I went to Bon Bon as the reviews were good. I am not sure why they got good reviews. The cakes were not good and tasted stale. It seems like they were old. In fact one of the customer asked if the shortbread cookes were fresh. She said that they are from Christmas time which is 2 months old. I would not go back. I will stick to Bon Ton as their cakes are excellent. Parking is also hard to find in the area.
. The little cakes were delicious and the puff pastries were ok, The problem is that this place is a hit or miss in what you buy or order. The St Honore cake is nice but it looks slapped together as do all the other items sold. That's ok as long as you do not expect the Bon Ton quality . The products basically match the prices. I came here to pick up some dessert for a very casual luncheon otherwise i would have paid the higher price and gone to the Bon Ton. Would I go back ? Sure provided presenenation was not an issue. Oh, by the way, stay clear of the rock hard stale bread buns. What a disappointment .
Always buy cakes from here. Company I used to work for in downtown used to order. Don't work at that company now but they have solid cakes here so I continued to buy for bdays and all other events. There Bonbon cake, mouse and diplomat cakes are aweome. I do see some negative comments about the bakery. Thats too bad they had a bad experience. But I am very happy with them!
Bon Bon Bakery on Victoria Drive really takes the cake. Out of all the cakes I've ever had (and I've had many, we basically have cake at work every two weeks!), their cakes are always the crowd favorites. My favorite is the chocolate cake. I ordered it for a birthday one time and kept the leftovers in the fridge and forgot about it for 2 days. It was still as fresh tasting as the day I brought it home! The tiramisu is also another favorite. They don't cheap out on the brandy/liquor. Everyone especially loves this cake at work, many giggles all over after having this cake. Their specialty is their St. Honore cake which consists of whip cream, custard, cream puffs and puff pastry. Delish!! Really good prices also.
i like their treats the most. good value and selection
cakes are kind of mediocre . i have never bought them myself but some people seem to really like them; i've had them at different events.
i don't really get their appeal, even though there is very little cake i don't like, since i love cake.
the service is really friendly when you are a regular. they also make esspresso drinks
oner thing i dislike is the bread and buns. they taste like preservative or something. i don't know what it is but i've tried them a few times and its always awful. the chinese bakeries in the neighbourhood even make better 'western' breads.
Ordered a Tiramisu cake Friday afternoon and was guaranteed that it would be ready by 3PM. Also, ordered it with NO alcohol.
When we arrived to pick it up, they couldn't find my order. Looked for it everywhere. Looked in their little box, and there it was. They said because I didn't want any alcohol, it would just take a few minutes longer. This was 4PM, was suppose to be ready for pick up at 3PM. And I know the cake wasn't ready and the guy just slapped it together.
The cake still tasted yummy, but was not happy that I had to wait 15 minutes for it. No apology. Made to feel that it was my fault that the cake wasn't ready!! Found the Asian lady who boxed the cake to be "sorta" rude. Found the place to be "unclean". Don't think I will go back here again.
Sorry about the spelling. They sell these cakes - they call it their Bon Bon cake - and it's delish and very inexpensive compared to other bakeries. Check it out. It's a no fuss bakery - can't say that I love their other items but the cake is good!
Off a recommendation from a coworker, I went in hoping to order a custom Canucks jersey cake for my younger brother - a huge Canucks fan :). I specifically explained to the asian lady there that I did not want a cake with the picture printed on it, that I want a cake made to resemble a jersey. I was told they can do it if I paid more (almost double the normal cake cost), which I did. When I went to pick up the cake, I ended up having a cake with a picture printed on top! I explained to the counter lady the problem, and she just told me there was nothing she can do. I realized there's very little that can be done once the cake was ready, but I was hoping for an apology and an explanation why they said it was even possible to begin with. I asked her to get the manager to call me the next day, but was told I needed to call him since he's very busy. I tried calling , but he was not in, and I have not heard from this bakery since. I'm just very frustrated at the level of customer service. What I ended up with was a cake I paid more than double the cost for, and no one to address my concern.
The cake itself was also not very good. It might be one of the worse cakes I've had. I'm not sure if it was from the icing on the outside but the cake was soggy through the top layer! Overall, I would highly recommend getting your cakes elsewhere - better quality and save yourself the frustration!
