This restaurant is where the Rich Ocean Seafood used to be. Rich Ocean used to be our favorite place for dim sum.
Beijing Cuisine has done away with the $2.95 dim sum menu if you order before 12:00. The selection is very limited. They do not have har gow, egg tarts or numerous other items that we enjoy during dim sum. None of the dishes are less than $3.75 in fact many of the items are +$7.00 and the servings are very small for the price point. Not only are portions small but the food is not good. The sticky rice had a minimal amount of filling, the spring rolls were cold, greasy and heavy, the sui mai was decent but I've certainly had better and paid considerably less. spareribs, not even enough that 4 people could each have 2 spareribs each.
The servers were more interested in talking among themselves than they were in serving customers. On a Saturday when most dim sum restaurants are very busy, Beijing Cuisine only had 6 tables with customers. A few other customers found it necessary to stand up and wave their arms around to get service for the 4 or 5 staff members who were "working"
Definitely do not recommend unless you want to pay high prices for crappy food and bad service.
Unlike the previous reviewers we had not been to the former restaurant at this location so we cannot compare. However, what we did try today was very tasty. It also is mainly northern Chinese cuisine so to compare to the previous dim sum might be a bit unfair. We tried the bean and pork dumplings which were very good and good value we thought for $6.50 for 15 dumplings. Also the beef brisket and cannelloni (basically rolled noodles) in hot pot was nicely flavoured and not overyly salty as can be the case sometimes. Service was good enough although it wasn't very busy for prime lunch time. Food came out in a timely fashion. We had ample to eat and had leftovers. Overall the food was good and we felt we got good value for the money.
Rich Ocean was also my fave dim sum place. We went back to see how the transition fared...My first clue that it was not going to be good was there was only one other table occupied at lunch. When it was Rich Ocean, it was full at lunch & the place is huge!
They had just started offering dim sum again when we went as they realized how much they are hurting & decided to add it back to the menu. The person we were talking to was the owner of Rich Ocean who sold, but now works there for the new owners. He told us the food is terrible now and he tried to get them to keep the same menu but they wouldn't.
Our food is not worth mentioning. The crispy squid was like leather & so salty it was inedible. I will never come back, and I'd be surprised if it stays in business as it is...
