Overpriced food, cocky staff/owner

Went here a few days ago for lunch looking to try something new. When looking at the menu, I saw the usual pricy yaletown prices but figured that the food may be good for the price, was i wrong! Had the chicken sandwich which was terribly blan that when the waitress came over to ask if everything was ok, i told her that the sandwich was not very well seasoned in which she replied that i was the first one to ever complain about the food and walked off. The owner or manager came and basically told me the same. Paid the bill, no tip. Would not be dinning here again and DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Save your money folks and go to a decent place to eat.
Ps. I should have qued in when i first walked in and saw only 3 other people in the place

Awful Service

It was easily one of the worst restaurants I've ever been too.
I thought it looked interesting from the street, but the fact that it was mostly empty on a Friday night should have been my first clue that it wasn't that great.
The food was OK, but a little over priced for what we got. That wasn't the real problem.
The service was horrendous. There was a mix up on our bill and the total was considerably more than I was expecting to pay. I didn't tip after paying the bill because I wasn't happy with the resolution. The bartender actually told me off and told me not to come back because I didn't tip.
I will never go back and encourage others stay away. You've been warned.

i passed by on this past weekend, and a server was offering samples of sangria and pulled bbq chicken with coleslaw. I sampled the chicken and decided that I would have lunch here on the patio.

They were offering a terrific special of a half chicken or a half-order of pork ribs with a side dish for $8. I ordered the ribs with roasted potatoes (and an additional mixed green side salad).

The salad arrived first, a large generous bowl of fresh leafy greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and shredded carrots, dressed lightly with a vinagrette. It was fresh, crisp and tasty.

The pork ribs with roasted fingerling potatoes arrived shortly after. The ribs were tender and delicious with a sweet tangy sauce, and the potatoes were roasted just right.

The servers were very attentive and friendly. And the patio atmosphere was excellent (it helped that it was a sunny day)

The WORST service imaginable

We went to BB Ques this evening for a drink and food and were convinced by the nice girl outside telling passerbys about the drink and dinner specials. BIG mistake. First, it took FOREVER to get our drinks and when they did come, they were mostly wrong, It took them 3 tries to remember to bring the right beer and they didn´t bring one of the drinks until reminded. The food finally arrived and when it did, the orders were mixed up so we either had to send it back or switch things on each others plates. Trying to get another drink? Well that was again a challenge, so we finally just gave up trying and asked for the bill. The bill came and the waitress admitted that they had failed to record accurately who ordered what but she thought she would just give us the bills like that, separated (as originally requested by us) but all wrong. They indeed were completely wrong and so we asked her to just give it to us all on one bill. When we had a chance to look at the bill again, they had overcharged us on all the dinner specials and so we had to ask her to deduct that and do the bill again. When we finally tried to pay, we told the waitress what to put into the machine (actually we told the manager the amount to whom I gave the card, and then repeated the amount to our waitress just to make sure) and she still managed to enter the wrong amount. I spoke to the manager and told him that though we enjoyed the food (cause honestly the food was great) we wouldn't be returning because we feared being subjected to such incompetence again. A shame, because really the burger and the mac and cheese were pretty damned good. This place could be great if they hired people who knew what they were doing. A real shame. Seriously the worst service EVER.

Great place to hang out, wish we had one here in Toronto!

Recently while on vacation in Vancouver, we stumbled upon this restaurant while walking around in Yaletown. We never heard of this restaurant before but it looked like a nice place so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the ribs and my wife ordered the chicken sandwich. I have eaten tons of ribs in my life and these ribs were amazing. My wife usally doesn't finish her meals, but the chicken sandwhich didn't stand a chance! It was definitely one of the best places we ate while on our vacation. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend you drop in. We wish there was a place like this here in Toronto.

In my last few visits to BBQs, I found the service great and the food better. Last night we came at around 830 sat down and order a pitcher of beer which was 12 dollars. Amazing value! I had a combination of skewers and salad on the side. The salad was a goat cheese salad with, candy pecans, strawberries, mixed greens and strawberry dressing. It was amazing! The skewers were chicken and shrimp. Very tasty! When I was finished I asked the waitress for dessert. She told me that they only had Ice cream and explained to me that their full menu was not ready yet, and the new menu is coming soon. With great desserts, more items on the menu and weekend brunches. I’ll definitely be back to BBQues it was a great experience.

Finally No More Saran Wrapped Panini's

I recently had a chance to try BB Ques and I thought the food was great. I am a little confused about the previous reviews though. If these people can cook this food at home then why don't they stay home and cook. If these reviewers know anything about the food business they would understand that BBQues serves comfort food which in turn brings back memories of sitting around in your backyard or cottage cooking different foods on the backyard barbecue while drinking some beers and enjoying some good times with friends. When I first sat down the server brought a free sample of their homemade cornbread with this crazy butter on it that made it very "delish" After trying the 1/4 chicken and enjoying it so much I approached the owner and asked him why the chicken is so tasty. He proceeded to explain to me that they first marinade the chicken for at least 24 hours then place the chicken on a vertical rotisserie, after the chicken is charbroiled and he told me the last step they do is a secret but sure makes the chicken tasty. My friend had the burger and completely enjoyed, I was informed that they actually make their own burger patties there. My friend also commented on the bun which was also quite tasty, they use brioche style bun with sesame seeds. After talking with the owner for a while I learned that they make all their own sauces, marinades and dressings in house. I was quite please to learn that they will be introducing four different kinds of sliders soon and also weekend brunch which is on the secret menu right now. The last thing is the great value they offer on the price of food, they have at least six to seven specials for $10 which comes with a choice of two sides. Also they sell their own house lager pitchers for $12. They have three Big screen TV's in HD and they even have An HD big screen Tv on the patio.
This place opened two days before the Olympics and it definitely improved the quality and taste since then. I highly recommend this restaurant. I encourage people to give it a chance and try it again and experience what I did. "The Best Deal In Downtown."

Why spend at a place where you could make the food at home

We came as a large group during the olympics.
Given that it is the olympics I didn't expect the greatest service, but wasn't expecting what we got either.

First of all, service aside the food is poor for an area that is teeming with good restaurants. This place attempts to be a BBQ joint but its got none of that pedigree to back it up.

I had a pulled chicken sandwich. All it was, was chicken pulled like pork with some BBQ sauce and a piece of lettuce on a Portuguese bun. First of all, how do you manage to make Chicken DRY when it's tossed in a BBQ sauce. The Chicken wasn't warm either inside the bun. There wasn't a whole lot of chicken either, I could down the sandwich in four bites. Is a piece of lettuce all you could offer in terms of veggie in a sandwich? The fries that came with it were nothing amazing, kinda soggy. They provide a small little metal container of ketchup.

I ordered a bottle of Grolsch and they brought the sleeve. They told me that they did that because the sleeve was cheaper. The price of the bottle of grolsch was 7.75. Not cheap but expected in an area like Yaletown. The draft of Grolsch was.... $9!!! Thanks for LYING!

I was annoyed by this but wasn't deterred from drinking. I ordered a pitcher of the draft and they told me that all the Pitchers were used... How does a place run out of Pitchers. I looked across to another table and there was a pitcher there being used for WATER! HELLO!? Don't you want to be making money? Use the pitchers for beer not WATER! The pitcher wasn't cheap, $25 for one pitcher. That comes to an average of $8 a glass of beer from the pitcher.

The worse part about there service was right when I entered. I told them I was late and we were part of a large group and had seats already. They kept insisting that they were full and I wasn't allowed in. I was annoyed at this since it wouldn't make sense to keep me away from my group instead of trying to accommodate me. I told them I wanted to say Hi to my friends at least. I walked in with the hostess still mouthing to me how they were full. Right when I walked over to our table there was a seat waiting for me...

If these people don't want the guests to be here they might as well close their doors. The food is horrible. A local dive could make better food. They charge through the roof and lie to their customers. This is horrible business practice and I don't expect this place to stick around in an area teeming with better competition.

Avoid this place!

Nothing I couldn't have cooked at home myself

Poor, poor, poor. This is a joke of a BBQ joint. I visited BBQues during the Olympics, after wandering through Yaletown and fancying trying somewhere new. What a mistake - even some street meat would have been more satisfying.

The menu is very limited - just 6 mains and a choice of 4 sides. Maybe this was just for the Olympics? I won't be going back to find out though. Each main comes with one side included. I dined with two other adults and we each ordered the pulled chicken sandwich. For a start, what self respecting barbecue place does not serve pulled pork?? The sandwiches arrived - a small bun (each was burnt to varying degrees - one of my party had to send it back to be redone), a few pieces of flavourless chicken and an oddly sweet coleslaw slapped on both sides of the bun presumably to bulk it out to make up for lack of meat. Or possibly it was a sweet BBQ sauce. Whatever it was, it was utterly unauthentic of true barbecue.

As for sides, I ordered the roasted vegetables, one friend ordered the coleslaw and the other had cornbread. Coleslaw was simply more of the same as in the sandwich, the cornbread was small and uninteresting and the roasted veg was so dull, no seasoning and only lightly roasted (I ended up feeding it to my 8 month old daughter which shows how flavourless it must have been).

Drinks were expensive at $7.50 a beer, we didn't have cocktails but they started at $12, ouch!

Not a patch on other BBQ joints in Vancouver - and definitely an embarrassment compared to any BBQ joint in the US. I would never recommend this to anyone. Definitely the worst BBQ place I have eaten at, and I have visited A LOT of them throughout the world. Normally the first sight of a neon pig has me running towards the place, but this time I feel bad having to warn you to stay away.
