Tried the Fork and Knife burger after the newspaper review. Not in the same league as the other burgers mentioned but better than Wendy's or MacD. Average beer from Whistler and Granville Island. View is wonderful on the patio. Bad service waiting 15+ minutes for our beer and 40 minutes for a burger at 3:30
in the afternoon. Uptight manager who spends too much time doing shots than working.
Food: mussels and fries were delicious and my partner liked his burger but the calamari appetizer tasted like it was from the frozen aisle at a grocery store. The mussels and fries were delicious even after reheating later in the evening.
Service: One word: pitiful. I don't mind seating myself but you still need to come and take my order and give me food! Waited at least 20-30 minutes each time for ordering, getting food, getting the bill, etc. A lunch ended up being close to 2.5 hours which shouldn't take that long at a bar. Also, if you can't pack something that is on your menu, it really shouldn't be on your menu. After waiting so long for my main dish, I needed to leave before I finished and they said they didn't have anything to pack it in - what restaurant doesn't have a container with a lid??? They ended up packing it in two boxes and a bag so it wouldn't leak.
Value: Average - perhaps a little higher for a bar but considering the location, it was not bad.
Ambiance: we sat on the patio overlooking the harbour and it was awesome. A great place to watch people passing by as well. I can't say the same for the inside as it had some kind of nautical/pirate theme but hey, it gave me a great title for this review!
Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back but wouldn't go out of my way to come here. If you've got some time to waste, I'd recommend this place for a burger and beer but beware of the bad service and long waits! Bon appetite!
This is a neighbourhood pub that looks like you could count on and go to for a favorite burger or grub. After all, its a Pirate Pub which triggers alot of memories of supposedly great food back when we were kids, but this is not the case here. Its unfortunate because the location is superb and with the right person running this place, it could be saved from going in the toilet. We ordered take out for the whole family 2 weeks ago and when we got home, we couldnt take more than 2 bites. Even our 6 year old said this is the worst burger she has ever had and it wasnt eatable. Despite spending $79.65 for 4 Burgers and the Mac and Cheese, we had no choice but to throw it all away. The meat was awful, didnt even seem like real meat. Dry like a tire and tasted like it was unfrozed from the microwave defrost 15 minutes priorf. The fries were too salty, old and dry. The buns were just too big and doughy. I emailed the restaurant because i cared enough, and all i got was "try us again, it will be better next time" type of reply. NO THANKS, there are just too many choices in Vancouver to go somewhere where they can go so wrong on a simple thing as a burger. This is not Winnipeg. Send me an invite when you deserve to take my money.
Decided to check this place out after seeing the patio packed every time we walked by on the sea wall. Apparently they just opened a few weeks ago so the menu is still limited, but what they had seemed pretty decent. (We tried the 1lb peel and eat shrimp and halibut fish and chips)
We were very happy with the food, however there was some issues getting service after we told the server we were going to move indoors when it became too cold outside. There must have been some miss communication after that, because it took a long time to finally get someone to take our order and even after that there seemed to be some delays and mix ups. The staff and manager however were very apologetic after they realized the mix up, and very kind to comp one of our meals.
All in all the food we had was very good, and we will try them again but perhaps stay at our first table to avoid confusion next time.
Popped in after walking the seawall. Charming manager sat us and told us about this new establishment and what was good on the menu and what to do for entertainment after we left. Nice views on the patio, great wheat ale on tap, and tasty mussels. Wine list seems small but the manager was working on a bigger more interesting selection. The halibut and chips are perfectly cooked. overall friendly service, decent prices, and a view worth millions.
