The Cactus Club has over 20 locations in BC and Alberta and features an eclectic menu selection that includes steaks, rice bowls, dinner sized salads and more.
I took my 2 young boys last Sunday for lunch. I was surprised the restaurant was not even 30% full. I usually have to wait during the weekday lunch time. The hostess brought us to a large booth and had plenty of room for my 2 boys to stretch out and elbowing each other. The ambiance is very modern and it definitely made me feel more relaxed.
The food we ordered was done pretty good. I ordered the halibut soft tacos and it was tasty. The fish was not try and had plenty fillings. My older boy ordered the quesadilla with yam fries. It must have been good because he finished it before I could finish one of the two tacos I had. The yam fries were the best. He had to keep it from me by putting a fry into his mouth first and then dipping the sauce to smoother over the rest of his yam fries. I guess this is how the animals mark their territories.
My younger son had the chicken strips with regular fries. The chicken was nice and crusty on the outside and moist inside. He couldn't finish because there were 5 or 6 pieces and each piece was about 5" long.
The best part about this meal was seeing our waitress handling herself professionally. She accidentally dropped her tray of glasses and dishes while she was already at the dishwashing station. At first, she looked a little upset, but when she came around to our table, she was cheerful as if she didn't have the little accident. She was able to keep the negative feelings to herself and not pass on to her customers. However, I was not pleased to see her colleague not helping her clean up the mess. She had to drag out the broom and the mop by herself. Other servers were carrying out their own business as if they didn't even notice. I felt like talking to the manager to encourage some team spirit. With one or two more people helping, the cleanup would have been much faster.
The value was alright for a family meal, considering the quality is better than other places offering kids menu.
I end up going here quite a lot for lunch as reps find it the place to go in my neighbourhood!
The only thing I can rave about is the AHI tuna appy, it is so yummy! I order it everytime we go.
I also one time had a great NY steak with mashed potatoes, but on most occasions the steaks have just been ok. I would never, personally, pay to eat here...burgers have always been just average, salads are not bad...
Haven't been since Feenie's been on board, but we'll see...
I avoid chain restaurants but whenever I want a big salad I go to CC. Not a fan of the trampy servers but I guess that suits most of the clientele. The edamame and Sezchuan beans are yummy starters. They have 4 or 5 entree salads to choose from and the Raincoast Greens is really good. The last time I had it it was amazing. Crispy spiced pecans, delicious strawberries (usually not a fan of the all too common berries in salad) a whole avocado-sliced, egg, peppers and the perfect amount of dressing. Yummy!! Also, another reason to support them is all their fish is Oceanwise- approved by the Aquarium and sustainable. If only a sushi restaurant would do the same.
I used to go to Cactus Club... that was before I realized there were TONS of cheaper, tastier and more interesting restaurants I could go to anywhere else in Vancouver. It was also before I gave a shit about women being objectified, and unspoken but obviously prejudice hiring policies. It was also before their prices skyrocketed. It's not even like they use organic, local food which would excuse the high prices. Anyways, the food is always the same, and the clientele look like they're all day tripping from Surrey. I give this and all other Cactus Clubs a vote of TOTALLY LAME.
I have been to the two Cactus clubs on Broadway many times.
I am always impressed with the speed and quality of food. In particular the food from the test kitchen at Broadway and Ash,
What I can never understand is the totally discrepancy in the level and quality of the service between the two.
At Ash the service is either satisfactory or deplorable... WTF?!?
At the Granville location the service is consistently above average.
Cactus Club... Please help us...
So i come to this location often, the service is really good besides the hostess being snobby, the atmosphere is nice, relaxing and fun. Yesterday was a little strange, the waitress took our order we saw her once after that she was gone, without any warning, usually if they leave they tell you who your new server will be. We had no waitress in our section there was no one to serve us, after our meal we had to wait 20 mins to find someone to get our bill, and still no sign of our waitress. She was really good while she was there though. I will definatly come back to this location
I go to this Cactus Club all the time. The food is always solid and they seem to have the service side of things really dialed in. The staff are fast, efficient and very willing to please. This is one of the best casual places in town.
So me and my father had to run a few errands on Broadway and decided to try out the cactus club. We took a look at the menu and went "Kind of pricey but oh well, should be worth it" and we were wrong ... I had a virgin strawberry margarita, I couldn't finish it because it was too sour. We ordered the "kalamari" and "spaghetti w/ scallops & shrimp". I took one bite of the kalamari and didn't enjoy it. Their style and just how it tasted wasn't good at all. The spaghetti was overpriced ($19) and definitely not worth it, the sauce was just boring and thin. I could make it at home myself, if not better! The server was nice about it and took it off the bill (phew...)
Honestly, you'd have a better experience at Gigi's Pizza & Spaghetti a few blocks away from them. The spaghetti there was far superior and for on 6.95 as well as the kalamari is always satisfactory.
