-brought me tea when I asked for water and hot sauce as soon as I was seated
-had to ask multiple times when i didn't get the hot sauce I asked for and water refills were slow/neglected
-not worth it
-they even charged $2 for 2 glasses of water (without any signage or cost listed on the menu)
Peeved I was charged for water but even more peeved that I don't seem to see anyone else complaining about it. Would not recommend and would not go back.
I have eaten at this restaurant on numerous occasions. We dine there especially when the buffet is open as everyone in my family has slightly different tastes in Indian food. We consider it a good value for the price we've previously been charged for the kid's buffet. 3 kids and I usually dine there for about $25 (including tip).
At this particular time, I came with 3 of my kids - age 6, 8, 9. We only ordered 2 naans between the four of us and the kids had very little portions. The butter chicken had very little meat in it and the goat curry had small pieces of meat with a lot of bones. There was no fruit this time. On the positive side, the fish pakora was very fresh tasting and the naans were soft and baked perfectly (there have been times we've been served hard and crunchy naans).
When I went to pay the bill, the waitress asked me the ages of my children. I told her and she said that she'd have to charge my 9 year old for an adult's buffet and charged my two younger children the price of the kid's buffet. Total $48!! - for 3 kids and 1 adult. WTF?
She looked at my shocked expression and asked me what was wrong. I told her that I've never been charged so much before and that I've dined there on numerous occasions. I told her that I've never had to pay adult prices for my kids and that I don't even get charged for my younger 2 because they eat so little. She argued with me and said that I must've come at lunch instead of dinner. I insisted that it wasn't so, but she wouldn't budge and I gave up arguing and paid the bill.
I left feeling stupid and TOTALLY RIPPED OFF. I wouldn't have minded an explanation of "our prices have gone up", or "this is our new kid's buffet price", but she insisted I was wrong and I could tell my her expression that she was taking advantage of me.
I can't stand dishonest people. I am NEVER going back there again.
Went to pick up takeout order only to reach home and find out that one full meal was missing. When phoned to complain got attitude from hostess and no apologies. We had to drive back to pick up the rest of the meal and after all that that food was average and cold.Never going back and would not recommend at all and instead try The Greek Village in Delta.....much better food and service..
The service at this family run business is great. The food is amazing and reasonably priced too, as it is c of higher quality. I really enjoyed their cashew pizza -- which is definitely something creative and original. It is a sweet chilli sauce based pizza, with zucchinis, onions, fresh tomatoes, green peppers, roasted red peppers and cashews. Not only does this pizza appeal to the eye but it tastes just as great. I actually just ordered from them the other day and they've come a long way over the years. They have completely renovated the place and have expanded their variety of food choices. They've started serving Indian food as well. Their chaat papadi and Daal Makhani are something you should definitely try!
I had lunch here the other day with a co-worker. It was the 3rd time eating here. The quality of the food has gone down hill, extremely poor. The fried rice was dry, the chicken in kung pao chicken tasted off. Not fresh at all. It wasn't this bad in the past. I compare this place to mall food court chinese food. The mall stuff is better. Very disappointed, i don't think i would eat here again. I thought it was supposed to be fresh fast gourmet, not even close.
The worse indian foods I ever eat...nan breads are so burning and panir palak is totally disaster...colour not green anymore but too dark and taste like so old. Costumer services not good at all...no smile at all.. even I am not indian. But I been working in indian hall and catering I know anykind and taste many kind of dishes but never taste such nasty food!!
Went here with a friend from the recommendations from other Dinehere foodies. I had the Double Bacon Cheese burger and my friend had the Tex burger. We shared a medium size fries and both had cola soda. The burger was good and the dressing you are able to order for your burger is great. I had grilled onions, japenos, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup and bar-b-q sauce. The burger itself was good , hot and fresh. It came out in a brown paper bag with the order sheet attached to it. The medium fries was huge. My friend and I ate some and I brought the rest home where I was able to feed the kids and then some. The price for my burger was $9.49 and I found the value was much better than places like Red Robin. The ambiance is nothing special but it fulfill its needs. If I ever have the craving and the appetite I might try the Burger challenge which is a 2lb burger with fries that has to be eaten within 30 mins. One day.
Went here with the family the other night. Have not venture to this restauant since 2009 and was curious to try it again. Was not sure what to order and spoke to the owner of the restaurant. He was very helpful and very accommadating. He suggested the chicken chow mein for the kids and the adults had the popular fried spicey fish, spicy beef and sweet and sour chicken. The noodle dish was ok as there was shredded chicken not chunks of chicken and lots of vegetables, so the value was not really there for the price. The sweet and sour chicken was pretty good. But the spicy fried fish and the spicy beef was excellent. The owner offered us half portions on the dishes so that we were able to try a bit of everything rather than committing to a larger portion that we might not like. The owner and the staff was very friendly and refilled our tea when needed. They seem to be very appreciative that we gave them a chance to dine there. One thing I would like to mention is that the restaurant can be very busy with take outs and dine in, we fortunately arrived just before the dinner rush. Was very impressed and would dine again in the near future. The prices are a little higher than most chinese restaurants, but overall the dining experience was delightful.
Went here for some take out and order the lamb curry, butter chicken, mali kofta &4 vegetable somasa. The food was hot, plentiful and tasty. Not the best indian food that I ever had but was comparable and had great value compare to going to a restaurant. The quantity was at least 30% more thatn any restaurant and the taste was very good. The lamb curry and the mai kofta was a bit spicey and all the sauces were very creamy just the way I like it. It only took 20 mins for them to prepare my order. They have a large selection and great lunch specials if youare so ever incline. Overall I was impressed about the value and the taste from this establishment. I would recommend and return in the near future.
Great big juicy burgers with great selection of toppings!! I really like the Five Guys burger a lot too but it is like comparing apples to oranges. Been back twice in 3 days!! Even their chicken burger is big and tasty (hate a bite of my wife's burger) This is my 13 yr old son's favorite burger now.
My family went to Afghan Chopan a few times. When the restaurant started out we all got good helpings of food and the last two times we were disappointed with the quantity of food. So, they lost our business and we used to come from Pitt Meadows, not exactly just down the road. A little hard to find as it is in an industrial setting. Food is delicious but nobody wants to go home stuffed but they do not want to go home hungry either after dropping $40+ for supper out.
A bunch of us went to the Keg to celebrate a friends B-Day. We called to make reservations but they said they dont take reservations after 5. This was the 152 nd surrey location. They told us if you get there around 5 you'll probbably get a seat. When we showed up at 5 , it was like a 4 hr wait for a table. Ok, it was busy because of this dine out vancouver thing that was going on. So they called the Scott rd location for us and we managed to get in there.
At the scott rd location we had to wait about an hour for table. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks and some appies to kill time. Calamari was goid, but a bit small portion.
When we got yo our table. We ordered food and the waitress seemed quite nice. As the evening progressed the service seemed to decline. The quality if service from our service provider was nil. Shouldnt we all be given water especially if we ask for it? The waitress seemed bothered about getting water for all of us. 6 adults at our table. When our steaks arrived 4 of 6 steaks were cold. They did take those off the bill in the end. My steak was ok. I ordered a sirloin oscar (a Keg favorite of mine) it was hot and tastey but lacking in bernaise sauce. My wife had pepper gravy steak, it was lacking in pepper.
The bar tender needs to learn hiw to make a good paralyzer.
Although my steak was good, speaking on behalf of my friends and the birthday girl It was nit a good night food-wise. Overall i hada great night because i was with friends, but the food portion was a total let-down. $40 for a steak? I expect top notch service at the Keg. I get better service at a fast food drive through.
I wonder if its just this Surrey location that is bad. Ive never experienced this at other locations, Vancouver, Burnaby.
I understand it was a busy night for them with the dine out Vancouver thing happening. In my book thats no excuse.
Im going to do alot more of making steak at home rather than go out to the Keg.
Went here with a friend for a quick lunch. They had recently moved a few stores over in the strip mall and the layout is updated and clean. We both ordered the Honey Bacon Chicken, his sandwich had the onions and tomatoes left out while mine had what was intended.. It tasted delicious like it usually does. The lady will ask if you want the hot pepper as I believe a lot of customers do not eat it and it goes to waste. I used a coupon that I received in the mail where you buy a foot long and two fountain drinks you get the other foot long for free. The value is great as long as you have the coupon, but if not it can be a bit pricey. Overall I was satisfied with this franchise restaurant.
Went here with the family and another couple for dinner. We all ordered the dinner preselected meals and I ordered the deluxe dinner meal on the first page of the menu. I believe that this is for the customer who do not know what Indian food really taste so that they have the tried and true dishes to play it safe. Dishes like butter chicken, some dish with chick peas, tandoori chicken and the deluxe dinner had lamb curry plus both dishes included naans. The food came out nice and hot. The taste was very good and the portion was a bit smaller than if you ordered it by itself. Pretty good value if you want to dab into Indian cuisine. It might not look like a lot of food when they place it on the table, but the richness of the dishes will fill you up in no time. The ambiance was quite nice. Modern and clean. Parking can be a little tight, just make sure you park in the middle parking spot as there is not much room for mistakes. Will return in the future as we left with a positive experience.
Went here to pick-up some take out sushi as I was craving it and hope that the place changed back to the way it original was. The dinner special went up in price by $.50 not a big deal but where it got me was how the owner (older Asian lady) would nickel and dime you for things that should be included. When you order the dinner special at the restaurant, you get miso soup, dynamite rolls, salmon sushi/sashimi, ebi sumono, assorted tempura. But when you order take it, you get short changed. First they charge extra for miso soup ($1.25) which should be included as it is when you dine in. Then they gave only two packets of soy sauce, which I found out once I opened it at home. There should at least been 4. They have a sign of $.10/packet for soy sauce on the cash register. Thank goodness the food tasted good, as that would have been the last straw. It is unfortunate that they try to squeeze every penny out of the customer. What nexts, $.50 for wasabi? or picked ginger? There are a lot of sushi restaurant in Surrey and it will be awhile before I return back
I attended Super Bowl this year at Sawbucks Pub with my sons and a bunch of their friends. The atmosphere was electric. We arrived a couple hours early and managed to get the table right in front of one of the big screens. I had a great time. The food looked good all around and my nachos were great. I look forward to attending again next year.
We went to Gulberg Restaurant in Fleetwood Surrey B.C on Monday ( Family day) with my husband and kids.
We’ve ordered the butter chicken, a char chicken, lamb curry , appy platter & naan.
The butter chicken was sour old and dry with smell raw pieces of chicken .
The achar chicken was ( unexplainable ) never eaten achar chicken like this before .
The lamb curry we’ve ordered was not lamb but goat with few pieces of bone and fat no meat what so ever.
The appy platter was served fresh with wrinkled cucumber and lettuce on the side which was left over from their buffet over the weekend as all the rest of the food .
Every thing was tasteless except the naan and the appetizer, and when we came home we got an upset stomach and we spend most of our time in the bathroom.
Their food ruined our family day i will never ever go tho gulberg restaurant and will not recommend it to any one , since they serve all the left over food from their buffet .
I called the manager named of the restaurant named ( maan ) and complained and his replay was that the achar chicken wasn’t left over from their buffet !!!!! that means every thing else is .....
Their food worth a penny.
Went here with the family to try something different and use up an Entertainment coupon. We order some dishes that came out hot and tasty. The server gave us some free soup to try out. The ambiance is decent but nothing to write home about. The value was good for what you pay for. The serveice was attentive and polite when we were there. I read the reviews from others and we had no issues with the service. When we came to pay, we had an Entertainment coupon, stating buy one entree and get the second for free. Well apparently they were screwed over by the Entertainment book as a lot of customers use the coupon and they were losing money. The server said that the books were being sold for less than the entree and customers were buying several books and using them. The server did not honor the free entree but gave us $5 off the bill. I was a little perturd by this as they should have something on their window to advise customers that they will not honor Entertainment coupons. Other than that, I would return for a future visit.
Ate at the Kalmar on a number of occasions. The food is excellent with plentiful portions, very good value and the staff were helpful and efficient. I took my parents to their Sunday Brunch and we all loved it. Then they proved themselves again by hosting my company's annual meeting that proved successful and cost effective when I compare the amount spent the previous year.
I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good meal or good value.
Thank You Kalmar!
Came here last Tuesday for a friends surprise birthday. I came here once with my family back in 1994, and have since wanted to come back, so was happy that my friends wife decided to throw the surprise party here.
Anyhow, portions were HUGE, and the price was really decent. I ordered a large ceasar salad for starters, and for dinner I had Fettucini Alfredo with chicken, and a Pepsi to drink. When my Ceasar salad came out, people thought that that was my meal....sure it costed almost $9, but it was MASSIVE, and good.
The Chicken Fettucini costed almost $16, but that was a very generous portion as well. Tasted very good. I have to admit, that I was not too impressed with the chicken though. Thought it would had been grilled like the souvlaki, but asides from that my pasta was really good, plus I couldn't finish it, which meant lunch for the next day. I also noticed that everyone who ordered pasta had good sizes and agreed that it tasted good.
This place is really good on food and portions. Not as big as Anton's I had to admit, but a super steal deal anyways.
Do yourselves a favour and try this place.
