Pub then a Club on weekends

Went to catch a Canucks game on a Sat night and they have many big screens around the pub. Great viewing from most of the tables as some of the booths seem to be too close to TV's. Room is very nice with a mix of booths, high tables and low tables. Drink specials everynight and a few good choices of beer on tap. Had the truffle fries and they were excellent. Then had the roast beef sandwich which was just average. Some other interesting sandwiches and will try next time. Also about 6 main course choices. Prices are pretty good as they are in the low teens for the sandwiches. Brunch menu looks interesting as well. Great service. On Fridays and Sat nights, they turn the low table area into a dance floor and it transforms into a club with cover charge and line ups. Sort of like what Bimini's was like. Would return for game.

For a pub, good food and service - I'm impressed

We've been here 3 or 4 times. They have some pretty reasonable specials on each day of the week.

I've tried the appies, and I like everything with two caveats:
1) the spring rolls are SUPER good in my opinion
2) the skinny fries suck - they don't hold in heat because they are so skinny

The burgers are really nice. They are very much like homestyle - no little pressed paddies here. I've tried the desserts, and they were good. The pie crust on their berry pie is a bit over pasty.

The service has been very friendly and good. One time, our burgers arrived, and the appies never had. When we pointed this out, the server immediately apologized, ordered them for us, and didn't charge us for them at all.

Finally - some place in Vancouver that has good prices, good food, and good service. It encourages me to go out more often, and obviously more often to their establishment! (other places, take heed!)

Trivia at Academic
By James French of Vancouver (1 Review)

Went to the Academic last night with some friends, not knowing there was a trivia night. At first I thought, lame, but I have never had more fun in a pub then last night. We ended up staying way longer then we expected played trivia and did really well. The food and sevice was awesome and the prices were great. The trivia though, man those hosts were unreal!! 2 of the funniest guys I've met and every person in this pub was totally into trivia. Great time, can't wait to check out other nights here.
