A small family-run Greek and Mediterranean restaurant that also does pizza and pasta.
This is the first time coming to this restaurant. I ordered a fettucini alfredo with chicken. Well the food isn't out of this world, but I can't complain about the price (This restaurant would be in comparison with Stepho's in downtown... only smaller....much smaller) but really good for lunch time and hey, why not go for a nice inexpensive dinner as well. You do get your moneys worth for sure and you won't be dissapointed.
I can only rave about the pizzas as that's all I have eaten there. Their pizzas are awesome and priced very reasonable. If your looking for a great homemade pizza...around this area, that is the best one I think and I've tried all the others. Cheers. O geez I need 50 words in order to post this review. All I can say is go and check it our for yourself.
Had the baked spaghetti and thought it was incredibly bland - really needed some seasoning. Had previously tried another dish that came with soup, and the soup was awful. Tiny cramped restaurant, kind of dingy, needs a facelift! Wish I could say something good about it but so far, nothing but disappointments. Well, it's cheap at least...
We love Bawan's. We've only done delivery with them a few times, and every time they've been consistent.
The ladies who answer the phone are always friendly and super sweet. The same gentleman who's delivered our food is always nice and polite too. Delivery is quick, usually 30 min.
We've only tried a few things on the menu, with the baked spaghetti being one of the items we always get (thanks to the reviewers here who recommended it). It's so good covered in gooey cheese and it's such a huge portion for $9. The lamb souvlaki is pretty decent too. Last time we ordered from them we decided to try something new and got the Pepper Steak dinner. I was kind of expecting a steak au poivre kinda thing, but instead, it was chunks of beef, peppers, onions and mushrooms swimming in a sweet/sour barbecue sauce. It tasted ok, but really not what I thought it was. I'm also not a mediterranean food expert, so I don't know if this is an authentic dish or just something the chef threw together. Next time I'll probably try the pizza.
Overall, a great choice for take-out/delivery.
I discovered Bawan's because its a block away from my work, and I typically eat here about once or twice a week. The food is consistently excellent, and have yet to be disappointed by their quick and friendly service.
I will usually get the Chicken Donair plate which is just awesome. The chicken is very tasty and they give you some rice, greek salad, tsaziki, and nice warm bread on the side.
Another great option is the pizza. I've been to all of the 'best' pizza places in Vancouver (Nat's, Flying Wedge, etc) but Bawan's beats them all. An excellent value with incredible taste.
I found this to be the closest Greek take-out place near my work, and for the past year and a half, I keep coming back for their chicken souvlaki lunch special (call them and ask what the lunch special is). For $5.95, you get a skewer of plump savoury chicken (or beef, or lamb), fresh greek salad with a wedge of lemon, half a roasted potato done al dente, a bed of tasty rice (looks plain, but full of flavour), whole pita (flatbread kind) and some thick, creamy tzatziki. I can never finish the whole thing, even though I want to.
The baked spaghetti is GREAT. The meat sauce is a bit spicy; just enough to give your buds a tingle but the well-blended flavours of meat, sauce, and spices make you want to scoop up more. The whole thing is topped with browned cheese that you need to mix well quickly before it hardens again. Great stuff for you cheese and pasta lovers...very filling!
Roast lamb is soft and tender and flavourful, almost fragrant (which is good, cuz I hate that 'gamey' taste lamb has). Great deal for lamb for just $10.95 with all the sides as well.
The restaurant looks a bit like a hole-in-the-wall...best to use it as take-out. They advertise delivery and catering available as well, but haven't used that yet. Have seen some regulars come in to sit down, but you might have to wait a while, especially during lunch rush. Since it seems like it's just a family doing all the work, service can be crunched (they are very nice people though). If you don't like sitting in a small restaurant, again; get the take-out.
Will try their pizza next.
I order from Bawans a few times a week. The food is amazing, especially the roasted lamb. It's a huge portion and comes with everything, Greek rice potato taziki bread and salad. Or I order the souvlaki and the pizza is really good too thick dough with lots of toppings. I usually pick it up on my way home or get it delivered. Delivery is free and usually comes in 30 - 40 minutes. I recommend this place to anyone who likes Greek food and good meat.
I grabbed a chicken donair and the tomato and vegetable soup (can't recall the Greek name as is listed on the menu), and both are very delicious. The donair looked and tasted as if it has a second meat type in there as well... Not a complaint, just an observation. It added another pleasant flavor! heh...
The server was friendly, and offered a glass of water during my brief wait for the take-out. On top of all this, the prices were very reasonable.
I am in there twice a week for lunch because I work a block away. I have the menu memorized but i always look at it anyways cuz everything is so good and i cant decide. On a cold day I especially love their baked spaghetti. It is not bland at all! I love the souvlaki cuz it is served with fresh greek salad rice and juicy roasted potatos. and as for their fasolatha soup, its amazing. I cant figure out what the second last person wrote about it being served with something, because it is only served on its own. either way. there chicken donair plate is amazing. and there ROAST LAMB is soooo good. their prices are very cheap. Usually cheap places with amazing food have bad service. This family run place is nothing but smiles. The daughter and the Mother work the front while the dad cooks. mmm cant wait to go in tmrw :D
One can do no wrong hitting up Banwan's for Greek.. however, from what I've tried of their pasta, it's bland like the other person said. The staff is always friendly and courteous.. I've been eating here for years, and will continue to give them my business. The value is decent for what you get.. The portions are big.. Thumbs up.
This small family restaurant has the best value for take out for italian and greek! The cheese pizza is fantastic with a home made crust. The pasta is excellent, everything is excellent. Huge portions and quality food they are definately underpriced. Delviery is quick, less than 30 min and always arrives hot.
