Bizou Bistro is a neighborhood bistro on South Granville. A perfect place for a pre-theatre meal.
I enjoyed my one dining experience here and the location is good. The service was fairly prompt. This restaurant definitely caters to the pre-theatre crowd because of its location.
I would like to go back however have not had the occasion to as I'm no longer in the area. I would recommend this restaurant.
We tried to find somewhere in the area we haven't dine before, and found 2 good reviews on here for this place, though quite old. I'm guessing a lot has changed since those reviews.
When we arrived and walked in the 1 girl that was working out front seemed surprised. "Oh, you want dinner?". She took us to a table, and then went back behind the bar. There were 4 other tables in the place, and 3 had already dined.
It was almost 15 minutes later when she returned. We almost got up to leave when she finally made it back. We order our drinks, appies, and mains. She said bread will be right out and left.
About 5 minutes later, she brought our drinks over. 15 minutes later she brought the bread. Another 20 minutes after that, we finally got our appetizer, deep fried spring rolls. 40 minutes for that? It was decent, though not very flavourful. There was only one other dish coming out of the kitchen while this time elapsed.
Then another 35 minutes later, we finally receive our entrees. Talk about slow food. My chicken was ok, stuffed with ricotta and prosciutto. My partner had the "fusili pasta with chicken". It was on penne not fusili. There was very little chicken, and a small portion, very dry. Flavour was OK.
Also, the entire time we were there, there was about 5 kids and 2 women that kept running in and out of the kitchen. Also, 1 kid sat down at the bar and put on a kids show with the volume turned up.
Obviously a family run place, and very poorly and unprofessionally run. When we commented about how long it took for service and food, she was surprised, we should have told her that we were in a hurry.
Our response is that we weren't, just not used to such slow service.
I've seen other reviews where people talk about how slow food service was, and I always figured they must just be exagerating. I can assure you I was not, as I timed the whole thing. These are factual timelines.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I booked a reservation here because there was hardly a review to be found for this establishment.
However, I was very pleasantly surprised. The service was very good from the hostess to the wait staff. We had booked a table for 2 during a Theatre night at the Stanley. As we had to be at the theatre early to pick up tickets, our hostess/server was kind enough to help us find an appropriate time for a seating and also to make sure the kitchen staff had our items out quickly. The restaurant filled up fast (almost completely with theatre goers) but they kept their promise and we got out in a timely fashion. Throughout dinner, even while the place was full, the wait staff were still very attentive.
The food menu wasn't vast but what was on there was good. We had the tomato & bocconcini salad, garlic prawns, and the mussels in white wine sauce to start and then we shared a prociutto wrapped chicken breast for the entree.
The salad didn't look like much in the presentation department, but it tasted very good. The amount of dressing was perfect and the tomato & cheese were fresh. The prawns were the best of the three...great garlic flavour and plump and fresh meat. The mussels were average.
The entree was really good. The chicken was not at all dry and the prociutto gave it a great flavour.
I'm glad we shared the entree because it allowed us to have dessert. We had a flourless chocolate cake and amaretto creme brule.
The cake was good but the creme brule was excellent! Very light and fresh tasting with a hint of sweetness & amaretto. YUMMY!! Overall the food deserved a 3.5.
Note: Most of the entree list consisted of pasta dishes....so if you are looking for pasta, this looks to be a good place.
Again, I'm surprised there wasn't more reviews on this place, but I guess it is mainly frequented by theatre goers?
