I love this place! It is tucked away, if you didn't know it was there you might walk right by but you would be missing out on the BEST falafels in town. I've tried a number of the donair/falafel shops around town and this location of Babylon has the best falafel balls around, they are always fresh and nice and crisp on the outside with a soft flavourful inside. The portions are amazing, I always get the veggie plate and it is excellent value, rice (brown is best), salad, a fantastic roasted potatoe, half a pita, two falafel balls and three dolmathes, that is a ton of food, but it is all good quality, they don't skimp on the fresh ingredients.
I've never tried the chicken shwarma or the beef kabob, but we regularly order for lunch and my co-workers love the chicken, the bossman tried the kabob and loved it. If you go at lunchtime this place is hopping, there is not a whole lot of room inside, only three tables but most of their trade is takeout. I've never had a problem with the staff, always friendly and accommodating with special requests, and salads and wraps are made to order.
I'm not sure why the previous reviewer was mentioning that the interior wasn't elegant...it's a donair shop, not a Michelin starred restaurant, what does are they expecting for $10? I love this Babylon, it's great value, the food is fantastic, and yes I really do stop here every week, sometimes twice or thrice!
My gf was hungry and we happened to go to this particular location which turns out to be the only Babylon Cafe on DH that didn't have a review yet. It's crammed in between many Korean outfits in the less traffic part of Robson.
It's a cramped space, though we saw a couple of tables occupied with families, baby and the stroller but it is by no means an elegant place to dine.
Menu board is small in which it seemed they only offered a chicken or falafel wrap (no lamb, beef?) and a few plate combinations. My gf opted for the chicken wrap. It was served up in a whole wheat pita and was pretty solid to say, though a little bland as it lacked the saltiness it needed. Little notes of the parsley sauce and onion made for a fulfilling snack but overall it tasted a little too westernized and toned down.
Service was surly to say the least but nothing too out of the ordinary but I wouldn't come in and expect a smile.
Don't mind the chicken, but where's the beef?
