Good burritos and salsa
By aregma of Burnaby (116 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, March 1, 2009 - 2:06am [Dine in]

Had lunch here yesterday, had their burrito with beef, salsa and chips, as well as their jalapeno poppers. Salsa tasted very fresh, and had a nice taste to it. The jalapeno poppers were pretty good, but the outside part was a little too hard for my liking. The burrito itself was well portioned and tasty.

The problem was the service, which was very nice, but it was unclear you order from the counter and have a seat. Also the service was extremely slow because there was only one person working there on a Saturday lunch. So there was one chef/waitress who was busy making food for takeout. Food came out very slowly as a result, but she was apologetic.

The restaurant itself was clean, and was a pretty decent value at around $20, but not cheaper than other Mexican places I have been to. I would probably return if I have a lot of time and in the area.

Decent Tex-Mex, but try the Columbian food
By EatsFats of Vancouver (321 Reviews)

For a "hole-in-the-wall", it's quite clean and organized and seems to attract quite a few regulars. (Don't worry, the w.c. is in good condition).

On a tip, we went here on Saturday...you'll see why ....

Normally, this place runs as a "Tex-Mex" place with your standard burrito's and taco's. We chatted with the chef / owner and found out she had just bought out the previous owners about a month ago. She is definitely clean, we noticed that she always washed her hands after handling cash or anything else non-food related.

We had some soft taco's while we waited. These were decently sized and had pretty good flavour. We liked that it wasn't that greasy, yet still flavourful.

Now the Saturday thing...it turns out the new owner is Columbian and we had a tip from another person that she serves special Columbian dishes on Saturdays only. Yes, it's true! As we munched on our tacos, she whipped up the special for the day. It was something resembling a seafood risotto or paella, but not like anything we've had before. Plus it was loaded with fresh shrimp and scallops and was DELISH! The fried plantain that it was served with was (so far) the best in town. She also whipped up some guava juice for us (from pure, frozen guava pulp I guess), which was very refreshing and tasty.
What gets served on Saturdays is unknown, she said she decides in the morning and picks up whatever ingredients are good I guess. Last weekend was a special soup, and indeed, as we were chatting, somebody actually called to try and order the special soup. (So sorry, not this weekend!)

As a Tex-Mex place, it's okay. If you're in the area and have a craving for a burrito, seems the place to go (a lot of regulars dropped in and out for takeout when we were there). If you can swing by on Saturdays, you could be in for a treat. You'll have to ask her as there is no mention of the Columbian specials on the menu or anywhere else.
Recommended destination. We'll be back to see what she makes next time!

Good Mexican food

Small menu but the basics were there. Had the Enchilidas which were filled with chicken. Very good and the condiments (sour cream, salsa) added that extra flavour. Good lunch option and a small patio for those nice summer days with a mexican beer. Will try the fish tacos next time. All food seems to be made fresh which is a plus. Will go again.

Yummy tacos!

Had lunch here. My husband had the breakfast burrito, and said it was good. I had the three taco - ground beef. Wasn't able to get three different meats though! Lots of tomatoes and iceberg lettuce but not enough cheese! Very tasty though! Tater tots were deep fried so could feel my arteries clogging up right away. Too loud music for small space. Stood there for about 4 - 5 minutes before the lady came out to take our order. She was on the internet - I guess surfing! And yes, i would come back.

Best place for a burrito and beer! I was here on Friday after walking on Kits Beach and ordered the steak burrito bomber, which comes with chips and fresh tasty salsa, and a beer. Their burritos are huge and come packed with steak, hot peppers, rice, beans, and veggies. Delicious!

Bathrooms are spotless--excellent. Service was very kind and welcoming. Despite this being a Mexican restaurant, it reminded me of Cuba, with the music and the bright colours and the friendly people, which was awesome.

Absolutely recommended.

Cheap on the fish!

Submitted Thursday, November 24, 2011 - 7:53pm [Dine in]

I live real close to this place and have been here no less than 20 times, under the new owners. I am very disapointed that they routinely cheat you on the amount of fish put into a fish bowl, burrito, etc. The owner lady, while very nice, will load up your order with lettuce and everything else, but will skimp on the fish. This is done to long time, loyal customers. They are very cheap when it comes to the main ingredient!!!I will never ever go back and they have been banned. There a rebetter Mexican places in the Kits, that actually put fish pieces i your order, so I would definitely avoid Burrito Bros.

Big Improvement - Will Be Back

I used to come here quite a bit but had a bad experience with their salad bowl and steak last time I was there (the steak was overcooked, hard, and chewy, this was not made by the lady co-owner, it was made by another cook. The co-owner is a great cook). Anyway, I decided to give them another shot – the owners are both really sweet and do try hard. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was really very busy. There was only one person (the lady co-owner) in the store managing the phone, the register, running the food, and cooking it. She did wash her hands every time she went to cook a meal and although very busy she was remarkably calm and sweet. I again ordered the salad bowl with steak and it was great. She cooked the steak perfectly and I am not sure how she managed, but got all the ingredients into the salad and had everything ready in 2 minutes for me (whilst doing everything else). I will definitely go back and look forward to spending some time on their patio this summer. Hopefully the other cook has moved on or at the very least, been taught how to grill a steak. They have Jurritos in their soda fridge – delicious Mexican sodas (try the lime).

The Taste of Fresh

Really Good Mexican take out. The salsa and guacamole couldn't be better. Excellent lean chicken burritos and quesadillas. Extremely filling and reasonably priced. Not a speck of grease in sight makes this delicious fare seem (almost) like health food.

These Burrito Brothers are Flying
By rustygull of North Vancouver (28 Reviews)
Submitted Thursday, February 9, 2006 - 10:28am [Dine in]

So far, so very good at the Burrito Brothers Taco Company. We ordered their hefty Burrito Bomber with fajita steak filling, and the Taco Trio with three varieties of filling. Both delivered. Having appreciated the art of burrito-cuisine in the southwestern United States, it is nice to see Vancouver making strides to better Mexicali fare. My only concern, if you want to call it that, is that it was a long wait for the food after ordering. Ultimately, the wait was worth it though. Cost was reasonable (both dishes, plus pop, were well under $20). We'll be back soon.

Great lunch spot

I've come here several times now and this place prepares amazing burritos. The salsa that comes with it is fantastic.

Great selection of some hot sauces and a big bomber will never leave you hungry.

They also have a variety of Mexican sodas in the fridge... glass bottles but forget the name. Goes great with any one of their menu items.

I should mix it up a little with the other things on the menu, but have so far been very impressed with Burrito Bros. to date.

What happened?
By Haro of Vancouver (9 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - 1:19pm [Dine in]

I used to live closer to Burrito Bros. and would get take out all the time, and was in the neighbourhood the other day so decided to go to an old standby. I don't know if it was an off day or what, but the food quality seemed to have gone down considerably. I ordered a chicken burrito bomber, and the chicken was extremely, extremely dry. I had to slather each bite with salsa just to be able to get it down. The taters tasted like they were cooked in really old oil, and had been sitting around for an hour or two to boot. All in all, I would not go back if this visit was representative of what this place now is.

Patio defined my summer of 2006

What can I say about Buritto Brothers that doesn't sound too gushing? Sitting inside is kinda blah I suppose, except for the great servers who we befriended early in the season. That's ok, as we called the patio our home. Drinking Margueritas & Cervesas while scarfing back the burittos that gave the brothers their names.

If there is one thing that I will miss about Vancouver this summer, it's making more memories at The Bros.

Not bad, not great
By foodlover21 of Gastown, Vancouver (1 Review)

We've certainly had much better Mexican. The strawberry marg. was almost all tequila (not that I'm complaining about that necessarily), and the food sub-par and boring.

One of us had the three tacos, soft, and found it bland, and no better than Taco Time. I had the Quesadilla and actually really liked it. Would recommend that one every time.

The guacamole is yummy - a must-have.

Bit of a boring atmosphere.

finally some fresh tasting food
By moonie of Kitsilano (5 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, August 2, 2006 - 8:00pm [Dine in]

Okay finally a place I absolutely love. We stumbled upon this place one Sunday morning while looking for somewhere to eat breakfast. Tired of the basic bacon, eggs and toast combo (which by the way the best is at the Sunshine Grill) we decided why not have some Mexican food in the morning?

Okay so the coffee is not so great...but really who cares? The service is decent...sometimes everyone seems a bit spaced out but they are friendly and the food arrives quickly.

The breakfast burrito with the chorizo is a favourite of my co-diner. I always opt for the trio of tacos...one time having the fajita steak and more recently having the fish which was fantastic. It's a very filling meal in the morning...but its so good that you'll find room to finish it.

What makes it soooo good is that everything tastes fresh....the tortillas are awesome...the salsas are so good especially the tomatillo one.....and it honestly just tastes like good wholesome fresh food for te right price. Do yourself a favour and try a taco in the morning instead of a greasy hangover breakfast :)

Back for Burrito Bros.

Burrito Bros. offers great value for money. We went with the Burrito Bombers which were large and very tasty. We downed some Mexican beer whilst waiting for our food. Being within close proximity to Kits beach, take away is a great option!

hole-in-the-wall gone bad
By coconut of New Westminster, BC (17 Reviews)
Submitted Sunday, March 2, 2008 - 3:03am [Dine in]

I always like finding those hole-in-the-walls.. you know, the places that only the locals know of, and where the food is good value. Well, I thought I had found one with this place, but was I ever disappointed.

The girl taking the order at the counter seemed friendly enough, basically just give me a recommendation, and I went with it.

The kitchen area is somewhat in the open near the corner of the place, and I have to say, I wasn't impressed with how uncleaned it looked. The "cook" came out from a back room to make my order, and between the appearance of the kitchen, and the hygiene of the cook, I was beginning to regret my decision to eat there, and was somewhat concerned about the food I was about to eat.

Anyways, I stayed and had the burrito and bean served to me. Burrito was plain... nothing to write home about, and the brown beans... it tasted "off"... enough for me to just put everything down on the plate and leave. Between that and listening to the girl who took the order sitting at the next table with a friend talking about her drunken night out the night before, I knew this was one place I would not be back to. She didn't even take the time out from giggling with her friend to ask me if my food was ok. So, the server had a hang-over, and the cook looked like she didn't have time to grab a shower and brush her hair before showing up to work. Great way to run a business!!!

If a health inspector walked into this place, I'm sure they'd be shut down. Staff was unprofessional in both their appearance and service.

Johnny is the man
By markjr of Kitsalino, Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Friday, November 20, 2009 - 7:18pm [Dine in]

Although the co owner, Johnny may seem a littler harsh at first......he has proven to be a very solid individual (aside from forgetting my call ahead order a couple of times). I would highly recommend this place to anybody who appreciates authentic mexican goodness. Martiza the other Co Owner is the talented Columbian lady behind the counter most days of the week, she runs a tight ship. Go there and order the Taco Supremo - soft shell on the outside - layer of guacamole - hardshell taco on the inside - the reinforced taco - tell your friends. Jah Cure
