesecake has decreased as well.
In addition, for six dollars a slice and probably a very low electricity bill, you would think they have a bigger profit margin to actually renovate the place. The booths are made from wood they feel like they are going to break and it has no padding.
The service could be faster if the barista and the waiter/waitress were not always in the back chit-chatting it up.
I still like the Cheesecake but sometimes it makes you rethink the worthiness for paying six dollars for a cheesecake where service is slow, consistancy is low, price is high and ambiance is decent.
Coming here in the evening, this seems to be a good, quiet place at that time to just relax, or even study and read. Nice, interesting decor and the sole server seemed genial enough. I had the regular plain cheesecake, with strawberry sauce. They really, really loaded on the sauce - my slice was practically swimming in it all! It made the bottom crust soggy, and also overtook the tangy flavor. My sister got mocha cheesecake without sauce, which was quite a bit tastier. For the price, I don't think the portion you get is worth it - it's a fair size, but the bill for 2 slices was about $14. For that price, I could just get myself a whole cheesecake, and not drown it in red syrupy goop.
This place, if you think about it, is actually very simply organized.
Just turn off the lights, light up some candles, and there's your Cheesecake Etc., always buzzing with cheesecake lovers, from 7pm til 1 am.
I actually like it. Very clever, in fact!
My boyfriend and I always go here pretty much after a dinner out (if we have extra time anyways). The cheesecake is consistently tasty, and in good proportion. Although it could be quite pricey (everything is pricey nowadays!), the value is still pretty worth it.
However, it sucks how there's not much of a selection of cheesecakes or et cetera, for a company that calls itself 'Cheesecake Etc.' The menu is very short and sweet, but I'd love to see more in there. It kind of gets boring to see the same dessert menu all the time.
The service is very quick, except for this one occasion where the server seemed to have forgotten about us. Otherwise, it's pretty much a 'Hi, how are you? Good, I'll give you a moment...', "What would you like? Okay, it's coming up...", "Thanks for coming, here's your bill..." kind of a conversation. There's nothing wrong with that, as the place is always packed!
A great date place. Very romantic, with the jazz pumpin up the romantic scene, with sometimes, a live pianist sitting across another couple (cuz the place is soo damn small, he/she has no choice but to play piano in your face, literally).
What a complete waste of time! I went there this evening with my partner, mother-in-law, aunt and nephew. The ambiance was dark and we were taken to tables in the back, which while it looked like there should be some shady poker games happening we were thankful for as the rest of the place was REALLY loud. Our orders were taken promptly. We ordered teas and cheesecakes, and then waited and waited waited!!! After sitting there for 30 minutes with no drinks having been brought yet my nephew went to inform them of our lengthy wait and that there weren't even any drinks yet. The table next us, which looked really settled in when we arrived left, ten minutes later a server brought stuff to their table and looked perplexed as to where the people were. Another 20 minutes passed and we still hadn't received our teas. I went to speak with the manager who promised we would have, at least our drinks in 5 minutes. It was over an hour when we decided to leave... still no drinks on the table. What a complete waste of time! They REALLY need to pull their socks up! I'll never waste my time going back there again and I suggest that you, the reader use your time more efficiently, unless you're just looking for a place to hang out.
Just got back from there and have a few complaints about the drinks, food and service.
Both of our cappucinos were cold, how does that happen?
Chocolate cheesecake had no chocolate taste. Really dissapointing.
Whipped cream tasted like nothing. Was hoping it was going to taste good because the cake didn't.
Waitress put her fingers on the inside (on the side were the water is poured out) of the full water pitcher to carry it. The pitcher had a handle to carry it!
Will not be going back there!
I've always love cheesecake so I went with my friends for our Saturday night hang out and we are all disappointed. We ordered 4 different cheesecake and none of them was good. The cheesecakes are mushy. Ready made cheesecake from superstore, safeway or save on are way better than theirs. Service is also bad. The lady who gave us the beverage just dump everything on the end and let us pass it over. She could have go around. Same with the cheesecake when it was served. It was dumped at the middle this time. I'm glad I'm not with important people otherwise this will be embarrasing. I will never go back and will never recommend it.
Only 1/4 of our groups order was correct, everything else was wrong. The funnier part is they tried convincing us that it was us that was wrong....
And the cheesecake was really mushy
Overal the ambiance was good, music was lively but the desert was sub par. Would I come back? Probably not.
Service sucks!! I have never been to a dessert place with such bad service! I finally understand why others only rate the service 2.5 stars. All the servers were rude! As for the manager(I realizes why the staffs are all so rude)cause the manager doesn't even care about customers complain. If this service doesn't change there is alot more cheesecake place is Vancouver that makes better cheesecake if a better service attitude.
Cheesecake Etc. is one of my favourite picks for dessert.
Everything about this place is simple. The cheesecakes seem like they're bought from costco or something.. but it works for me. The menu selection is minimal. The strawberry is the one is pretty good. It can be a little too sweet but it goes well with coffee. The setting is very romantic. Dark with lit candles. The service is alright. Nothing special but at the same time nothing bad.
Cheesecake was light & creamy at the same time....nice ambience..the gentleman playing the piano added a nice touch...good value for money..for a party of 3, we paid about $28 for 3 drinks & 3 cakes...location was abit hard to find..also, the place next door also belongs to them but was under a different signage...
Came here one night to try something new. My husband was convinced that we should go after reading some reviews. I ordered their standard cheesecake with strawberry syrup and a glass of warm milk with nutmeg and amaretto. My husband had the special: chocolate cheesecake with peanut butter sauce. The portions are a bit small, but everything is homemade and the milk was wonderful. The ambiance reminded me of a Paris cafe. An older gentleman started playing the piano and singing which made the whole experience a real treat. Overall, it was a great little restaurant.
I have lived in Vancouver for a brief period of time back in the late 90s, Cheesecake Etc. offered the best cheesecake back then. After seven and a half years, I had an opportunity to return to Vancouver for a short stay and had the luxury to re-visit Cheesecake Etc., it is still THE place to go for cheesecakes. It's a cosy cafe with a simple menu, and if you are lucky, the owner will play you live music at his little kepboard.
There is really something about this little cafe, its no crust plain cheesecake with strawberries topping is simple yet unforgettable. If you like the super sweet and dense cheesecake, it is so not for you. Chessecake Etc.'s cheesecake is delicate, velvety, and perfectly balanced. Simply put, it's the best.
Was looking forward to gorging on decadent cheesecakes the late night I came down to Cheesecake Etc.
Was disappointed with the blah cheesecakes I was presented with...other places do better.
If you're in the mood for a hole-in-the-wall, very cozy atmosphere, however, this is the right place to while the hours away with a friend.
I could easily compare this with "The Cheesecake Factory" and choose this cheesecake anytime. Though they don't have a lot of varieties of cheesecakes, they make it up by making their cheesecake very delicious. Cheesecakes are not as filling as other cheesecakes and has a very smooth texture. The cheese taste is subtle yet enough to tempt you to take another bite. Fot anyone who likes strawberries, try the strawberry cheesecake, the strawberries' sweetness matches perfectly with the creamy texture of the cheesecake.
The best cheesecake in town!
Owned by a married couple, Cheesecake etc. claims to serve quality jazz to the ears and desert to the stomach. The place (recently expanded) is nothing fancy, but its dim lights and furniture ignite a very cozy and comfortable atmosphere.
I used to come here once a week and all the times that I have been here, I've only seen a pianist once. Usually they don't have music on, so the "jazz" aspect of this establishment is a bit questionable to me. That's okay though, I only come for the cheesecake.
Their cheesecake ultimately comes in two flavours: original and chocolate. You get different toppings, like chocolate, strawberries, whip cream and whatever special they have that day. What makes these deserts stand out is that it has the cheesecake taste we love minus the risk of it being too sweet and its super fluffy texture. As an associate once said, "It's like taking a bite into a fluffy cloud."
Their real homemade hot chocolate is pretty awesome too.
The servers are not perky and overly kind like many places. In fact, I'm not sure if I remember one smiling...nevertheless they are polite (enough) and efficient. I kind of like how they get to the point. They know what their doing and not once have they made any mistakes.
This place will surely satisfy your cheesecake cravings, and not put a dent in your wallet - if you do it right: come after ten (so parking's free), and avoid ordering hot water (they charge you for that).
Having not been to Cheesecake Etc. for a couple years, we gave it another try. The cheesecakes seemed to have changed (not for the better) and have become smaller in size, and less flavorful. The toppings (mandarin orange and chocolate, and strawberry) seem to come from a can, or possibly be from a processed freezer package. I would be curious to know if the ownership has changed.
I really don't understand why people rant and rave about this place. The service is fine but the cheesecake????? If you ever want to make you own cheesecake that tastes like the ones that you tried at Cheesecake Etc., just hand down to your local supermarket and pick up a box of the Jello No Bake Cheesecake. The texture and taste are almost the same!
