A Great Place For A Date
By KeithViking of Port Coquitlam (2 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, September 3, 2010 - 9:18pm [Dine in]

It's a great place for diner food with a date. The menu is what you would expect it to be, with lots of burger and sandwhich selections, which are all quite good- we've been there a few times. If you go for breakfast or lunch, expect to wait for a table. Nomally the service is excellent- the staff are very friendly, and cute, and they remember you after a couple of visits, guessing what you will be ordering.
One time, instead of bringing around the coffee pot after the dishes were cleared, a waitress asked if I were leaving soon. Yes, they were busy, but that question never makes you feel welcome, and it was a few months before we returned.
Other than that incident, if anyone asked, I would reccomend this place to anyone. The Barney Caffe fits in perfectly into the quirky neighborhood where it resides, and is worth the visit just to see what a diner of that area looks like. Hope they never change a thing. Love the waitresses even though I am currently dating

don't understand the reviews

I have been to this restaurant.....many many times...
every time I come the servers are very friendly and helpful....yes they are casually dressed...but it is a casual environment....
You are not going to leave hungry and very reasonably priced...
When ever I am in the staff seems to be making people laugh and have a good time and they seem to know alot of the people....
shocking to read such terrible reviews....it is not a five star restaurant so keep that in mind when you come in...

Second Chance

The first time I came to Caffe Barney, I was unimpressed with the food and completely put off by the staff. That was last year, so I decided to give it a try again. My partner and I were left to find our own seats and then had to ask for menus after a lenthy wait. The ambiance was that of a bar after the night before. The waitress, who was dressed in a hoodie(with the hood on!), seemed inconvienienced that she has to wait on us. She took our orders, brought us our food a half hour later and never came back. The food was mediocre but reasonably priced. I understand that people have bad days, however it is their JOB to be hospitible. Simply put, the food wasn't good enough to put up with the service. Two strikes you're out!

Middle of the road

We stopped in for a quick lunch on a work day, just after 12 noon. I was expecting more of a business crowd, but on a Tuesday in June no one was dressed for work but us. The atmosphere was decidedly bar-like and we were left to find our seats. Only half full, I was surprised that ordering took as long as it did. The food then took ages to arrive. Once it had arrived, it was what you'd expect from any old chain restaurant, though not unpleasant. There was lip-service to trendy ingredients and the like, but ultimately, it was just average. The whole experience was average, which was somewhat disappointing since on first entering, it seems a place with geniune potential. Service wasn't unpleasant, just slow and utlitarian. And, if you're popping in for lunch on a work day, I'd recommend hitting somwhere that can get you in, have a sandwich and out in under 90 minutes. If you've got time to relax, it might be a good stop.

Change of management
By Chips of Vancouver (1 Review)

Well folks, I think that the servers you have all been complaining about are now ruining other locations. And also there is a new face at the bridge , although a long time fixture at barneys.not saying the previous manager( now at main at location) was the problem, but whit change things do often improve. I have been a loyal customer of barneys for 10 years. I have experienced first hand all the noted problems. And have seen it change for the better . So give it another shot, and remember it's not the ritz carlton or mcdonalds, it's real people unscripted with bad and good days just like we all have.
Now typing this I just realized I missed my breakfast !!!

Burgers

The burgers here are always good, consistent food with decent portions, they are very busy so if you want five star service then head elsewhere. The ambiance here is nice, and the staff are nice but very busy. They play great music and is a nice place to hang and have a drink.

I like this place but i know what to expect when i go there, it is a restaurant but i think more of a place to have a casual drink and a bite to eat for a decent price.

pleasant surprise

My daughter suggested Cafe Barney for my birthday lunch before we went to the Stanley. After reading the reviews I was a little worried about the service, but from the moment we walked in untill we left everyone was very friendly and the service was outstanding. They have a variety of interesting and delicious meals. Will definitely go back and on a sunny day, will sit out on their patio.

Cheers to the staff who even when hung over are great company and help to make this place worth the wait on a saturday or sunday morning. For consistent food that doesn't dissappoint sit, eat and be merry. To really have fun sit at the bar and try the Kamloops Brewery Beer

Aloof waiters need to go

I am still suprised that this neighborhood cafe/bar is still frequented. We have gone there off and on for decent food in a relaxed setting. The food is dependable and decent but the service is so atrocious that is not worth a visit. The waiters act as if they are doing you a favour by serving your table. They have huge attitudes and need to get a grip. We had our appetizers completely forgotten and when the server brought out our entrees, I politely asked what happened to the appetizers? He said the kitchen staff must be smoking something and acted put out when he begrudgingly asked if I still wanted them. I told him not to bother. The last time we went, like all the times before, it seems as though their "rotating beer tap" isn't rotating at all. They always have the same beer and the others on the list never seem to turn up. The servers get so frustrated when you ask for the ones they don't have. The ambiance of this place is relaxed, that is what we all go there for. But, we live in Vancouver.....and with so many great places to choose from with more than just decent food and servers who actually crack a smile I will never waste my money on this dingy place again.
