It was such a nice day today that a few girlfriends and I decided to try the Cactus Club right on English Bay.

We were told the wait for the patio would be 15-20 minutes, handed a buzzer,
and told to wait in the area. We waited 10 feet from where it was given to us for 30 minutes,
all the while the hostess kept glancing at us and away,
until she seated to 'walk in guys' who had not waited on the list.

I asked if they had a reservation, and she told me no, so I asked why we hadn't been buzzed yet.
She stuttered and said that she had been buzzing us for 5 straight minutes,
I told her it was in my hand the whole time and it hadn't buzzed,
yet she continued to argue and not accommodate us.
I even pointed to where we were sitting right next to her, and she did not acknowledge the fact.
Instead, said that we could wait for the next table,
and offered the idea that maybe our buzzer was broken.
(coincidently enough we heard her say 2 minutes earlier into her ear attachment that apparently they were 'down')

We shouldn't have, because when we did we were seated on the upper patio at a table that we had to
re-arrange ourselves to fit at. There was about 4 inches on one side to try and sit in, and on
the other side of the table the chairs couldn't even be pulled out. No help was offered from the hostess,
even when we asked what to do. Instead, the man at the table next to us had to interrupt his date and help move his table so we could move ours to sit down.

The ground was dirty, with receipts laying all under my feet.

For a nice restaurant, the first impression was terrible.

Our server was nice, however, and the food was good, along with a nice view.

I work in a nice restaurant too, I understand the service industry, and the image left for me from this location is not one I would recommend to friends.

Great location, nice view. 'Beachside' patio. New restaurant.
I live a block away and always thought how awesome this place will be once it opens and it gets sunny out.
I'm not the biggest Cactus fan, patios rock... not too huge on the overall phony vibe.

Went here a couple times and there were hour waits. Came back a few weeks later to check it out. It was a Monday lunch, patio was full so we sat upstairs. Nice view, pleasant server. Super cold cheap beers. Wasn't too hungry but ordered a shortrib sandwich. $17 or so... and was ultra boring. They made it sound good. Very disappointed in the food.

I think for Cactus the food was below average, a cool place to go if you want to have some drinks with a view or patio sessions.
Inside is pretty small, kinda strange. This location is over-hyped for sure. Definitely not worth the lineup or wait.
