I went to the restaurant tonight after seeing them on Urban Diner. We had a large selection of plates. The high lights were the Mussels, Arancini, Bacala and Pasta Vongole. Panzanella Salad was a little weak. Dessert a Roasted Almond Pannacotta was delicious. Service was friendly and quick. Great smile and super attitude.
The ambiance lost a point for the odd mix of music. Definitely would return and would recommend. Had a couple of different Italian beers, which was nice not just your regular Peroni. Prices were fair and the portions shareable. Great addition to the Main Street restaurant scene.
With limited free time, there is little as disappointing as a bad restaurant experience. Charlie's sadly was one of those. The bad acoustics created a level of noise that made conversation difficult. This was coupled with a virtually personality-free waitress who failed to provide any service. We waited over 30 minute for our meal. Not once did our waitress ask if we were OK or whether we would like more drinks. She even neglected to offer the dessert menu. With hindsight, this was a good thing because the meal was at best average. We had the Antipasti to start. At $16 is was shameful. A few slivers of mediocre salami, a bit of sweaty cheese and a small bowl of olives (which were rather tasty). We then shared the spaghetti vongole and the linguine bolognese. The garlic for the vongole has burned and overrode all the other tastes in the dish. The bolognese was bland and the garlic bread we ordered was, i think, old bread that had been warmed up in the microwave.
A dismal restaurant and at $80, a rip off. The plague would have been be more fun.
