Charm is a nice place, as you'd expect in Yaletown. Foodwise it's not quite as good though, and past the pleasant exterior and interior directions there isn't that much reason to go there.

Total bill for dinner, drinks and appys for two will get you close to $70 before tip, and the service is friendly but nonexistent. Seriously, we saw our service only like 4 times over the course of an hour, and it took forever to get our meal, despite being one of only 3 active tables in the restaurant. While she was nice enough, there's no excuse to not be able to check up on customers when you've got a grand total of 6 in the entire place.

If you're going to Charm anyway, here are the things to go for and avoid. The Charmtini is delicious ($9 each) and the Lobster Bisque and Pad Thai aren't bad. The Spring Rolls aren't that much different from rolls you'd get anywhere else, and their rice is decent. Portions are generous, so if you'd like to share a dish over two people, feel free.

We came to this restaurant because we bought a Groupon for it.

We thought the restaurant had a nice design, some Thai influences with a modern twist, I would say this is an intimate place to eat.

Service was good, the only mishap is they forgot our starters but it was rectified quickly and received a free juice as an apology. That was nice. They did look after us well.

The food was much spicier than I had anticipated so I was even more grateful for the extra juice!! The Thai Springs rolls were great, $6 I thought was expensive but certainly the size of them were bigger than we had anywhere else so it was a good price. Our favourite dish was the Pineapple Braised Short Ribs, it was really good, although that wasn't as spicy as we envisaged. We also have the salmon and linguine, on the 2nd Anniversary Menu, that was VERY spicy and almost blew my head off, but it was good too.

The bill for the starter, two mains, rice, one juice and tea came to just over $50-00. More than we would normally pay for food but it was good and we would go back there again.

Dishes were Hit or Miss but Great Martini

Tried Charm Modern Thai with some friends for DOV. Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of their Charm Tini, a lychee based concoction with fresh basil and vodka - delicious, refreshing and light.

That said, our DOV experience was both good and not-so-good. To start, the garlic prawns appie showcased huge prawns, packed full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Unforunately the salad it came with was overly salty and not very tasty. The duck sticks (essentially duck springrolls) were okay. The most disappointing course was the main - Green tea chicken which didn't work very well with the sauce it was presented in. The sauce over powered the very light hint of green tea on the chicken and tasted similar to something out of a food court rather than at a restaurant. Dessert was innovative and was the dish that saved the food rating from a 2 to a 3. Spicy chocolate cake served with apple slices and deep fried wonton wrappers balanced the heat and sweet really well. I will go back for this innovative dessert for sure.

Service at the bar was lacking but our server was solid.

May or may not be back.

Came on a non busy night of the week and tried a few dishes that were quite flavourful and delicious. It was about a year ago since we've been to Charm and I don't really remember much that was memorable about it except that the food was good, service slow and location a bit hard to find. But it's just at the very end of Yaletown towards the Roundhouse. I do, however, recall it being quite charming, cozy and quiet, but that's about it. A good place to try out especially with an ebook coupon, plus it's on open table, so bonus! =)

Dined here for the first time using a Groupon. It was a weekday night and about 1/3 full. Service was very good; although a bit of a slow start for someone to come to our table. All was forgotten after tasting the food.

We tried the prawn cakes which were nicely fried, along with a bowl of the tom yum goong soup - very tasty. We also had the spicy thai fried rice with chicken along with the beef panang curry. Everything was served piping hot and I was extremely impressed with the portion size. Usually I have had panang around the city that uses strip of beef, but this panang was like a stew with big chunks of meat that I literally could cut with my spoon. It was absolutely delicious and there was enough leftovers for one of us to have lunch the next day.

Tasty food, really good service, comfortable room. The only sad thing I can say is that I wish I would have tried this sooner. Really enjoyed it and will definitely be back!

I came here with a large group of people. Restaurant was very accommodating with changes to reservation. Food was really good, but not amazing and out of this world. Portions for the price were large. Lobster bisque was super spicy. I did notice a strong fish sauce aroma to my coconut cream scallops entree. The thai tea ice cream was tasty! Good service. Worth another visit.

A friend and I went to this restaurant last month for an early dinner. We really liked the ambiance, it was well decorated and the booths were spacious. They also have a patio. The service was attentive and prompt. The food was really delicious! We shared an appetizer platter. The prawns were huge but there were only 4 pieces but were cooked perfectly. The spring rolls, duck sticks and wontons were nice and crisp. The satays were tender and flavourful. For our main course we had the pineapple fried rice and beef matsaman. They were both bursting with flavour. The matsaman I was very impressed with. The sauce was rich, thick with just the right kick of spiciness. There is nothing I hate more than watered down curries with vegetables thrown in to make the dish look bigger. This was not the case for Charm's matsaman curry. It brought me back to an authentic home cooked Thai curry I had years ago.

With it's ambiance, attentive service and delicious food, I am definitely looking forward to going back and trying the rest of their menu.

We were happy after spending a quality meal at this restaurant. The red interior decoration inspired modern sensation, waiters paid good care for customers' comforts. Among several dishes we tired here, our favorite was the Pad Thai, I never had this good Pad Thai before; the combination of ingredients and their original sauce was superb, but most of all, this texture and quality of their rice noodle was something amazing. I tried the top Thai restaurants in the town but regarding Pad Thai, I think Charm Modern Thai makes the best so far !

Disappointed

I came here for a birthday dinner with about 12 girls. The decor was pretty average compared to the restaurants on the same Yaletown strip. I remember my friend emphasized to our group that we had to arrive on time or else our reservation would be cancelled absolutely. We all arrived promptly to realize it was not very crowded at all. I understand that restaurants do that but it was a bit of an empty threat.

The food itself tasted just okay. There's definitely better thai restaurants around Vancouver. Nothing extremely special. The portions were not very large except the pad thai's some of my friends ordered and they were just extra noodles that tasted too sweet and bland. Many entrees did not come with a side of carbs (rice or noodles) and had to be ordered separately for $3+ extra. The spicy seafood linguine I ordered were noodles that weren't even actual linguine but soppy noodles.

Service was disappointing. During dinner, my friend got a few drips on the head from an overhead leakage. It got in her hair and it was oily. It wasn't very pleasant at all. One of the waitress came over to check it out but did nothing about it except stare up at the ceiling with us. During billing, I had an discount student card that had Charm listed as one of the sponsors. Our waitress told me that she has never seen it before and there is no "button" on the till for it. She told me that she would ask her manager about it. After about 15 minutes of back and forth of verifying if the card was legit, I found out the manager she was talking to was over the phone and claimed to not have signed up for anything of the like. It seemed a bit like a poor claim as I received a $5 print out discount voucher for Charm along with my student card so how could they not be aware?

All in all, a bit disappointing. The value just wasn't there.

Thai Beef Carpaccio and Duck Confit Spring Rolls were a Hit !

After watching the canucks game we were looking for a place to grab a bite and more drinks in Yaletown. Already was at Rodneys earlier in the week so we came across Charm. Snappy and vibrant new joint across the street from Rodneys and actually located across the street from my condo.
Decent selection with lots of modern twists. Having already ate dinner and looking for a light snack to go with our Singha beers we asked our waitress for some appetizer suggestions.
She was Bang on !
Beef carpaccio was truly amazing served on a basil leaf with minced garlic and red chillis. The duck confit spring rolls another one the of waitresses suggestions was great too.
Will be back to try the rest of the menu. Two thumbs Up !

A birthday party brought me to Charm last Saturday night. There were about 25 people in the party, and 6 of us ended up sitting separate from the rest of the group. Not a problem, and it actually worked out well for the food as it is served "family style" and each dish was portioned for 6 people.

The birthday girl opted for us to try the set menu and we were all pretty happy with that choice, as it allows you to try many different dishes - in our case for only $25 each. For the appies, there were spring rolls, short ribs, veggie tempura, tom yum gai soup, and tod mun gai - and the entrées featured Thai style 3 flavoured fish (so-so) pad thai (ok) Panang Beef (awesome) and pineapple braised short ribs (ok). My favourite dish was the panang beef - I think it was the favourite amongst everyone at our table, actually. There was supposed to be vanilla bean tapioca and thai tea ice cream for dessert, but we waited about 40 minutes for that and most people left without having any. A few stragglers at the end actually got the dessert, which I tried and wasn't really keen on the ice cream - the tapioca was really good though.

I would never go back with a large group, because the servers just didn't seem capable of handling that many people. I had to ask many times for water, and a glass of wine for my dinner. I would like to go back with a smaller group (4-6 people) and try a few more dishes, like the duck sticks and the satays. I'll definitely get the panang beef again!

Love to find new places to eat and drink around town. Took my girlfriend last week to a Thai place friends told me about. Old location of another restaurant but can't recall the name. We both liked the place a lot. Cool vibe and decor - intimate and hip which is what we're into. Served tapas aps which we liked a lot. Duck sticks were awesome. Raviolli and short ribs were pretty good, too for dinner. High end but fair pricing and good service. Would go again for sure for another "date night".

Service was pretty good.

The pineapple fried rice with chicken was just superb! The pad thai is just as good as my current favorite Thai Cafe. Just delicious.

They have promos, just ask the servers. They mentioned to us what coupons were available and they offered the same promotion to us despite us having any. Very nice people.

Parking: ok, its downtown. Its going to be expensive and its going to be hard to find. Be prepared to circle a bit if you go during peak hours. The parking lot in front of the restaurant will be full and its a narrow, one way lane out of that parking lot. Careful not to scratch someone's car!

I would go back more often, but it is a little expensive for my taste. Since I can go to Thai Cafe and get the same meal for $8. I'd probably go there on a more formal occasion.

Anyways, enjoy!

Yaletown's hidden gem

We went to Charm last night and had a great experience starting with a Thai basil mojito while waiting for a table at the bar. Once we were seated we decided to try another one of their specials a Lychee martini which was a perfect concoction not too sweet.
We started with a lobster bisque and soft shell crab. Nice twist to Tom Kha style soup with generous lobster meat. Soft shell crab was more Japanese but the spicy lime soy sauce was quite refreshing. Off to the mains as we ordered the Pad Thai and Green tea organic chicken. The Pad Thai was one of the best in the city prepared as authentic as what we've had in Thailand and generous portion for only $14 with tiger prawns. Green tea organic chicken was amazingly tender with a nice balanced orange ginger sauce. We were recommended to try a Vioginer to pair up with our dinner plates and the Vioginer paired very nice with food. All food presentation was plated like a fine dining restaurant but the prices were very reasonable considering they're in Yaletown.
The staff starting from the hostess to the bartender to our waitress were all knowledgeable, helpful and...Charming. This is definitely one of our favourite places now. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other items.

I've been here a couple times now, and every time I've come, the hostess and waitresses have greeted me with the utmost respect. Drinks are reasonably priced.
The food was excellent! The pad thai is a must get.
The only concern that I have is that Charm is a rather small place. The layout seems to utilize the limited space to its advantage. The clever center piece-bar is a great place to watch the Nucks game.
I will definitely return to Charm as it never ceases to satisfy my appetite.

Solid Thai, nothing special yet

Always looking for a new take on Thai we went looking forward to something a little different, it was but maybe we ordered wrong, it was solid and good, just not that much better than any other Thai Resto. I have spent quite a bit of time in S.E. Asia, Thailand in particular and have even taken cooking classes, besides home cooking Thai alot ( at least twice a week ), I regularly eat out. We started with the crispy Prawn Won Ton's, they were full of Prawn but a little soggy on the Won Ton around the Prawn, crispy on the edge, they were very tasty and served with a sweet and sour chili dipping sauce and were quite tasty. The Satays were whole Chicken Tenderloins done up well, no raw spots, the Peanut sauce was very good. Next was a North East Thai Style Beef Salad, here is where things started to change, the preceding dishes standard fare, the beef was medium rare grilled flank steak with a traditional Thai dressing including ground roasted rice, the beef was excellent but the dressing was a tad over salty, Maybe to much fish sauce, the flavor was there but just too salty to really savor, and I love Fish sauce, I use several bottles a year. Next up were the mains. I had the Choo Chee Sablefish, it was cooked perfectly and the presentation was good, nicely plated on a bed of Red Curry sauce with some basil.as to taste, once again the fish sauce dominated the dish, I do a version of this curry myself and I know how it is supposed to taste and this was not right at all. The saltyness completely took over from the red curry and the Kaffir Lime leaf, Sablefish is very oily and quite delicate and you can over power it easily as happened here. Normally I will use rice to cut powerfull dishes and I tried with the Coconut rice, no good here either, the normally fragrant Jasmine Rice was muted by the Coconut milk and the result was a rather gelatinous product that really didn't fit well with the dish or without it. The fish was cooked pretty well, although a few bits had broke loose and were cooked too much but thrown in anyway, but the rest was very tasty. My Wife had the Green Curry Jumbo Prawns, the Prawns were grilled shell on and then put down on a bed of Green Curry. The prawns still had their shells on when they arrived and were rather hard to peel, being in the curry somewhat made them a little slippery, the flavor was spot on with this, the Prawns very tasty and the Curry flavorful and not over fish sauced. It was a little hot for my Wife but it was right up my alley. Value was only OK, I had one double Sapphire Tonic and a Chang, no dessert,( went to Hamilton Street Grill for the pudding ), and dropped 120.00 with tip, for two that is a little steep for Thai even in Vancouver.
Was there any thing that will bring me back? I don't really know, I know I should try it again but with so many other good places around for less money I don't really think so but I might just give them another shot, I may have got them on a bad night and everyone has those.

Don't write reviews much, but just went for 2nd time to this hidden gem in Yaletown. Great modern Thai food, just like it's appropriately named. Had the Pad Thai and and Short Rib Pappardalle for less than $15 per entree. Surprised there weren't more people in this great resto, but could be because of the end of the street location. Just means less of a wait for us whenever we visit!

My boyfriend and I decided to check out this cute little hidden gem in yaletown. We have tried all the well known thai places in vancouver and this by far has beaten all of them. From the service to the quality of the food I really truly felt like I was in Thailand. We had the $25 three course meal ! BEST DEAL First serving was appy of four different choices. We went with the chicken wings and beef short ribs. Also came with choice of small tum yum soup delicious the coconut was absolutely amazing. For the 2nd course we had the Charm Seafood Lover, it was filled with an assortment of seafood and cooked perfectly. We also went with the Pa Nang Beef which really took my breath away !!! It was the best dish I have ever tasted anywhere and will definitely go back for more... We even had left overs and the server kindly wrapped the rest to go for us no problems. For dessert we had the thai ice cream and mango panna cotta. Both were extremely rich in flavor and tasted perfect after having such a great meal ! At the end of our amazing meal the chef/manager Tiffany introduced herself and thanked us for dining with her. She was so cute and very professional.. I will definitely be back because of the amazing food and wonderful service I received from her and all of the staff at CHARM. Thank you.

I've only been to Charm three times now, and was always more than impressed each time. The bar is unique and the bartenders were full of personality. The ambiance itself was incomparable and one of a kind, especially in Vancouver. The service was a step above everything. For appetizers, the lobster tom kha bisque and garlic pepper tiger prawns were incredible. For our entrees, their red-curried papardelle was a hit and steamed basa fish was impeccable. Consider this a review a strong recommendation to those who enjoy great thai in a modern setting.

Went with some friends the other night. As a group, we love to try new places so we stopped in Yaletown and came across Charm. Overall very impressed with the service (attentive), food (yum!) and decor (hip). Good vibe to the place - sleek and cool. Duck sticks and carpaccio were great as appetizers. Recommend the pasta with red curry braised ribs for sure. The Pad Thai was one of the best we’ve had in town, and we eat out a lot at various places. Good martinis and house drinks. Will be back again to try out the rest of the menu. Good addition to what you normally have to choose from for traditional Thai food as it has an eclectic mix for everyone’s taste. Good addition to Yaletown for sure!
