Big Johnny’s Pizza House is a pizza and pasta place in Kitsilano.
This pizza rocks! The crust isn't dry like a cracker, and it's not a fat thick crust. Instead, it's a chewy, soft and delicious thinner crust. There was plenty of cheese, the flavourful sauce and meats went together well. I had a pizza by the slice and it was huge and fresh from the oven and a steal at $2.50. I like that they offer unusual ingredients like grilled eggplant as topping choices. I can't wait to order from here again, I'm so jealous of the people living in this neighbourhood, they are spoilt with good pizza choices. (They do deliver widely though from UBC to Yaletown).
I ordered 2 for 1 pizza and it is what i got. 31$ for two large pizzas, not bad. I must admit is one of the best pizza i had, but this is just from pizza places in BC. I'm used to the NON 2 for 1 pizzas from Quebec, Italians and Greeks make it 1 inch thick packed with a ton of fresh veggies and the places you get a 2 for 1 is usually the cheap places that poor people go to.
Anyway, those pizzas were not great but pretty good. It's not super thick not super thin, not pacted not empty, but at least if was definitely not bland like the other pizza i had here. In overall it was a good experience outside the 1 hour wait for the delivery, the vegetarian pizza is pretty good.
I am not a very clean person but standing waiting for my food, almost made me leave. My hand happened to brush against a table while leafing through a newspaper and it was sticky and slimy. I glanced at the other tables and they all looked as though they had never been washed. The walls, floor and counters are filthy. The nearly dead plants in the window had spilled dirt all around them. I glanced at the windows and could barely see out of them because of the grease. I peaked into the kitchen, which is not hard to do and the ripped lino floor has crud all in the cracks. The wall behind the garbage can in the 'restaurant' area was filthy with dust, crumbs and ick. The cloth on the counter was brown when It once may have been white. Their menu board is missing almost all the prices and is scribbled out in many area's. I was tempted to go to the bathroom just to see what it must look like but I didn't.
My food was ok but nothing special and my mind just keeps wondering if an owner takes so little care of their space how much care goes into what they prepare. I hope I feel ok tomorrow.
When I took a look at this site for an idea of new places to check out I was shocked to realize that Big Johnnys was nowhere to be found!?
This is my main pizza place in Kits. AWESOME pizza!
They have the best price and the absolute best pizza, the best in Kits, no contest and maybe even the best in Vancouver.
If you havent tried Big Johnnys just swing by their location, next door to Darbys on 4th and grab a slice, damn its good!
