Aree Thai Restaurant brings authentic thai food to the Kingsway, Vancouver East area. They combine skillful chefs from Thailand and fresh local ingredients to produce an exciting Thai experience.
3rd time at Aree today, well first 2 were dine in but today I drove 20 minutes for takeout cuz I was craving real pad thai, the kind that street vendors sell in Bangkok and I knew only one place in Vancouver has it. They finally recognized me as a regular I think, tho its only been 3 times, they gave me a complimentary tapioca with sago dessert, authentically Thai of course. I have been to almost every Thai restaurant in Vancouver and nothing comes close to the quality of Thai food that Aree cooks up. Service is always with a smile but although food can be slow as sometimes they are low in staffing and all orders are made to order, Aree will make the best Thai dish that you've grown to love. Their satays today were also outstanding, juicy tender chicken grilled to perfection! I love Thai food and I can't get enough of this place. Past few visits, I have tried their massman curry and fried rice which I can only say, its mind boggling delicious. If you crave authentic Thai food, look no further.
I just moved to the area this year, and initially I was at a loss as to where to eat. Luckily, I found Aree Thai. I recommend the Pad Thai Tamarind and the Massaman Curry! Aree makes anything vegan if you ask, and is always offering extras such as magnets and ice cream (though I can't eat it) and even spring rolls once, at no extra charge. Seriously nice lady, seriously good food. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
I really enjoyed the 3 dishes we had here, green curry, fried noodles and papaya salad. It was delicious!
The decor is okay and the place is very clean, if a little cold. However, the lighting really needs softening.
The owner is so friendly! He's sweet. If you arrive during a busy time, you may have to wait. The kitchen and dining room are minimally staffed.
Good wine selection!
About 6 or 7 people came in to pick up takeout while we were there. It was overall a good experience.
The decor is just so-so but the food... OMG! It's incredible! We went there twice now and both times had outstanding food. The service was OK. I think the lady that serve us the first time is very new and probably part of the family, helping out kinda thing. Second time, service was much better.
We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice and Pad Thai. Food was great and we would order from them again. Restaurant ambiance is not the greatest but great to order for take out. Try them out! Food was good quality and I would recommend it. We really enjoy trying different restaurants and this place did not disappoint.
We have had meals there 3 times, and every meal has gotten better. In fact, we were just there last week and the server told us that they had recenty flown over a new chef from Thailand. Having been to Thailand, we are definately picky on what we consider authetic and not interested in food that has been dummied down for caucasions. When we order spicy we want spicy. Every thing we have had at Aree has been what we ordered. The green papaya salad is so fresh and full of hot red peppers, just the spicy we ordered. Pad thai the most athentic outside of Thailand I have had in Vancouver (and yes I have been to the upscale trendy thai restaurant in Kits- good food but very expensive). They even offer two versions of Pad thai - one traditional and one with the ketchup sauce popular outside Thailand. Green Curry - amazing. Larb Gai - you have to try this dish with rice. So good. I think they are also MSG free. Downsides to this restaurant - being very new, I don't think they have the budget for heat yet, wear a sweater. Decor terrible, used to be an old sushi restaurant and they never changed it. I rarely see other customers there, it feels empty. But the food is outstanding. I leave there full and craving more.
