Since new ownership, this tavern/bar has up-ed it's game and has attempted to distance itself from previous ownership. It now boasts a new talented-in-house-chef that has an evolved take on oft-times typical pub fare seen in many other local watering holes.
Sadly, there are locals who still see it as the bar it WAS , MANY years ago. KUDOS for never giving up on what we all know is a good thing!!!!

This owner is very rude, and the cook is the rudest person ever. No telephone manners, does not know how to speak english. The owner is never there so orders are screwed up because of lack of english on the cooks part. Very poorly run. The owner is someone you don't want to know.
I always go there and all Barista's Are awesome I'm friends with all of them now and even once one of them helped me to get a job :D this location is very good no matter what people can say about it.
I love to go there almost every day or every time i have a chance to. A few days ago i even came at 6 am because i was around the area and i had a great customer service and they were happy to see me too even though it was 6 am :) haha
I went with my girlfriend last friday. The flamingo dance was great, but the food was even better. The server was very professional with a great sense of humour. I had a few of their delicious tapas and a paella for two. It was so awesome. Will definitely go back again.

Also, the popcorn smells pretty awesome all the time and tasted wonderful the one time I got caramel popcorn.
I am tired of complaining about the KFC location at the Eaton Centre! I walked there from Jarvis St last night and placed an order for 10 pieces of chicken at about 4:09 pm. I then went to stand in line to await my order. The cashier called me over and then informed me that they did not have any chicken with white meat. She then told me that I would have to wait for 15 minutes. This is ridiculous! This is supposed to be fast food! I can go to a sit down restaurant and get my order faster than that! They do not seem to realize that the "C" in KFC stands for chicken! What kind of place that only sells chicken constantly runs out of white meat? Why do they not tell you this before you place your order and pay? Why is this the 4th time this has happened in 2 months? I told the cashier that I was not waiting for 15 minutes and to refund my Interac payment. What a waste of time! I am never going to this KFC location again! They do not care that I have spend about $200 there in the past 2 months!
I never had an apple dipped in caramel and then topped with chocolate and toffee bits that was so good. I will surely be back for more. But here is the kicker, they got me in the door by the smells of what was being cooked. I could not believe that they do make everything on site and in such a small space. Way to go - Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
Ordered from here twice, first time the pizza I ordered with no cheese due to a dairy intolerance came with parmesan all over it, the second time it came burnt beyond being edible we had to pick the toppings off and throw the rest out. There won't be a third time.
The corner of Bathurst and Bloor where George's is located is a big mess right now with construction on both of those streets. It's worth the trip though - I found very tasty food at a reasonable price. It's important to update the information on this Dine Here site - the phone number at George's has changed - it is now 416-536-8494. They are open 7 days a week. The place was very busy on Thanksgiving Day, sparing a few turkeys!
The food is wonderful. The lightly breaded fish, cabbage rolls, meatballs, pasta pesto, salad bar with amazing choices, latte or other coffee, specials -- all amazing. I've seen several people who don't ever order fish, really enjoy it here. All food is on display for you to pick a main course and sides. Ask the cost as you build your meal if you're unsure or want two mains on a plate. Introduce yourself to Edward and Vera. They are wonderful people who love to cook for us. They welcome your personal involvement. I was so happy one day, I couldn't resist hugging them. It's a welcome beginning and end to every meal now. Love them & their food. Licensed if you like a beer with lunch or early dinner. They do quick breakfast items too.
I am such a bakery/bistro snob that it's probably cost me a couple friends, but it certainly means that when I find a good place, it's GOOD.
I went to Paris (I had always wanted to go) and I had such a wonderful time there. It was a life dream of mine to experience what it was like, and I got to! Pretty much immediately after I got back, a friend of mine invited me to this bistro.
If ever there was a place in North America like paris, it's this place. Everything from the food to the CHAIRS has paris written all over it.
The staff is amazing, and the place is clean.
There was a line up of people waiting to get in before the place was even OPEN, if that tells you anything.
No worries, though! You can make your reservations online, which is probably the most convenient thing ever. I will go back here again, and again.... And again.
I go here every so often, and every time I do I have a good experience. I haven't had too much to eat here, but their waffle is amazing. They have a great list of specialty lattes and stuff, and every one of them is good.
The staff here are especially friendly, and the place is clean and tidy. The kitchen is right in the open in the centre of the restaurant, which I like. You can see what's going on.
They have really great gelato, too!
It's very rare in Toronto to come across a bakery that's so large. It's a nice change. You can sit in here for hours and not feel crowded in, or like you have to leave. It's a nice, bright, big open space that smells amazing and is filled with great treats, cakes, tarts, little pizzas.
The employees here are very, very nice. It's a busy place and they keep up very well. They smile, they're friendly and I look forward to seeing them.
There's an owner/manager? that works there. A really wonderful lady with the most PLEASANT voice. I know that sounds strange, but she really adds to the atmosphere of the place. I love sitting in there, and hearing her wandering around making sure everything is kept up with. It's become a staple place of mine, and I love it.
This would be a truly wonderful place, but there's a particular woman (who may or not be a co-owner? manager?) who is slightly grouchy, pretty much all of the time. It would shock me to see her smile. She's decent, but being smiley and friendly would go a long way.
There's a man who seems to be at the same level. Really nice guy. I'm always relieved to see him come to serve us. He's very friendly and easy to deal with.
If you go here, get the cinnamon bun. AMAZING. It's not overly sweet and sugary like Cinnabon. It tastes... I don't know... Real? It's very lightly glazed with a clear glaze (not the white stuff we're so familiar with), and delicious. Their pain au chocolat is delicious.
Beware: the french toast has raisins in it! If you're a raisin lover, you'll love it. If not, you'll be disappointed.
Unfortunately, the management at this location happen to be really friendly. Some of the employees are too. There are a few that really stand out (smile, remember your order)... And there are others that really fade into the background (put very little toppings, don't quite listen well).
Subway is a place where you have to remain in constant communication with the employee who is creating your sandwich. Sounds easy enough, but there's a lot of pressure here to go VERY quickly. They don't often listen because they're trying to go so fast. A line builds up, and they keep rushing everyone's sandwich to get to the next person, and then the next person. People that aren't even at the sandwich counter are shouting their orders over other people. Someone will shout that they want theirs toasted, and someone elses sandwich will be the one that gets in the toaster. It's just a lot of pressure. There's such a thing as TOO fast, and it makes it uncomfortable to order there.
Also, when someone's order is to go, you need to put everything in the bag FOR THEM if you're rushing them out of the way. If you're paying, other people are reaching over you and paying as well. And they just sort of put your sandwich, cookies and drink on a tray when its to go. If you put everything in a bag, the people can just grab the bag and go. If not, people are struggling to hold everything and try and move out of the way for the next person.
I wouldn't recommend this place. There's another, less busy subway down Eglinton going west. Just minutes from the food court. Go there.
Nothing makes you feel richer than you are than eating here! Although it's moderately expensive, the food is really incredible. There's a reason celebrities eat here.
I even just went in for coffee and a dessert when meeting a friend once, and they were beyond nice to us. Their service is way worth the price.
This place would be perfect for a date.
The atmosphere in this restaurant is beyond amazing. I can't really even describe the feel. Maybe a dim, steampunk New Orleans? I don't even know. But it's beautiful and really interesting.
I've only ever ordered the pizza, but I've tried some bits and pieces of friends' meals and I have to say the food is spectacular. The pizza crust is amazing and tastes slightly smoked. The ingredients taste fresh and every time I eat there, I want to go back again the next day.
Lovely place. Makes me proud of my neighbourhood.
First of all, I want to say that the problem does not seem to lie with the staff. People here can be friendly and nice; however, with that being said, there is a problem with management.
When you show up in the morning, there is sometimes nobody out front. They're in the back making the food. So, they take an order, and then run back and prepare the food themselves. This means that they aren't available to help the next person in line. The person after the next person in line will be waiting even longer.
This also means that the person touching the money is preparing your food (without gloves). Someone working a register and touching money all day should not be coming into direct contact with food. It's just not suppose to happen.
In the morning, there's an option to get a coffee (when the coffee is even made).
Poutine's really aren't hot at all. Don't expect your cheese to be melted.
They gave me a pack of BROWN mustard once more than once. The box was terribly old, and finally I realized that the mustard had actually gone bad.
This location REALLY has to step up hardcore. They need to hire more people (not just Filipino, but ALL kinds of people) and put the focus on the customer. You think hiring one person to work back and front is saving you all kinds of money? It's contaminating food and leaving the employee stressed. Hire more people to serve people well, and the money will come.
I love it here! The Saturday night DJ is always great, the service is friendly and fast and the drinks are priced well. It's small, but it's comfy and not crowded. The regulars are friendly and amusing! The food is the only weak spot, it's all vegetarian and there's no deep fryer...and at midnight after some pints I want fries! Also, most of the food has an odd curry or garam masala taste to it that overwhelms.
Don't be fooled while you read the menu and think that you have to decide. You will not be hearing "Bacon or Sausage?" For me that is a major plus as I much prefer ANDs to ORs. For me it's not just the extra meat, breakfast comes with a variety of fruits as well. True they often mess up my French toast with a raw spot, but with such large heaping plates filled with warm peaches, bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, and loads of other breakfast yums, I am always pleased with my meals. It is truly one of my favorite places to break the fast.
