Everything overcooked
By Norman of Vancouver East (66 Reviews)

They have an extensive menu, but the cook needs to learn when to take things out of the deep fryer. We had the platter - a selection of fried stuff - and all of it was so overcooked it was almost burned. The chips that came with the burgers were also really overcooked. In fact, the only thing that wasn't was the wrap. Also, they weren't that busy, but we almost had to send up a flare to get the waitperson to notice us (she was apparently chatting up the cook while he ignored the deep fryer).

Excellent home-made Veggie Burger!

With Pesto & Swiss and a plate of fries, came to 7.95. Modest for the portion and ever so satisfying!
I've gone down to the Cambie for the veggie burger with unstoppable cravings on several occasions.

So what if they jacked up the Monday jug special to 9.50?
Hola! for $20 tip included I can drink a pitcher and have a burger & fries. WICKED!

Great for cheap drunks
By Valdemar of Burnaby, BC (38 Reviews)

As advertised, The Cambie is a great place to load up on cheap beer.

Food: Who goes there for the food? :) The food isn't very good, but that's not why most people go there. It's all about the beer.

Service: It gets very busy there, so the service can get sporadic. Still, the servers do a decent job of keeping up with people.

Value: The only real redeeming quality about the place is the cheap beer. It's a good value if you want to go and get drunk, that's for sure. Lots of young people there who simply want to chat and drink beer.

Ambiance: Good and very very very bad. Lots of youngsters (and foreign exchange students) having a good time, which is the positive part.

On the other hand, the place is disgusting. The tables are old, wooden, and not in particularly good shape. The real trouble, though, is with the washrooms. The Cambie is well known to have the worst washrooms in the city. Are they ever cleaned? I would rather pee in my pants than have to go back in there. Given how much alcohol flows, they ought to pay more attention to this crucial detail.

The Cambie is also in a very sketchy part of town, though the homeless and druggies usually go to other establishments.

Overall: Only worth if you are very tight for money and want a boozy night out. Otherwise, go elsewhere.

Affordable beer

I've been there a couple of times. The food and drinks are pretty cheap on the whole, plus if you're a post-secondary student you get some good deals. In the Cambie, you pay when ordering. I don't believe they charge you for tips. On the downside, the Cambie is a very old building and is showing its age both inside and outside. At the Cambie, you are seated on a wooden park bench, which made uncomfortable. There are a couple of old, small tube TVs to watch the game, so they can benefit from getting new and more TVs. The Cambie also doubles as a hotel and even has its own store that sell Cambie branded clothing. The location of the Cambie is in a shady location downtown. A lot of sketchy people loiter in and around the place, especially at night. If you want to give the Cambie a try, do it during broad daylight. Overall, the Cambie is very affordable and provides great value, but beware of your surroundings at all times because you just might get attacked.
