Akroyd's Fish n Chips in The Beach offers a small menu of fresh, made to order fish and chips featuring hand cut fries.
Ever since the King's Table left the Beach I had lessened my intake of F&C ... Thank goodness for Ackroyd"s!!!
This place rocks !!! I ordered a gluten free Balmy with a side of onion rings ... !!! The batter perfect !!! Not too greasy and melts in your mouth just the way it should ... Same with the Onion rings just dissolved into one word ... DELICIOUS !!! I will be back for sure !!! Welcome to the Beach and keep up the great taste !!!
The woman serving me treated me like I was an idiot when I asked her to explain the differences between all the types of fish she serves (some of them are really expensive and I wondered why). She also yelled at her staff. My food was ok, but nothing special. The atmosphere was terrible though, and I don't have any reason to go back.
I had high hopes for a Fish and Chips place in The Beach, but I wouldn't recommend this place at all. The food was too expensive, dripping with grease when I got it home, and the service made me feel like I was more a hassle than a customer. Also, the place is never open! It says 3-9, but often I walk by at 4 or 5pm and no one's there! I have a lot of trouble with their use of the word "gourmet".
The service was terrible really disorganized the owner kept apologizing for every thing offered me a discount for missing items which she then forgot about. The fish had 3 times as much batter as other places and the tarter sauce tasted/looked suspiciously like mayonaise. I must admit the only good thing was the fries. Sorry but I'm not coming back
I have returned week after week enjoying the tasty eats, seeing the service improving along with the new staff and setup. It's nice that they are open for lunch now and it looks as though delivery may soon be on the menu. I certainly didn't feel like I was in the same place as I did in September so clearly it is a work in progress, but that is a good thing with many recent changes for the better. There are many ways to cut potatoes and plenty of fish, I have yet to try them all so I know I will be there and back again!
