We went for dinner on July 16/10. This was my first time there, as I drive by all the time and I have always been interested in trying it out. From the outside, it looks like a very pleasant place to eat. NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!
Firstly, we waited about 1/2hr for someone to come by to take our order. We were asked twice if we were ready to order, and both times we said yes, at which time we were told "she is coming to take your order". While reading the menu, it says in there "be patient with your order because everything here is cooked fresh, and could take 45mins to 1 hour. WELL........... the food arrived faster than it took for someone to take the order!
Secondly, I looked at my manicotti, and it looked like soup. Something that you would get from Michalenas frozen food. It wasn't fresh, it was microwaved. The outside of the manicotti was cold, and when I took my 1 and only bite, it was so hot in the middle I almost burnt my tongue. I have never put anything so disgusting in my mouth. I wouldn't even let my dog eat that!
Lastly, when I informed the waitress about the meal, she took it away pissed off. She then came back to me with sarcasm, and said that the reason the pasta is "soggy like soup" (very sarcastly I must add), is because it is fresh pasta. When I replied that my nonna's pasta isn't like that, she said FINE and walked away.
Although they didn't charge me for that meal, they didn't seem to care to please me either. They don't seem to care about customer satisfaction, yet written all over the restaurant says different.
That was my first time there and DEFINATELY MY LAST!!!
I will write reviews everywhere about this place, and never recommend it to anyone!!!!!!!
I am very unimpressed that my previous review was deleted, although I ensured that it meets this site's guidelines. My previous comments were not slanderous, off-base, rude or misleading. Furthermore, to label GJ Restaurant, as an "Asian Restaurant" is misleading, to put is politely. Although the owners are Asian, the "restaurant" is not, which begs the question were this information comes from.
This restaurant caters to the evening dancing crowd, their main day being Thursday evening, with a DJ. On Fridays and Saturdays there is hardly any attendance. The dance floor is small but decent. The crowd is mostly elderly Italian, as the music is geared to them. The Ambiance is more like an Italian social club.
This place relocated from Eglington Ave. West. (Eglington and Dufferin streets) to it's present location on Finch Ave.
There is NO Food served in this restaurant, other than the occasional Pizza made by an off-premise fast food pizza maker (Pizza Pizza), and I have no idea where DineHere gets the notion that any food is served in this place.
After you get seated you will IMMEDIATELY, and in no uncertain terms be told that you must order a drink, or else leave. (There is no cover charge). On my last visit, in the company of 6 friends from Vancouver, we ask for 2 minutes to decide what drinks to order. The answer from the owner was rather rude, so we left, only to be told at the door by this same Owner never to return, "as we wasted his time".
The menu is huge, offering virtually any sort of Vietnamese cuisine you could imagine. We were suspect given that it is, primarily, a bar and the kitchen seems to be staffed by only one person. Still, we stuck to standard items such as spring rolls, vermicelli soup and a shared beef dish. Food overall was okay. The staff is uninterested in their clientele and more interested in friends drinking at the tiny bar. Competing television sports coverage on two screens and ear splitting music in a small room made us eat quickly and leave. Not recommended for a night out.
Fasiledes Restaurant one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in Toronto is best known for its cosiness and highly-rated hospitality. Well, this is Toronto where its residents and tourists alike indulge themselves in anything "ethnic" and Fasiledes does not disappoint them. Its vegetarian dishes seem to be favored highly by Torontonians. THEY HAVE A WIDE VARIETY OF DISHES THAT INCLUDES BEFF, LAMB, POULTRY, FISH, AND VEGETARIAN THE FOOD IS AUTHENTIC VERY FRESH AND EXCELLETN QUALITY
This is an unusually nice place for a Shopping Mall, but this is not just any mall! It is Bayview Village Mall, a very 'haute' place, with a cute little French Patisserie, with very fancy cakes! I had a classic espresso and a 'Pompadour' cake, and I had a ball! For a descent price, I had a most delicious cake that was made by an artist!
I have been here many times and never been disappointed. I usually get the sashimi. Others in the party have been satisfied with the box-thing (I forget the name). Whatever you come for be prepared to wait as the place is popular with university students. Note that they do take reservations if you wish to avoid the lineup.
Go here at least once a week. Always a friendly staff and delicious food. Love their double bacons and creamy shakes. Place is always clean and if you ask, they will dance for you. Where else will do that? Washrooms are clean and they serve beer and wine. Family friendly with a kids menu and all day breakfast. A definite thumbs up and highly recommended!
Great food, best Shawarma, Kabab and Falafel in Toronto, i liked the list of certificates shown on the wall, fast service, warm environment, the Shawarma is so fresh and great value, one sandwich is enough for me as it is full of meat, their appetizers are so delicious (Tabuleh, Hummos, Baba Ghanouge, Fatouche) their new website has launched the web recently www.Armenian-Kitchen.com
So, I've been going to this place for at least 5 yrs now. The owners are just simply nice and makes me feel.. well, appreciated. The meat is prepared to perfection and the grill.... there's no words! The prices are simply unbelievable. The value for the quantity and the quality... there's no comparison. Their steak is ribeye and their toppings include fried onions?! Where do you get that nowadays?? For free?!!? I truly love this place and hope they are able to keep the prices and quality as it is!
I came here for lunch on a dark and stormy afternoon after the lunch rush. The place was about half full and I decided to sit on the patio even though it was a bit cloudy and ugly out. After being seated, I was greeted by a surly waitress who never smiled and curtly asked what I would like. I ordered a drink and a small pizza with bacon, mushrooms, green pepper and Italian sausage. The drink, a Vitamin water, came to my table 15 minutes later. I waited another 30 minutes, so 45 minutes total for my pizza to arrive. It honestly seemed like forever because I was hungry and dining by myself. They also had loud radio station music blaring on the patio which was annoying, especially when the long commercials segments came on. Finally I got my pizza and it somewhat made up for the cold service and poor ambiance. It was one of the better thin crust pizzas I have had. I think I tipped about a dollar which is probably the least I have tipped in a very long time. I won't be back.
I don't know how else to describe my experience at Gilead other than "underwhelmed". I had heard that they have a killer burger so thats what I ordered. It was okay but was lacking toppings with three tiny slices of pickle, lettuce and cheese. I also wasn't a big fan of the "sourdough english muffin"-style bun. However, I did like the homemade ketchup and horse radish cream sauce, it was very tasty. Also, subjecting your customers to loud Beatles music is cruel and unusual punishment. Not that I have anything against the Beatles, but maybe a mix would be nice. Overall, I think I need to go back and give them another try because maybe I just came on an off day.
I really enjoyed the pizza here. I ordered the prix fixe dinner which includes an appetizer, salad and a pizza. This is a great value when you consider all the food you are getting for $25. It went very well with a couple of Peronis and an espresso at the end. I was a little surprised at how burnt the pizza was but what do I know about real Neapolitan pizza, obviously not much. I would return if in the area or in Toronto.
Every time I'm in Toronto, I try to go to Easy Restaurant at least once or twice. It might be one of the coolest restaurants in the city. Its decked out in a 70s retro style with popular movie posters including Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, Duel, Eat My Dust!, Gone in 60 Seconds when guys like Peter Fonda were big movie stars. It even has the rear end of a yellow 70s mustang as part of the bar area. It really doesn't get much cooler than this place and its not just a gimmick because they serve fantastic breakfast fare with a smile. I have had a bunch of items on the menu and everything was good. They always include a bit of salad, some fruit and hashbrowns so you get a good balanced variety of food on your plate. They also have really tasty smoothies. So next time you want to have a good breakfast and some entertaining ambiance with friendly service, check out Easy.
Located in a quiet residential neighborhood (in the High Park area of Toronto), BUDDAH PIE prepares authentic, simple Neapolitan thin-crust pizzas - made from scratch using the finest ingredients. Fresh dough (Gluten-free available) is leavened naturally (never bleached or bromated) with practiced hands, and just the perfect amount of water. They don’t skimp on anything.
Their Buddha’s signature “Zen” Margherita, uses Valoroso® "Robusto" Style Pear Tomatoes (the closest we could find to the San Marzano), farm-fresh Basil, authentic imported Mozzarella di Bufala, and premium pure extra-virgin olive oil. Hot from the oven with that charred, blistered crust you love. :)
YUM!
As a chain of restaurants, I prefer this one if I want to order a la carte sushi. The other locations offer 'all-you-can-eat', but this one doesn't. I love their Spider Maki (soft-shelled crab rolls.) It's always fresh and crispy. I've never been disappointed there. They're flexible with their set menu dishes, allowing you to substitute without a cost. Service is friendly, nothing exceptional but never had a bad experience. For a la carte sushi, I find this location decently priced. They renovated a while back, the place is brighter and more vibrant. Every time I've been there, there has always been families in there, making it a nice, friendly environment. Would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a relatively quiet dinner with friendly service.
As a sushi fanatic, I'm impressed with this location. Friendly, courteous service. Great selection of all-you-can-eat choices. Nicely decorated interior. The fish is fresh (most of the time, had one mediocre experience out of the many times I've been there.) The only downfall is finding parking since it's on Queen Street. Street parking is available if you're able to dodge the horrible downtown drivers, streetcars, and cyclists. Paid parking is available down the street, short walk away. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for a good 'all-you-can-eat' sushi place at a decent price.
My wife and I go to Bamboo at least once a week, definitely one of our favourite Chinese restaurants in the city (and I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of typical chinese food but this place isn't like that). Amazing Dim Sum and our personal favourite is the Rainbow Chop (salad wraps that you make yourself). We're vegetarians and even though they don't show a tofu rainbow chop option on the menu, we just ask for it and they always make it up. Sooo good! We ate there for dinner tonight and it wasn't very busy (it never really is sadly) and we vowed to take it upon ourselves to boost the clientele. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
FASILEDES IS THE BEST ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT IN TORONTO THEY HAVE A WIDE VARIETY OF DISHES THAT INCLUDES BEFF, LAMB, POULTRY, FISH, AND VEGETARIAN THE FOOD IS AUTHENTIC VERY FRESH AND EXCELLETN QUALITY AND THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT WAS THE COFFEE CEREMONY THE WAITRESS BRINGS OUT A FRESHLY WASHED COFFEE BEANS AND THEN ROASTED THEM IN A COFFEE ROASTING PAN THEN SHE TAKES THE ROASTED COFFEE AND WALKS IT AROUND THE THE ROOM SO THE SMELL OF FRESHLY ROASTED COFFEE FILLS THE AIR.
I WOULD RECOMMEND FASILEDES TO ANYONE OUT THERE WHO LIKE TO ENJOY FRESH ETHIOPIAN FOOD AND BELIEVE ME WHEN YOU TRY IT THEN YOU KNOW THAT YOU MADE THE RIGHT DECISION BY GOING TO FASILEDES
I HAVE BEEN ALMOST TO EVERY ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT IN TORONTO AND FASILEDES IS BYFAR THE BEST OF THE BEST

Went for dinner with 8 friends and was pleasantly surprised with this new restaurant. The food was fabulous. We could not decide on one appetizer so the waiter suggested we do some appetizer platters so we could all enjoy. This was great, the grilled calamari were to die for and the mussels, amazing along with the pizza. The salads were fresh and tasty...Most tried different entrees, the quails in a blueberry demiglaze were amazing, as was the veal stew and the zuppa di pesce, but we thought that the favourite was the lamb shank! All in all it was a great experience. We got to see the lounge downstairs which was not open as it was a Tuesday night, but it looks great, can't wait to visit on the weekend!
My girlfriend and I have waited since September to write this review, as we thought we should have a little "cooling-off" period before documenting our experience. It's now Dec 17, and we still can't believe how we were treated. In the hopes that you, dear reader, will be spared the abominable service, disappointing fare & wrath of the owner, here is our review of Da Leonardo Bistro, or as we like to call it, "worst dining experience ever" (quite a feat as we both dine out 5-7 times a week in all kinds or restaurants from burrito shacks to fine dining establishments).
One Sunday afternoon in September 2009, we we shopping on StClairAve and decided to have brunch in the neighborhood. We often share a plate if we're not very hungry and always leave a great tip in lieu of spending more money. A sign out front bearing the words "ALL DAY BREAKFAST" caught our eye (see picture)...we strolled in at 2pm and asked if breakfast-y things like eggs & pancakes were still available, to which the server replied "Yes. Sit anywhere, I'll get you a couple of brunch menus".
As we perused the menu, we watched a couple at the next table being served 2 pasta dishes, which according one of the patrons was not what they ordered. Within a few seconds a Burly Man dressed in street clothes wandered onto the scene and attempted to take away their dishes. He grabbed her plate and was in a tug-of-war with her until she yanked it out of his hand. The couple both insisted that "It's OK..." and they would eat what was brought to them. We wondered what THAT was all about, and who THAT guy was.
We decided we'd share the "Blueberry Pancakes & Eggs" menu item which included "fruit and hash browns"...we ordered the eggs "poached hard"...we also ordered a single side of sausages, a tea, a coffee and 2 waters.
The server appeared shortly with a meager plate of food consisting of 2 runny eggs, 2 small sausages, 5 small cubes of potato (approx 1 cm sq), 2 tiny pieces of melon, 3 grapes and one pancake.
We decided to not say anything about the eggs which were very "wet", but did mention that there were no blueberries in the blueberry pancake. The server replied that they were out of blueberries, which lead to a brief discussion that evolved like something from a Monty Python sketch about blueberry pancakes. The Burly Man then appeared within a minute of this exchange to point out that "there's fruit already on your plate and you should be happy with that" in a angry tone, and then stormed off.
We realized that this must be the owner (although he never identified himself and was very rude). We decided we should just pay and get out of there as soon as possible. While referring to the menu for the price of our order, I noticed our menu selection was called "PancakeS & Eggs" (plural).
Figuring I would just pay while my gf finished her tea and we would quietly leave, I approached the cash register where The Burly Man was standing. I mentioned in passing that the menu advertised "pancakeS", and that we only got one. At this point he immediately became very aggressive, storming past me to our table and began removing our plate of half-eaten food, yelling at us to leave, and that I should "be ashamed of sharing a meal", inferring that i was a cheapskate making my gf share my food and as he tried to take her glass of water out of her hand when she was drinking. He also wondered aloud "What kind of people eat breakfast at 2pm?", and who did we think we were ORDERING breakfast at 2pm (hey...we are guilty of read signs & menus bearing the words "ALL DAY BREAKFAST" - see picture). He yelled at us and bullied us out of the restaurant (just short of GRABBING ME), threatening to call the police if we didn't leave. During this outburst we were completely speechless and a little scared. He was nuts.
We were chased onto the street, bewildered and rattled. To this day, we've marveled at what has to be, and will be, our worst dining experience EVER. I encourage everyone to skip this place and hit the BigSlice one block East where you'll feel less threatened and get to finish your meal.
