Brado is a pizzeria open late and located on Commercial Drive.
Late night munchies brought us here recently. I had heard of some decent praise regarding their poutine - nothing fancy but filling. It was enough for me. The rest of the menu mostly consists of the freezer to fryer variety so not much to gloss over.
Brado shares the space with a couple of other food establishments. It's certainly not a date place but the few tables in the center and at the back make the best of what's available. As with a lot of Commercial Dr. eateries, the takeout and eat while you're walking mantra is probably your best bet.
We ordered the large poutine to go, housed in the big, square syrofoam takeout container. It's packed to the brim with hot fries, loads of hot gravy and a generous heaping of curds. I am not a fan of poutine but it definitely hit the spot for my gf and I. Fries look to be frozen, but I'm not going to discount the crispy outside and relatively creamy innards. The gravy was on the salty side but I suppose if you're eating this you'll want to chase it down with a Coke.
The staff were hiding away in the kitchen at the time but nothing a quick gesture couldn't fix. Otherwise the older fellow there was incredibly friendly and we had a quick chat before leaving. I suppose food always tastes a little bit better when the people serving you are pleasant.
Truth be told the poutine here really isn't anything special but we had it nice and hot, a large portion to boot and at a reasonable price. Good enough for me.
I actually went to this location to enjoy some Middle Eastern food at the Paradise. However, my children are partial to pizza - so this location had something for each of us.
I ordered two slices of pepperoni pizza and a pop at a special price - I think it was $3.99. I ordered a second pop on the side. The bill came to five bucks and change.
My kids seemed to like the pizza. I found it kind of basic, but better than most cheap slices throughout the city.
There is very limited seating area - but if one is lucky enough to get a seat - there is ample room so that one can navigate a stroller. The music was a bit loud and out-of-place. The ambiance was sort of strip mallish. Okay for a quick bite to eat - but it ain't fine dining!! LOL.
The washrooms were not stocked with paper towels or soap - but the worker there seemed to attend to this right away when it was brought to her attention.
I would go back to this location as they serve stuff that my kids will eat and I can enjoy the more complex Middle Eastern food at the other counter. After reading the reviews - I might indulge in some of Brado's poutine and see how they measure up to La Belle Patate on Davie Street...
If you're looking for cheap pizza by the slice and don't want to go downtown, Brado's is the place for you. For $1.40 you can get a slice of any pizza with a sesame seed crust for extra crispiness! I love the pesto pizza here and the crust stays crispy to the last bite. They also sell lasagna, wings, fries, basically comfort fast food. The ambiance isn't too great, but they do have a big screen tv! I went there this past weekend, and they were advertising "Coming Soon" persian bongs!
This has to be the best poutine that I have had in Vancouver. The prices aren't bad for what they offer and every person that I've seen order the poutine has ordered the large. It goes for 8.99 for a large but the size is ridiculous. It is a take out box (the large square one) filled with fries, gravy and cheese curds. The fries were your standard fries but the gravy and cheese curds were amazing.
Normally the fries aren't crispy pretty fast but for some ready, they retained their crispiness for some time. The taste was amazing and it is incredibly filling.
They are other flavours of poutine as well but why mess with a winning recipe? There are other flavours for an additional cost like smoked meat, italian and some other varieties. I may try to smoked meat some day but for now, I am more than happy with just the large regular poutine.
Definitely my go to place for poutine!
I had a poutine a month ago it was not that bad so when I saw they are selling pizza for .99 c, I gave it a try. Well the saying “you get what you paid for” is true. Oh my goodness this was by far one of the worst pizzas I have ever had; I almost gagged. I hate wasting food but I had to throw it into garbage can.
I decided to check this place out after I saw some reviews on the poutine there.
Amazingly good poutine, and for the price, the portion is huge. I got a small, I can't imagine what a large would have been like. I'm very picky about fries in my poutine, and I loved how this was cooked, and it was the right amount for each slice, it was just enough potato and cooked just right. I'm not a huge fan of the authentic poutine part where the cheese curds are suppose to squeak, so I was happy that my cheese was all melty and gooey.
And I have to say great service, the girl who works there is top notch. She was very friendly, and helpful. Even when another customer was chatting her up, when another customer came in she politely excused herself from the conversation to help out the other person. I have to say customer service in Vancouver can be horrible, so I thought this was excellent compared to other places.
As for the place itself, it is situated on the Eastside, so it's not a five star dining place. But I think the variety of tables is great.
Excellent place, will definitely be going back again.
Damn, that's some good freakin' poutine. Some guy wrote a review here, saying it was good. he was right. Plus, they actually deliver it, along with their quite decent pizza and the other things on the menu. The owner even delivered my food! Friendly service, good prices, delivered poutine that is my fave in the city for its extra dark gravy and good'n'melty curds. Brado is a winner!
The pizza is sometimes cold depending on how long it has been sitting in the window. I really enjoy the pesto pizza and the potato vegetarian pizza. I have brought my friends here on numerous occasions and will continue to do so.
The owner speaks 7 languages and makes an effort to connect with the customer. He is from montreal and knows how to make real poutine not of that heat and eat stuff you find at fast food restuarants.
Also, now they have falafel and middle eastern food here. There is a Lebanese chef that prepares food infront of the customer. This place is two restaurants in one. I get a free poutine every time i bring in a new customer.
This unique pizza shop has everything~ from gourmet pizza to pasta dishes to poutine. Even though there are tons of great 2 for 1 pizza deals, the individual slices are cheap cheap cheap. A nice large gourmet potato pesto slice is only $1.50. The pizza crust is to die for~ they use a special sesame seed mix...very fragrant and delicious.
So don't be fooled by Brado's shoddy interior or lured by other pizza shops along the Drive. Brado is the place to go.
Very nice place to go to have good pizza. Whenever I am on Commercial Drive I have to stop by and have a piece of pizza at Brado's. The staff are friendly, and always great the customers with a smile. Very nice
Whenever our family is too lazy to cook on Friday night we get Brado Pizza. We moved up here from the states and haven't been impressed with pizza as a whole in Canada. However this place is solid. Their service is excellent and the delivery guy is super friendly. I would recommend Brado to anyone who wants a decent pizza delivered fast and friendly. They get the push for personality.
Brado is the place to go for Poutine! Forget about what you've heard, or where the CBC says Vancouver's best Poutine is, becasue Brado is the place. I spent many years in Montreal, and trust me, I know from experience. Poutine is best served out of a hole in the wall diner/take out restaurant. Brado nails the brown sauce. has squeaky cheese curds, and the french fries are just right - they soak up the gravy perfectly.
The pizza is solid as well - especially if it's fresh. Don't forget that Brado also offers the option to take home a dough ball and make your own crust. If you brush this crust with olive oil, and top it with a choice selection of toppings from Santa Barbara, this pizza is truly legendary.
