A pub in the time-honoured style, The Butcher & Bullock, formerly Smiley's Public House, has been a popular hangout for the downtown business set for 20+ years. Dark brown wainscoting and aged black & white photos complement the room’s traditional furnishings and various conversation pieces. On weekdays, The Butcher & Bullock regulars crowd the comfortable room to loosen their ties, enjoy modern pub food, take in a game and just relax. The games area features a pool table, video games and a jukebox fully loaded with both new and classic tunes. The Butcher & Bullock also features 28 types of craft and domestic beer, custom cocktails and an extensive wine list.
I really like this place. I used to go to Smiley's and found it a good, consistent choice, but the change to "The Butcher and Bullock" has been an improvement even on that. The interior has been remodeled and no longer has the long tables with benches. Really good pub food: tasty with sufficient portions. Typically priced for the business district of Vancouver, though a bit less than average perhaps (so still higher than other parts of Metro Van). Have $4 special summer beers every day. The service is really very good here.
