After months of driving by this place, we decided to drop by for a weeknight dinner. At 7:00pm, we were the only customers there, followed by another couple.
Food: bland, weird tasting sushi rolls. The spicy tuna and scallop rolls were sweet and the house roll covered over battered prawn tempura. The avacado envelope was over rype, mushy and browning. The salmon sashimi were uneventful and were not thawed properly. The quality was akin to all-you-can eat joints minus the portion size. The nigiri was barely edible, thin pathetic slices of poor quality fish over funny tasting rice.
Pricing: would have been reasonable if the food quality were better. $2.95 california roll, $5.95 for house roll, $4.95 for 5 piece sashimi. Total tab for two (no drinks) $31.00.
Service: 2 servers, one kitchen staff and one sushi chef. Being the only customers, we were immediately greeted and showed to our seats. The overly friendly server directed our attention to the "special's menu" and read line by line everything on promo. I was almost embarrassed for him for his amateurish attempt to upsell. Our tea was always filled and they even gave us avacado nigiri's on the house. Kudos for wanting to please, just need more training.
Ambience: being on busy E. Broadway Street, we felt stressed with the constant traffic causes by noisy semi trailers and buses. The decor is simple with functional tables and pastel coloured "lawn chairs". The only saving grace was the little fountain in the corner.
Overall: I hope they improve on their food quality or face closure.
This place is near my work, so I go there at least once a week for lunch. It is standard sushi food, but VERY GOOD. Its relative new and lets be honest, it is a hole in the wall. But that’s not the point. Everything is very fresh, made to order, big portions, and its CHEAP.
Their dynamite rolls are so fresh that the shrimp inside is still warm from the fryer. Unlike some places in the city, they are not stingy with the salmon in the sushi. You know you’re eating CHUNKS of salmon, not slivers of something. For under 11 bucks ($2.95 for a California roll, $3.75 for Alaska roll, $3.95 for Dynamite roll), I don’t have to eat until the next day.
Finally, the chef rocks! He was trained in Japan and thanks you every time you come in and every time you leave.
If you live or work around the area, go, you wont be disappointed.
I finally went to Big Fish and was super pleasantly surprised. The rolls are huge and so cheap it is ridiculous. I went to eat the first time with 3 adults and 2 kids, stuffed ourselves for $31.00. Check out the specials because they are cheaper than cooking for yourself - $1.95 for 6 pieces of homemade gyoza.
The owner is a sweet woman who spent a lot of time with us, she is friendly and helpful and I would recommend this place to anyone.
The food is standard Japanese - not outstanding - but I go back again and again since it is the best bang for buck out there.

I have to agree with the pervious feedback. This place is not for large party and it is seem to me that it is not a restaurant but a take out place with advance order. The food is good and standard but the service is weak. the server does not speak a lot of English but the sushi chef is very friendly (must be the owner) Hope that they could improve their service and speed on the food out come.
My husband and I have driven by this restaurant many times and finally decided to give it a try. Boy were we disappointed! We sat down on the hard chairs and were constantly disturbed by the owner's kids who were opening the door and leaving it open with no regard for anyone in the restaurant. The evenings are cold these days and it was just annoying.
We ordered the chicken teriyaki and an assortment of sushi. The sushi rice was cold and a bit hard. The rolls had very little taste and seemed to have been refrigerated for some time versus being freshly made. The nigiri sushi was a bit better as those seemed to be fresh. After our sushi came, we waited a long time for our chicken teriyaki. When it came, it did not taste anything like true teriyaki. The sauce on the chicken was thick and yellowy...more of a Chinese style sauce, but definitely not teriyaki! It has very little flavour and the chicken was very fatty as well. All in all, we spent over $20 for dinner and it just seemed like a total waste of money on poor quality food.
The servers were friendly enough, but there is very little personality in this restaurant. The tables and chairs are not very inviting and not very comfortable at all. We ate our sushi off of plastic containers...you would think they could at least let us have decent plates! All in all, it was a very overwhelming thumbs down for us. Let's just say that we will not be dining her again.
I drive by Big Fish to and from work each day and suggested to my colleagues to give this restaurant a try for lunch.
Food - After waiting for 1 hour for our order for 8 people, only the miso soup and two box lunches appeared. The waitress did not provide any explanation as to why our order took so longer except to say that the deep fryer was broken. The food in the boxes was well presented, fresh, but lacking in favour to the point of blandness. Batter too heavy in the tempura. Can't comment on the rest of our order that did not appear.
Service - Our waitress appeared to be newly hired and did not know the menu when we placed our order. No updates was provided at any time on why our order was taking so long. It appeared the restaurant was only interested in seeing us not leaving.
Ambiance - A typical small neighborhood restaurant that was newly renovated. Sun chairs and wooden benches seemed out of place for a sushi restaurant.
Overall, very disappointing first visit. Our group left after waiting over 1 hour to get back to work. McDonald's never tasted better. This restaurant is not setup to handle large groups at lunch hour. Felt sorry for the sushi chef who appeared frustrated with the kitchen staff.
