I wouldn't necessarily disagree with one of the prior reviews that said "Best in Vancouver". Could it be better? Absolutely, I've eaten much better Mexican food, but ...
Looks like the greasy joint has been updated, decently clean now though a comforting patina of grease to go around. You know, fits with the place, eh?
Decently varied menu, more than your typical taco & burritos that's for sure. The nachos were surprisingly good. I mean, nachos are nachos, right? Dunno, something different about these. I would order these again. I can't believe I'm saying this...
Tacos are solid, similar to some of the best in town, especially liked the lengua. We had also a stuffed chili with walnut sauce (ha! find that around town!) and very good, if a bit pricey.
Little ones gave a bit thumbs up on the chicken quesadilla which was packed with the goods.
Service is, well, I'm not complaining, looks like a family run joint with only 2 people (one in kitchen and one out front) when we were there so don't be expecting no 5-star service here.
Key thing is, yup, I would like to return and definitely recommend a trip. We ran into an acquaintance there by chance and he said he hits it up every 2 weeks or so and he said most of the time it is filled with Mexicans. Must be somewhat authentic I guess.
Looking for authentic cheap Mexican thrills?? Adelitas may look sketchy from the outside but it is one of the most highly-regarded Mexican food restaurants in Vancouver. Delicious, authentic and innovative Mexican food is a point pride of Adelitas. I always start off with their Nachos filled with toppings that are perfectly stacked together. I also like ordering their Burrito as they serve everything up in Mexican Freshness. The best part is that they open till 11pm on most nights, which is perfect for those late night cravings!
The two Mexican restaurants on this block are run by the same people, but Adelitas has gotten a badly-needed renovation. It has hardwood floors and fresh coat of paint, it's very inviting now and I prefer the ambiance. However, the other restaurant has Spanish soap operas playing all day everyday, so depends on what you like.
The food is the same though, which is the most important part. There is a lot of overlap with the other restaurant, and I'm a fan of the chicken soup and the seafood soup. I always see people ordering dishes like the the burritos combo and enchiladas, and they all look very satisfied, but it's a little rich for me so I stay away. My favorite at Adelitas are the 3 tacos for $6. I like the chicken, and I prefer the texture of the shredded beef over the bbq beef.
Service seems typical for Vancouver nowadays, they speak much better Spanish than English. As long as you don't ask for anything too complicated, really friendly and helpful. And they'll love you if you try to say a few words in Spanish.
You can also get their tomato and avocado salsas to go, they are now pre-packaged and come in these cute little glass jars.
This little restaurant consistently makes the freshest, most delicious Nachos I've ever had. They are INCREDIBLE.
Fresh tortilla chips, very generous amounts of avocado, diced tomato, cheese, refried beans and more. Clearly made with passion.
They have impressive selection of different meats available, so there's plenty of different flavour combinations to explore.
I love this places, everything so fresh, homemade, extremely taste. They have a big menu but also they do different dishes for special of the day..I just can say Incredible taste...like in vacations in Mexico.
Try it the tacos so yummy, Enchiladas ask for the one in green sauce with melted cheese and come with fresh guacamole, beans and rices....They make my days HAPPY Thanks ADELITAS!!!!
So this place used to be El Carolcolito, but they've rebranded, gotten some new signage, and painted - but it's the same people running the place (thankfully!).
Fantastic, authentic Mexican food for pennies. They give you Tupperware bottles of homemade salsas to go with your meal, which is a nice touch. And order the horchata - it's off the chain.
They have only a few tables and they're cash only, but worth the hassle. Their sister restaurant (El Caracol) literally two doors down is equally good.
This is one of my favourite restaurants. My husband and I often stop here at lunch for the tortas and tacos, which are so great that we have trouble experimenting with other food on the menu. Everything is fresh and really tasty, and the service is very friendly. I often bring friends here. The place has been recently re-decorated and looks great. My only beef is that I would enjoy more Latino music. Perhaps the biggest bonus is the prices: this place is really affordable: much cheaper.than other Mexican restaurants we've been too, and yet with better food. I would definitely recommend this place.
Stopped in today, looks clean and tidy. Ordered the "Torta el Pastor" and the horchata to drink. Service was fast and waitress very friendly. The best way to describe my lunch would be Mexican comfort food. Cheap and filling, Two tortas on the plate, the buns were fresh and lightly toasted, a good portion of el pastor without the gristle or fat you so often find, tasty! Inside the bun a fresh slice of avocado, tomato and lettuce, with a generous dollop of refried beans, but not to much. The horchata was cold and smooth with out grit or to much cinnamon. Would highly recommend this little spot to anyone wanting a quick, cheap and filling lunch or dinner,
